View Full Version : Nerf and Nerf warfare

A few months ago I decided on a whim I was going to spend my last saturday as a legal child doing the most immature things I could think of. To kick things off, I am having a NERF war in the snow at a local park. Picked up my gun and darts today, and was actually surprised at what some of this stuff could do, The sights on the gun actually worked, The cheap pistol I got as a backup has a good enough rate of fire, and the sword is heavy enough that you know your hit, but not enough to cause damage

so yeah, discuss the awesome that is NERF here.

Nobody can invade my apartment without finding themselves on the bad end of my sniper scope.

I live in a dorm with three other guys, one of whom is majoring in Shakespearean acting or somesuch; he's also trained in many types of older sword styles, and is often asked by friends and professors to help correograph fight sequences for their plays. One day he asks me to help him run through the steps and make sure everything is working out right, so we get out his Nerf swords and begin practicing the movements, grabs, etc.

"THEN THE TIME TRAVELING SPACE COWBOY SHOWED UP AND SHOT THEM ALL!" One of our other roommates stormed the room with his Nerf minigun-esque weapon and mowed us down while making that proclamation.

This happens at least once a week. In the event that it doesn't, a gunfight erupts out in our tiny dorm room anyway.

I'm torn between rather or not to buy the swords.

To add some extra zip to your Nerf weaponry, take the thing apart using disassembly instructions that you can find anywhere. Then lubricate the inside of the tube that houses the plunger that you pull back to fire. I used to use WD40, but that loses it's effects after a while. Your best bet is a coating of Vaseline. It gives your shots a noticeable accuracy and speed boost.

Also, if you have the money or technical knowhow, you can replace the spring itself with a higher tensioned spring of the same dimensions. Just make sure you don't go overboard. A spring that's too strong can snap the gun in two.

Good times.

All I've got is a nerf bat. :3

My loadout for tomorrow is a recon CS-6, with 2 extra clips, a Nerf Maverik on the belt, and one of the shortswords on my back. I feel like the Scout

I have one of these, as well. Man, they are such rubbish. The "laser sight" is kind of neat, I guess, but cocking it from the top is terrible design.

I got the longshot, fully intending to open it up and modify it. Same with my maverick. Never did, though.

Also, why is it so damn hard to take screw's out of plastic? Shit's annoying.

The vulcan is awful, get a Punisher instead. Its basically Nerf's apology for the vulcan being ass.

Ok, let me just say...

I would love to have one of these.

And it gets worse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i1R5GkXwFE)My nephew has one of those. It reminds me of the Chainblazer I had as a kid, just with no plastic chain to break and way more bullets. It's the best thing ever.

You're right, the production value of that was awful.

Last year one of my buddies had an awesome idea: buy a ton of cut-up PVC pipe and Nerf darts and have a blowgun war. Sure, it's not as cool as buying the real thing per se but it saved us a bunch of money.

I'm curious, how many of you guys mod your Nerf guns? I honestly have never heard of people doing that before.

It sort of looks like he's jerking off the gun....

But personally, I would take this gun

This thread has been the most convincing argument for having children ever.

I could quite happily spend an afternoon sniping my kids from atop my roof with harmless foam darts.

Don't judge me.

(And I wish they had those sword and axe things when I was a kid, we were relegated to bashing each other with sticks which tended to bruise.)

The Vulcan was awful. no range, no power, and took too long to reload

Nerf guns usually only have about a 30 foot max range, was it less than that?

(Keep in mind 30 feet isn't as far as you might think it is!)

I think you only have to stop being a child when you have one. If then. Hence why 83% of Nerf weapons are sold to boys 25 years and up.

Of course it's mostly snowballs, pinecones, cranberries or leaves for us over here. Or rocks; the weapon for all seasons. (In close combat, pillows, plastic swords, water pistols or food.) Keepin it old school. Also it's cheap.

Really? I got at least 20 feet from the one I had. And reloading always sucks for NERF guns...worse part is losing the goddamn darts. You know how many dart's I've lost in my life? Thousands!

The NERF bow wasn't to bad either. But It was annoying to shoot.

Here is NERF in it's awesomeness!
