We've all spent countless hours unlocking achievements on xbox 360 or ps3...Well now there are achievements for REAL LIFE!

http://achievesomethingreal.com/

I think my favorite is:

-Upsy Daisy-
Leapfrog an unsuspecting midget in public.

Its a user interactive site, the users vote win or fail on the story of how you achieved an achievement, and users can suggest new achievements, etc.

Personally, I suggested and Adventure section for things like geocaching, hiking, etc.

I'm considering signing up... how would I word my swordchuckery?

Edit- I voted for about 5 min strait while thinking "Wow, most of these are about fapping?" and then I realized they were all being submitted by the same user.

I might give this try. It sounds kinda fun to do.

When I read the title of this thread, I was reminded of a project I thought about doing a while ago. See, I'd go to low-traffic areas (graveyards, the top of parking decks, various bathrooms, alleys, fire escapes, etc.) and leave print-outs along the lines of

You've found a secret flag!

1 of 30

Good job!

See, it would give the people who found them some sense of mystery along with a thing to say to their friends. "Hey, I found this weird message. What do you think?" But then, like all my interesting plans, I figured I'd eventually be arrested for terrorism or something and gave it up. Same reason I never floated a banana through campus carried by a swarm of tethered bees.

But this thread and that site aren't about that, and having to sign up for it squashes my enthusiasm.

Yeah, just the ones on the front page seem... dangerous and illegal? Really, just no. I'd like to LIVE to achieve something. Like something real. Like finishing one of my games, or getting my BS.

This looks kind of terrible.
Yes, I like "completing" game challenges and getting more points added to my profile now and again, but mostly it's silly video game fun. These seem to be fairly terrible, and real life doesn't really need grind...

Admittedly I only took a quick stroll through some of the users listed on the front page. They could just be terrible people who made dumb achievements.

It took me a while to notice but those achievements are like 15% boys only, 10% Americans only, 30% drunken stupor and 50% 4chan. This could be fun if it attempted like, covering a wider spectrum of life. And wasn't a popularity contest.

I signed up, got my first 300 points, then browsed the achievement list.

Yeah. I'm sorry I signed up already.

Guys, the website isn't even officially UP yet. Its not gonna be perfect. This is like the beta.

Yes, many of the current achievements are stupid, but there are also quite a few clever ones. Users get to recommend new ones, and I am, along with several others I've told about the site. Its going to expand, and as it'll cover a broader spectrum as it does.

Thing is, for every user recommending a smart and clever achievement, there'll be ten guys proposing achievements based on masturbation, racial stereotypes and, quite possibly, mudkips.

Still, I'm interested in how this'll turn out. I'll keep an eye on it.

The internet has gotten too large, someone has to kill it before stuff like this goes full scale.

EDIT: I realized that did not convey my full opinion of this. So let me rephrase . . .

Fetch Questery

That actually sounds like a really fun idea. I wouldn't mind trying it just to see how many people actually find them and if they spread the word.

I wouldn't mind trying it just to see how many people actually find them and if they spread the word.Go ahead, just, for the love of god, don't tell the cops you got the idea from a guy named phil_ on the internet. Better yet, don't tell'em anything. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4097602514885833865#)

But let us know how it goes.

If I were him I'd just make this a bannable offense. I'm not sure if this came out right or wrong.
Not liking my face would also be a bannable offense. As well as having a different opinion than me.

To summarize:
Win and you're banned
Fail and you're banned
Don't like IG's face and you're banned
Have a different opinion than IG and you're banned
Call IG an oppressive dictator and you're banned
You're banned.

Vote me for Admin or something now.

With a platform like that, I have a better chance of getting promoted to staff.

Sometimes I honestly don't know why I make all that fuss about a language that isn't even my native one but then maybe that's the point. If you spent decades learning a language and then saw all the native speakers suddenly start talking exclusively in me go store buy game but fail store no have game lol doubleplusfail pidgin you'd probably feel a bit silly too. All these years, and I could have gotten by fine with opening half of a dictionary at random?

Not that German fares so much better these days, mind you.

YOU'RE THE FIRST ONE I'LL BAN!
Also, people who use capslock get banned.

EDIT: You should add that to your list of achievements.

Do the unpossible
Get banned by InsaneGenius.

I lived for six months in Berlin and the only words I needed were drucken and bier.
Though I'm moving to Leipzig for a while and apparetely I will need 6 words to live off there.

Yeah, Leipzig is a bit more sophisticated. Their vocabulary is astounding.
At work I sometimes have to talk to a guy from Leipzig but I don't understand a word.
I'm from Bavaria so the only words I know are Bier and mehr

Even with half of a standard English Dictionary you'd probably be better versed in the language than 90% of the people who speak it. What you need is the Urban Dictionary. Half of that would have put you on par with most of the native speakers.

This is actually a good idea but needs more moderation/ organization - good models are gonna be found in something like Nike+.
