Hello all,

I'm a bit surprised that a thread search turned up no results for this. I know when I first heard (http://twitter.com/bclevinger/status/8560111489) about Brian's new project (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2010/02/03/something-something-marvel/) the first words to come to mind were "holy shit".

So as this is the "Etc!" forum, I figure this is the right place to start up a discussion.

Now, when Brian says he's making "original content", do y'suppose that means new characters and new story, or new story for existing characters? I think Brian would do the voice of, say, Spider-Man or Deadpool fairly well, given his usual tone in previous works such as Nuklear Age (Atomik Lad specifically comes to mind for these characters).

Any other speculative thoughts?

I'm writing a story with some of Marvel's characters.

The "original content" qualifier is there because MegaTokyo was (is?) reprinted through CMX, an imprint owned by DC.

Holding out for Taskmaster here like you wouldn't believe.

When I can give some details, it will be clear why Taskmaster is not involved. Sorry, Meister!

Hopefully I can spin this gig into others and put Tasky back on the table at some point.

As long as the future gives us a Spiderman X Atomic Robo crossover... you can spin that table like there is no tomorrow!

When I first read this, I was like "Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah... woah. Brian has a twitter account?" Then I was like "People actually pay attention to Brian's twitter account?" Geez.

I mean... awesome.

Anyhow, are you gonna try and integrate some Daredevil in there? Some blind justice?

Hey good work making it to the big-leagues, kid!

I'm assuming that it will involve some of the more obscure Marvel characters, mainly as I always get the impression that Brian would have no interest in writing the better known ones.

Pretty sure in an Atomic-podcast, he and Scott listed characters they wouldn't mind working with, but I'm too lazy to dig it up.

Heh, just wanted to stop in to leave a congratz to Brian. Man, that's like a cartoonists dream, eh? Well, until the corporate soul draining starts >.>

Not meaning to repeat a question you no doubt have been asked many times, but will you be at any point coming within ball-kicking distance of Joe Quesada?

Atomic Robo is the dream. Doing some work for Marvel is very cool though. Hopefully this mini-series is just the first of many!

...Damn Brian! Your pretty much everything a web-comic artiest/writer wants to be.

"And Brian suddenly deleted his essays on the decline of good story telling in western comic books and erases any trace of insult towards DC and Marvel. Forever and ever, Amen"

Actually probably not huh? Anyway, that must be a really exciting prospect to be able to work with iconic characters like that. Hopefully that isn't diminished by the Disney thing but - hey wait I just had a great idea. You need to write some issues of Scrooge McDuck. This must happen.

Hey, one step closer to a Robo movie, that's how I see it. Schmooze a bit at Marvel, get in with Disney, BAM! Then you can claim the title of first webcomic writer, or comic comic writer, for that matter, to get your work in at a theme park. Maybe just a 3-D movie at first, but if Buzz Lightyear gets a whole exhibit to himself, Robo would be a shoe-in for at least some kind of similar shooting game, if not a roller coaster ride like the Norse thing. Or, like, replace that Godawful "Small World" thing with badass guns and explosions.

Brian, you better not get sloppy, dammit! We are totally holding you to the same high standard that we do with 8-bit and Warbot even though it is some chump Marvel project. If this is just another typical plot-device remix where nobody ever stays dead and the rules of time travel conveniently change to suit your needs, we will have to collectively e-bitch e-slap you. OUR LIST OF DEMANDS IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. At least 1 very subtle 8-bit theater inside joke that the marvel overlords don't notice. Sneak it in there good.

2. At least one character dies and stays dead at least for the duration of this story arc.

3. A setup for a Spiderman/Atomic robo porno crossover.

Hey a sincere congrats. I don't know if you prefer Marvel or DC, or if you contractually say you prefer DC even if you did... but that's one hell of an achievement and it shows how far you've come along to get recognized by them. I can honestly say, I will now be picking up a Marvel-printed piece.

Good luck and here's to many more!

So, does the "can't release details" include what artists you are going to be working with? Or is it going to be all/some of Team Robo?

Kurosen

I managed to get our letterer, Jeff, on the project. It didn't hurt any that he does a ton of work with Marvel already. No one else on Team Robo is involved.

Agreed, but...

Hey, one step closer to a Robo movie, that's how I see it. Schmooze a bit at Marvel, get in with Disney, BAM!

That's what I was more or less thinking. Even if it isn't a movie deal with Disvel? Marsney? down the road, if this goes over well it'll look good on your resumé or whatever. Either that or at least you can talk it up forever alongside your Eisner nomination.

Anyway, for the project, I was just hoping to get an original piece on The Sulk. But oh well.

Congratulations on this fantastic opportunity, Brian. You've come quite a long way in the last decade. :) (Please remember me when you become richer and famouserer.)

So, all we have to do is steal some pixels from a few video games and we can eventually work on our dream project and make something for a company that essentially has a stranglehold over half an entire medium?!

But, in all seriousness, good job, man.

More like...

Make 1200 Sprite Comics at a rate of 3 per week (with many, many vacation stops).

While maintaining a healthy readership and starting up 2 other comic series.

I predict that Brian's project might be a Robo and Superman tag team against Black Mage who is trying to level Earth (since it somehow survived all of the random acts of destruction from earlier.)

Superman will die, Robo will be forced into power save mode for 100 years before the mechanics can fix him. Black Mage will have become peaceful after seizing the pie and cookie industries and everything will be well.

But no one likes him anyway.

Ummmm....... Ok I missed an announcement somewhere. Guessing you cant give is firm details, but any chance you can tell us who the projects involve? Or at least a title and release date so we can start reserving copies now?

And congratulations! that is a huge step twards a Atomic Robo movie.

(if its animated I want to do a back ground voice. That would help me fulfill one of my dreams ;) )
