View Full Version : Apocalypse Tomorrow

So with the final passage of Heath Care here in the US, the talks of Apocalypse and “end of America as we know it” have been making the rounds. Saturday we even had House Minority Leader John Boehner saying passage of the Democratic plan for health reform would constitute “Armageddon” that would “ruin our country.” In honor of the End Times that soon approach, I’d like to commemorate such sterling visions of our demise from the great sages of yesteryear (http://www.tnr.com/article/womens-suffrage-and-other-visions-right-wing-apocalypse).

“It may be impracticable that our distinctively American experiment of individual freedom should go on.”
—Senator David Hill (D-NY), in 1894, bemoaning the creation of a federal income tax

“Woman suffrage would give to the wives and daughters of the poor a new opportunity to gratify their envy and mistrust of the rich. Meantime these new voters would become either the purchased or cajoled victims of plausible political manipulators, or the intimidated and helpless voting vassals of imperious employers.”
—Former President Grover Cleveland, in 1905, on why women shouldn’t be able to vote

“[T]he child will become a very dominant factor in the household and might refuse perhaps to do chores before six a.m. or after seven p.m. or to perform any labor.”
—Senator Weldon Heyburn (R-ID), in 1908, on why child labor should remain unregulated

“I fear it may end the progress of a great country and bring its people to the level of the average European. It will furnish delicious food and add great strength to the political demagogue. It will assist in driving worthy and courageous men from public life. It will discourage and defeat the American trait of thrift. It will go a long way toward destroying American initiative and courage.”
—Senator Daniel O. Hastings (R-DE), in 1935, listing the evils of Social Security

“[The Act represents] a step in the direction of Communism, bolshevism, fascism, and Nazism.”
—The National Association of Manufacturers, in 1938, condemning a national minimum wage and guaranteed overtime pay

“It is destroying the amicable relations between the white and Negro races that have been created through 90 years of patient effort by the good people of both races. It has planted hatred and suspicion where there has been heretofore friendship and understanding.”
—Senator Strom Thurmond (D-SC), Senator Richard Russell (D-GA), and other Southern legislators, in 1956, describing the perils of integrating public schools

“It is socialism. It moves the country in a direction which is not good for anyone, whether they be young or old. It charts a course from which there will be no turning back.”
—Senator Carl Curtis (R-NE), in 1965, opposing Medicare

“[T]his bill could prevent continued production of automobiles . . . [and] is a threat to the entire American economy and to every person in America.”
—Lee Iacocca, executive vice president of Ford Motor Company, in 1970, on why the government shouldn't regulate airborne contaminants that are hazardous to human health

“The doctor begins to lose freedoms; it's like telling a lie, and one leads to another. First you decide that the doctor can have so many patients. They are equally divided among the various doctors by the government. But then the doctors aren't equally divided geographically, so a doctor decides he wants to practice in one town and the government has to say to him you can't live in that town, they already have enough doctors. You have to go someplace else. And from here it is only a short step to dictating where he will go.”
—Ronald Reagan, in 1961, arguing against the creation of Medicare
May the powerful beings of the heavens show mercy on our poor American souls.

This isn't even really socialized Healthcare anyway. It's just a very small step in that direction. So I don't know why people are calling it the end times. Oh wait, yes I do. They're idiots.

Meh, it's only the end of America, I'm not too worried.

Maybe it should be hyped as the end of America.

That way, all the stupid people will be too busy cowering in their bunkers to bother anybody anymore.

Really, of the list, this one's my favorite:
“It is socialism. It moves the country in a direction which is not good for anyone, whether they be young or old. It charts a course from which there will be no turning back.”
—Senator Carl Curtis (R-NE), in 1965, opposing Medicare
I think that one needs to be read on the House and Senate floors at least ten times aloud for everyone to hear.

I tossed that link on my Facebook to try and shut up some of my duped friends. I hope it helps.

While they wouldn't admit to it in plain sight, I think that today's doomsayers might agree with yesterday's. Especially when they speak of courses being charted, and steps being taken... some might privately think that these old events are in line with this current reform.

It's not socialism unless I got a gun in your face and shooting the fatties. Mensheviks are in the dustbin of history for a reason yo.

Rush Limbaugh and World Net Daily: Elections could end thanks to Obama (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=130577)

Limbaugh said Obama is getting what he wanted – a complete makeover of the United States into a country with bureaucratic control over individual lives.

"He has come to divide. He has come to conquer. He hasn't failed. He has succeeded," Limbaugh said. "The Democrat Party has been co-opted and is being led by a far-leftist faction who admire and envy people like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro."

Then he explained what be believes Obama's next move will be: padding the voter rolls.

"The next thing that's going to happen is a major push for comprehensive immigration reform. It will be called amnesty," Limbaugh. "None of this should have been a mystery to anybody.

"He will divide this country even further. We can't stop it. We deal with a president who doesn't care how many votes he loses in November," he said.

He also suggested Obama soon will slash the U.S. military, increasing the danger to Americans and their nation.

"He's not interested in your freedom, he's interested in taking it," he explained. "The only way that Obama will ever be able to come close to paying for this spending is to practically get rid of the U.S. military.

"He can't wait to slash that and use the money for domestic spending," Limbaugh said. "The days of the United States projecting its power in defense of people in bondage will likely come to an end.

"He will continue his crusade to forever alter this country," he said. "Rome is burning, and instead of putting out the fire, we have too many people looking for a bag of marshmallows."

Also, them commie pinko fascist liberals plan on stealing the next election (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=126357)!

While McCain runs bills that allow arresting any 'enemy of the state' without due process. Smart man, that Limbaugh.

Do you have any idea how expensive supercommandoes are?

Here's a hint: Even the US can't afford that shit.

We could just take a page from the cold war era Russian's and tell everyone that we've got a much bigger military force than we do. We just have to play it up enough and makes sure everyone else is to scared of calling our bluff.

The hilarious/depressing thing is that that's actually what we'd be expecting from Obama. America's spending on military is fucking ridiculous. I don't care how awesome your Navy is, do you know how much it costs to maintain that many Aircraft carriers? And your airforce, oh boy your airforce. STOP BUYING NEW PLANES. YOU DON'T NEED ANY MORE.
Honestly. The world is stable. Your biggest potential enemies are dependent on your importing excessive quantities of stuff from them. There is no need for a super-duper, highly-advanced military. It is not practical. It certainly won't be used "in defense of people in bondage", unless he means SM. It's money wasted, since, while the US could possibly win a world war, there's not gonna be one. It's like a guy buying this awesome sports car, when all he does with it is drive to the shops now and then. It's like E-peen, only for a huge country.

As for immigration reform, why would that be a bad thing? We had a discussion on immigration policy a while ago and goddammit, it's ridiculous. It needs reform. And claiming that the president enacting said reforms is doing so for the votes is like saying that he used the Haitian tragedy for political purposes.

Limbaugh's not making ridiculous predictions. He's making reasonable predictions and putting ridiculous motives behind those. He's saying that any and all change will be for the worse, and justifying that by villainizing the "figurehead" for change.

In short: Fuck Rush Limbaugh.

So Hard.

That's why my dad listens to the man; he knows that Rush is, in fact, an intelligent man. Behind all the racism, sexism, and paranoia that people remember is a man who knows his facts. That's why he's so effective, is that he's able to see what's coming and get people fearing it before it happens.

In short: Fuck Rush Limbaugh.

So Hard.
