View Full Version : The Playoffs

I know not too many people here are in to American football. But, after this week I'm just too giddy to talk to myself about it all day. So, who do you all think are going to the big dance?
We over here have this pipe dream of the Ravens and Jets facing off in the AFC Championship so there can be one more game hosted at Giants Stadium before it's bulldozed. At the last game there I got a little teary-eyed. This has been our 11th season going to games and to see the place demolished is like seeing a little bit of my childhood going down with it.
Still, the Jets ride here has been based mostly on luck. First, the four teams they need to lose in week 16 all lose and the Colts pull Manning in the second half. Then the Bengals have nothing to play for and pull their starters. So maybe I'm a little jaded and we're due to go down in flames against San Diego in a week. But, a man can dream. No 5th and 6th seeds have ever faced each other in the championship game since the seeding system began.
I also wish our coach would keep his mouth shut every once in a while, confidence-building or not.
As for the others, did you see the Cardinals game today? At first I was rooting for the Cards because of their loss last year, but then I kinda wanted to see the biggest comeback in postseason history. The ending sucked. I think the Vikings are going to fizzle (also, as Jets fans it's our solemn duty to root against Favre :p ) and my picks for the Bowl are Colts-Cowboys.
Though my dream scenario would be Cowboys-Jets.

I wanted to see Green Bay win against Arizona solely because I am a Vikings fan and wanted us to crush them personally. Of course, I also agree that Vikings will never win the Super Bowl, though I do believe that they will make it there. Also on the AFC side, I think that San Diego will go all the way.

The Boys are back in town. It's been a long time coming, but I think they have a chance. If they win their game next week(Vikings), there is no doubt in my mind theyll make it.
God, I hope so, since they've been abysmal the last few years. Maybe if they reach it, Jerry Jones wont screw the team over trying to buy/trade players for his superbowl team in 2011(Dallas hosts, so of course he wants his team in it next year in his new Stadium). They finally are starting to play like a team(Dallas' big problem is that while their individual stats are some of the best in the league, they dont always play well together) and I hope he doesnt ruin it.

I feel like an explorer that has happened upon a strange and fascinating new world, a jungle of wonder and subtle homoeroticism. Yet there is something wrong, an apprehension of horror. I feel watched, and as I turn around, I realise the jungle around me is made from
...
Something horrible, perhaps. Something pertaining to gore and beer.

As my team is long since out of the playoffs, my one, sincere hope for the playoffs is that the Cowboy lose. Might be nice if the Cardinals take it, as they are a quasi-local team.

I... I really don't see the Cowboys winning the entire thing. It's not that I don't have confidence in Romo (who cost them twice before) but they've always been a team of whiners. If it isn't TO then it's Roy Williams actin a fool. I would love to see the Cardinals go at it for a second round. Hell, I'd like Brees and the Saints to come up and show their best stuff like they did in the beginning.
Far as I see it, the Colts are still dominant. They lose it's a crapshoot of who will be the best.

Seeing as I live in San Diego, I'll obviously be rooting for the Chargers, since Miami didn't make it in.
Anyway, yeah, the ending did suck about the Cards and Packers...otherwise...excellent game. I was literally jumping up during that one missed field goal in the fourth quarter. That game deserved a better ending.
And I noticed...2 punts that ENTIRE game.

Being the Cowboys fan that I am, I am glad the monkey is off of our backs. No one can deny that the Cowboys are playing lights-out football right now. The Eagles were a couple bad bounces away from being shut out again. The Cowboys are a completely focused, balanced and consistent team right now; something I'm not seeing out of any other team.
Honestly though, the Vikings give me a bit of a scare. They've managed to re-light their fire recently, and I'm hoping the week off gave that fire time to cool back down. I don't see the Saints beating the Cardinals unless they took the extra week to track down their mojo. I would love an NFC Championship in Dallas.

My Giants sucked this season, so yeah, no football for me until the super bowl.

...I'm a Patriots fan.
Ugh. This season. Aaack.
Mind you, we didn't deserve to win a playoff game this year regardless of whether Welker was okay or not, but losing Wes just sucked. He deserves far better.

But, didn't Brady play with a broken hand and ribs? That's pretty hardcore.
Most people I know have a raging hatred for the Pats and Cowboys. And it's funny because it's mostly the same gripes as people have against the Yankees. Wins and money.
Well, and the rivalries.

My gripe with the Yankees was that they kept yoinking good players from my Rangers. <_<

Just to emphasize...
FUCK Bill Belichick! The guy is a cheating asshole, who should have been kicked out of the league a few years ago for that stunt of damn near having a perfect season, from watching everyone's field practices!
Tom Brady is hardcore, Randy Moss is another TO but at least decent. But unfortunately, they're on a team that has a horrible "pragmatic" leader. I can't fault some of his decisions but Belicheck not shaking a coaches hand for a good game or all of the other little things he does is something that really pisses me off.
I think the Cowboys are more or less hated because Romo wasn't earning his keep. A $67 million dollar man who messed up for two seasons by messing up the punt? Yeah, not winning anything.
Plus the whole "America's team" thing from the past probably wasn't helping them win any past fans.

I'm rather ambivalent towards the Pats, and I will admit that my irrational hatred of the Cowboys goes back many years, back to the days when the 49ers-Cowboys rivalry was much more heated. I grew up with that rivalry, it's hard to let go.
Well, that and the Cowboys are a bunch of punks. :p

It's going to be The Chargers taking down the Cowboy's in the Super Bowl! It's time for Philip Rivers to join the 2004 quarterback draft Super Bowl Party!

That's the exact same thing my friend said. If the Jets Cinderella story never comes to fruition, they'll be my second choice.

And now...the Ravens, Cowboys, and Cardnals have gone down.
Any bets the Jets are next? :P
And shame the Cards and Cowboys didn't win...then the Championship games would all be played by teams who start with C.
EDIT: Son of a....*Sigh*
Man....what's up with those 3 missed Field goals? Wind wasn't THAT strong.

At least, so far, the Jets - Chargers game has been pretty close. The rest of the games have been blowouts.

Let's see...
We've got the Saints. They're supposed to be here.
We've got the Vikings. Yeah, they're supposed to be here.
We've got the Colts. They should also be here.
Wait...
Who's that chubby kid in the corner that couldn't get a date to the prom...
IT'S THE NEW YORK FUCKING JETS!
Holy shit, I just watched that entire game from a TGIF at Newark Airport. They almost had to evacuate it again. Nobody in any of the local papers or any of the newscasts called this one. Our coach was a laughing stock, everyone said we got here through catching massive breaks, now we're 60 minutes from the big dance! And the best part, Indy pulling their starters while playing the Jets the first time may end up being their undoing. They could have taken us out weeks ago, now they're playing for all the marbles. On the radio they're already calling this the greatest Jet victory since Super Bowl III.
THE CINDERELLA STORY'S COMING TO RUN HOUSE IN INDY!

Blast!
I was hoping for a Chargers - Cowboys Super Bowl. Instead the Chargers and Cowboys started their vacation last monday.
I want the Colts to win, but man, It would be Just Desserts if they lost to the team they helped make the playoffs by taking the last 2 weeks off. That would be awesome. it might change the whole "Rest the Starters" issue.
I'm sort of going for the Sanchize here!

I'm jumping on the Saints bandwagon today since this is their first Bowl, but I think Manning is going to pick their defense apart. I'm not expecting too many turnovers from either side, as their man to man coverage has sucked all around.
I'm saying 20-17 Colts with a late field goal to win it.

Both teams have an amazing offense and no real defense to speak of. Hoping 73-70 Saints just for the sake of it.

Pffft. I can't believe the Saints picked off Payton. He didn't get hit the entire game but they really exploited him like a cheap two dollar whore. And I'm proud of that. I didn't want him to get a second ring.

I came in after a long shift at Giant at halftime, not sure if I'd even watch. After seeing the Saints pull that ballsy onside kick, I started rooting for them. I just like their style <3.
