*edit*This is a response to Clevingers front page*/edit*

That insensitive banter that Floridian actually angered me enough to post in here again and defend my states honor, and coincidentally my driving.

Signals me personally, I use them but I feel like I might be an exception to this as I rarely see anyone else use them. But in the defense of our drivers it is because people tend to speed up so you can't get over when you put them on, even if they are way behind you. This brings up your manhood and passing.

I'm sure Virginians might be worse about this than you guys. In Virginia we don't let people pass because well by them being in front of you, you are no subject to the person in front of you's speed regardless if they are speeding. Why limit your speed, sure the speed limit may be 45 but hell if I want to go faster, I want to be able to do it. Granted though a lot of people in Virginia aren't complete douches here when it comes to this.

But I think New Yorkers are worse on this than Virginians. You need to just blatently cut off people there.

As far as the right and the left pedal go, ha-ha funny sir. We at least know them well enough to not get in accidents every five seconds. But you forgot about the clutch for manual cars so in your face.

Now, the appropriate comment here would be "lolwut?"

I'm going for the more eloquent: I'm sure you have a point, but you appear to have posted a rant on how Virginians are better drivers than Floridians. What you haven't posted is the piece of media, perhaps a video, that you are responding to.

Edit: Front page, Gems. Brian's hating on VA drivers. /edit

I'd like to know what is meant by this not knowing the pedals business? Are we not going fast or slow enough? Are we not reacting to things quickly enough or are we over-reacting? What do you meeeeean, Mr. Brian?

Also, be prepared for people to sit at green lights for, like, two seconds before they go. We're all terribly afraid of that guy we see every now and then who blows through a red light way after it changed. Watch out for him.

Well, it's comforting to know that Georgians that aren't the only people who lose their fudge whenever it rains (and yet, on a normal day, everyone will drive 15-20 mph above the posted speed limit).

As a proud Belgian (Seriously, can traffic rules get more complicated then in Belgium?) and European I'm gonna say just to piss you off:

"Wait you Americans can drive?"

Nah, in all honesty I've been to the East coast of the US a couple times, a few times New York, a few times New Jersey, a few times Florida (only place I have driven myself too, lol) and also to Virginia. In all honesty the rage my dad has when driving depends on how good or bad the traffic goes (and how well mom reads the map, and don't any of you guys dare say women and maps don't go well because dude, my girlfriend is a walking talking freaking GPS on her own)

and well,
Florida: Having driven there myself in Florida (Miami, everglades, Orlando,...) I didn't see that many idiots drive there.

New York City: Driving? It's New York City you idiot, you don't drive there, you sit in your car and can't move with those traffic jams, take the subway.

Viriginia, well, let's say, nope, not that many idiots there either.

I've seen cars spin out here so badly, you'd think they were on a sheet of ice, instead of a mildly soggy road.

Though I think the signal complaint is valid for Florida as well.

I will say this, Virginians cannot drive in the snow and at the same time can. Virginians tend to panic like hell froze over if there is an inch of snow on the ground. The majority of the drivers will slow down and adjust while a ton will also slide every where and go into ditches, but surprisingly not many accidents.

I saw on the news of people in Florida and Georgia last week with them all hitting people when it honestly was like just a lil bit of ice. Hilarious to watch.

New York, if it is anything less than 3 feet of snow they don't notice. Then again they have a hell of a snow plow system there.

The main rule in Florida is that all the time, somewhere, somebody is a student driver, whether they actually are or not.

Not a day goes by without me seeing something insane being pulled off.

To quote Dave Barry, "the one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers."

I'm not that great of a driver; I've only been driving for a year now and I'm still working on things like not panicking when driving in downtown DC. So I get angry and confused as to how people who have been driving for decades can be worse drivers than me. I get angry and confused every day.

Virginia has roads? Evidence?

Seriously though; last time I was there, I found the drivers every bit as bad as everywhere else. They seem to do an inordinate amount of "speed up to pass you then slow down to below the speed limit" though.

When it comes to "driving", Orlando has actually been the most frightening place that I've witnessed. Visiting a friend of mine who lives there, riding back from the airport I witnessed 3 accidents occur. Not minor fender benders, more like full speed collisions into the back end of other vehicles. The weather conditions? Sunny, 80°, and traffic was light. It's like the Florida license plates are engineered with massive electromagnets that cause every possible vehicle to rear-end the one in front of them. If I ever drive there myself, it'll be in either a WWII era Jeep or a Desert Storm Surplus Humvee. With spikes. And a cow-catcher. And a 120mm smooth bore.

...not that the PRV is any better. Apparently this year people forgot what Ice was. Or maybe the state was handing out free lobotomies. I think currently we are up to 200+ significant motor vehicle incidents this month. But at least here they tend to just fly off the road, making them no longer a hindrance. Of course, at least 10% of this could be attributed to poor road maintenance, but that's another subject.

So I stand with you Virginia, you are by far not the worst offenders!

Anyone from where you're not are shitty drivers - especially if they're visiting your hometown and you get stuck in front of or behind them.

God I hate flatlanders in the Ozarks, driving 10 below the speed limit because they're scared of the fact that the shoulder of the road and guardrails slid downhill years ago because of shale deposits so now it's a fifty plus foot drop onto small trees and boulders off the edge.

Apparently everyone in Texas is just angry when they drive. The only belief we have when behind the wheel is that its our Goddamn road and you better get the hell out of the way cause fuck you I can take my half of the road in the middle.

One thing about Virginia I will say possibly makes us better drivers though is our shitty ass road system. I read that comment on the surprise we have roads. I live in Northern Va. which is actually very different from the south. We have more hills and all of our teeth while the southern part of the state marries their cousins, its a fact, don't bother looking it up. Anyways back to my point, NOVA(northern VA) is very hilly so the roads go around the hills or up and down them making the roads a little difficult for you to drive on if you aren't ready for it. Our roads also have to be single lane in some areas so if possible we pass you and slow down cause we just don't want to be behind you.

Dude, as another NoVa resident... I do not know what you are talking about. If you think it's "very hilly" around here I can only assume that you've never actually been any place that is. :/

And there are far, far worse road systems than ours. DC, for instance. Unless you are talking about general upkeep, in which case I'm totally with you.

Also the main difference between us and the rest of the state is that we do not smell of Tobacco factories (okay, so that is mainly just Richmond, sorry Phil).

Hey I'm from Southern Virginia. I'm less than ten minutes from North Carolina. Yet I've never met any of these inbreds you speak of. Most the people down here have normal teeth. Nor have I met anyone who has ever dated anyone related to them. Most people down here have great healthcare due to the all the active military or miltary contractors. It wasn't until I lived in the DC area that I started hearing abut things like SMURF's or SMIB's. Which is a Northern VA thing. Also if you live in the Northern part of Virginia where there are a lot of hills it means you live next to West Virginia. Which has a reputation for being the biggest inbred area in the country. The truth is the area you trying to refer to is the Appalachian areas. Which earned that reputation just like West Virginia because most of the population was isolated and lived in poverty. It's an old tired out stereotype that gets played over and over again by some idiots that want to feel superior about themselves.

What I Like About this Thread, by phil_

What I like about this thread is that some people are taking this as a serious discussion of the merits of Virginia and its drivers and everyone else isn't, and you can tell the difference by the absence of line breaks. I think that's very funny. That's my report.
