Imagine we are the aliens for a second. Imagine the condensation on the planet is acidic to us.

Now we go down onto the poison planet (2/3s of it is pure acid) to conqure it for god knows what reason. And we go there naked.

With no weapons.

FINALLY YES! I was afraid I'd actually have to do work or be productive for a moment.

During the downtime I decided to try out Dungeons and Dragons Online some more, stocked up on 360 games during Gamestop's sale, and learned how much fun Lost Planet 2 is firsthand.

On a related note, was I the only one freaked out when the forum actually came up. Another site I was on timed out and so I clicked on the first link on my bookmarks and went 'that was dumb the forums have been down for OH CRAP THEIR BACK!'

Edit: Can I be the crazy paranoid guy who believes the new government's reconstructive efforts have a sinister purpose, only to be proven right and vindicated before the end.

I spent the downtime actually inviting two different families to stay at our house, staying at two other families' houses, and going to Nerdapalooza with a bunch of friends, where I met Magic Marker (however briefly), which was awesome, but didn't meet Brian, which was lame. However, I met the Nerdy Show guys (two, anyway, Triforce Mike, and especially, CAP!), so it partially makes up for it!

Also, I went canoeing, and (after three hours) started a fire, enabling the four of us to cook dinner. Nature can kiss my boat and eat my oars! Also, I have created fire! The triumph of man over nature is complete! Let the bells sound out, and the children play freely in the streets! Let rejoicing wash across the country side! Man is free of nature's tyranny at last!

Finally, I call dibs on the mysterious Shadowy Overlord's Left-Hand Man, once brainwashed into thinking the overlord's organization is a good thing, who eventually is freed from mind-control, subtly betrays said shadowy overlord to aid the protagonists (protagonii?), slinks away, and totally lives to tell about it later. That way I get the cushy life up until it's going to end anyway, and I turn out to be a cool guy in the end. Also, none of my evil was my fault. FREE BIRD! :D

This man had no idea what I looked like and was all like "Hey, are you Magic_Marker?" You've got skillz man, I'll tell you that.

Actually, I don't know how I figured it out either. I was thinking about it most of the time, wondering who you were, and trying to run a visual catalogue*, kind of similar to "forum nerds, through the ages". Something about the way we chatted when I first arrived (maybe it was the way we instantly talked about the Lollipop Guild being totally ninja? Nothing but forum-induced madness could follow that train!) stuck with me, and I was all like, "Hey, I wonder if that's him? I bet that's totally him!". Then I thought I'd walk up to you and go "Hey, Magic Marker!" Then I thought of how stupid I'd look if you went "... whuh?" Then I hunted around, found you again, and introduced myself in a more subtle way, to be less awkward if you had no idea. Turns out, it worked great, I look cool, and no one will ever know how nervous I was about being wrong! ... wait. Anyway, it was really cool meeting you in person! Also, did you get the Nerdy Show guys to sign stuff for you? CAP! sig'd a Nerdy Show advertisement card for me, which is terrific. :D

As to my stay, it was sadly short. I was with my wife and four others, two of which had to return to their child that day, and the other couple had to get back to their temporary camp residence before sunset (when the gates lock), and we were their ride. Since the parental couple had purchased tickets for us all to see the Sorcerer's Apprentice*, we went there after a few hours, and lots of fun gaming. Also, I work for our church on Sunday, so there was that. Despite how short our stay was, I had an absolute blast, and highly recommend it next year.

*On vaguely related notes: first, now there's apparently a spell-check on the forums. That's cool, but it doesn't recognize "catalogue" (but recognizes "uncatalogued")? Also, the Sorcerer's Apprentice was an acceptable movie, but really the opening narration should not have been there. They could have even kept the scenes, just dropping the occasional voice-over and it would have been LOADS better. ALSO, despite how much "SCIENCE!" they claim in-movie, don't believe a word of it, because they use the finest pseudo-science (often quoting some disproved bit of lore) known to man! And I have no desire to know what or who Dave sold (or to whom) to acquire the finances to create HUGE FRIGGIN' TESLA COILS (that he "made") IN AN ABANDONED SUBWAY STATION UNSUPERVISED BY A FRIGGIN' PROFESSOR. Education, even "higher" education, especially at the bachelor's level, DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY. I don't care what the school is. You don't get to build and keep things that could seriously be electrical and safety hazards. Also, the opening narration seemed to indicate a larger number of trapped evil sorcerers than was really there. ALSO, a couple of plot points were too convenient. Further, the music was just a little too manipulate-y ("oh, noes, he's dead, Jim! Finally, many of the villains just didn't have enough screen time (something that, by the way, could have been fixed by cutting the opening narration!)"). . All that said, I'd still give it a look, as it has some great moments, and Nicolas Cage and Alfred Molina are, hands down, some of my favorite people to watch on-screen. And somehow, this turned into a movie review by me. See? I'm the perfect not-truly-villainous left-hand man of the villain!

What did I do while the forum was down? Hmmm, let's see...

-Went to ConnectiCon as Ash Ketchum.
-Friend met a girl there and hooked up with her.
-Next morning I had to take her to the Hartford hospital because she had a seizure, friend was too drunk/hungover.
-That night, met Solid Snake and went out for drinks.
-Drove to Montreal and went to the wrong hotel.
-Drove to Toronto and met Nikose. Stayed at his apartment for two days and took the tour.
-Drove back to Montreal and met Bobby.
-Took a massive tour of the city and went to the casino.
-Drove to Burlington, VT and attempted getting into beerfest. They ran out of tickets so we barhopped.
-Drove back to Connecticut to attend a renaissance fair because we heard the girl my friend met was participating.
-Learned the basics of sword fighting.
-Drove back to Jersey.

Other than that, not much.

I trained my daughter to stick her tongue out at everyone and then laugh. I also buried her under stuffed animals and watched her crawl and wiggle out from under them.

Then I stared into space, contemplated my own existence and cried myself to sleep because I'm not sure I exist anymore.

And played some MechCommander and Warhammer 40k/Warhammer then ran through the streets naked shouting the end is nigh.

I updated my livejournal for the first time in like six months.

I also watched Stupid Mario Brothers in its entirety, from ep. 1 through the Movie and Operation Blind Storm.

And there were lots of video games in there too. I had to get my computer looked at for a video card issue, but it's seemingly okay now.

I also toyed with a new NPF comic series and started a few sketches, which may or may not ever be finished.

Honestly, the forum going down happened at an opportune moment for me. Sort of. Getting into my new school is getting complicated, so I've been running around like an idiot trying to figure out what to do, and, unfortunately, it seems the school was doing a bit of the same. I know it's late to be getting into this (not my fault; I needed an Incomplete to roll over into my passing grade and bugged my instructor for MONTHS before it finally happened), but they've seriously had all my transcripts for well over a week now and they still aren't done processing them. In fact, they lassoed me into helping them. I had to provide my future teacher with all the course descriptions of my programming classes so he could compare them with GB's program so he could then shoot the transfer info back to the office. Fractal enough for you?

Aside from that, I'm taking an online C++ course, spent an hour or two today trying to hang a storm door for my grandpa (it didn't fit because they expected you to fit the doorframe to the door (really!) according to the instructions) because he wanted a sealed unit only to realize that the doorframe was crooked of all things and a seal just isn't happening because the outside bottom corner is recessed, and standardized all the attack names on Final Fantasy Wiki, among other things.

So really, I had work (and Final Fantasy Wiki) to tide me over. They actually have a pretty nice community over there, so if the forums ever go kaboom again, I know where I'll head first.

Man.....Now I want to watch HArlock even more and I have no outlet for that. I be depressed now :(

I'm vaguely considering attempting to MAKE his cape/mantle, but I haven't done any sewing in about ten years.

Got a temp fix on the DDO forums (worked about as well as curbing a heroine addiction with sugar) and got my Arcane Archer/Kensei to level 7. I've been too lazy to get that toon in the guild as of yet though...I should probably do that tomorrow.

Found a couple new webcomics and read the entire archives for both of them.

I'm still trying to solve the mystery of the disappearing energy shot gum (the kids ain't sayin' nothin'). Considering how much "fun" this last weekend was its really more a matter of figuring out which one was the ringleader.

Man, and my farming was just confined to famsville.

By the way, wanna join my farm?

oh my God; kill yourself.

I played Borderlands, stole things in Arathi Basin, fixed an RSS reader, and then watched a lot of random LPs and TV on demand instead of doing the work I should be doing.

I also found myself going to Gamepad Dojo for the first time ever, but that was pretty boring. It was more a reminder that NPF was down than anything. We totally need that chat feature, though. HINT HINT

Endless Odyssey is a more recent series that I enjoyed a great deal. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D11ENl8EI4o) Otherwise, most of the Harlock stuff is seventies and eighties.

I also ended up doing a lot of writing while it was down and I got up to two hundred pages worth of short stories. Went on a few dates and had a pretty good time. It was almost like I turned into a functioning human being for once.

So, what, the forums crash and three or four of us end up enrolling in college?

I never knew this site had such a dampening effect on higher education.

I never knew this site had such a dampening effect on higher education.I'm pretty sure college has that effect on higher education. At least, in California.

Over the 2 week break, I decided to start up my account here again, and couldn't. So I'm doing it now. Yeeeaaaaah.......

I wandered, weary and aimless, through the dark void that was the NPF-less internet. And lo, did I see the destruction and hopelessness in that vast wasteland.

Mostly this, only worse. I ended up on The Escapist. The Goddamn Escapist NPF, do you see what you've done??!!

Also spent way too much time playing Borderlands and rewatching every episode of Stargate (it's a bi-yearly thing I do).

Now I look forward to Solid Snakes write-up of the history of the NPF (assuming he ever gets back to it) and his take on the untimely destruction of the forums.

My own forums imploded like a glorious star like a day or two after NPF did. Decided to rebuild them from scratch with SMF, got a chat thing that's pretty fantastic, and I even downloaded this mod for future use (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2232). That is the best mod for any forum ever. Also put a shitton of smileys on the forums.

Aside from that, started watching Harlock and Soul Eater.

Oh, I almost forgot! Sorry for not posting this before, but...

Another thing I did while the forums were down:
invited a friend over*, then immediately put him to work like the slave driver that I am fixing my computer. It's okay, though, because he (almost) has his doctoral degree in something computer-y!

And, I switched to Mozilla Firefox!

...

And I got a job. A big one. Starts in two weeks. I'm going to be a teacher for the first time ever. In a class that has eaten eight teachers in the last three years. EIGHT TEACHERS IN THREE YEARS. This particular class (it covers 5th through 6th grade, and has passed at least three sets of kids through somehow, without a constant teacher) is regarded as the 'hell class' by the rest of the staff, even though none dare speak of it that way... lest they summon one of the students. Last week I went into my class room. My ceiling was torn open, water was rapidly filling a trash can, and I had a literal pile of grading books stacked (I use the term generously, it was more like "thrown haphazardly on top of) taller than I am (I'm slightly short, but seriously, that's still tall), and a closet that literally spit books onto me every time I got near it, even though I left the door open when I walked away. Apparently no teacher in the last three years had organized the room. Just to make this thing the bee's knees, I'm going to be driving for four hours a day (two each way) with a nice eight-hour 'break' in between (school hours) and a good number of extra non-'office' hours each week (at home) grading tests for two grade levels (probably more, actually, as I am told I have several kids in my class who are in need of special assistance, as they test at grade levels below their own).

This added to my new responsibilities at my church of: Sunday School Leader (K5-3rd/4th grades), and liaison with all of our extra-church partners (ex: Habitat for Humanity, Xtreme Solutions, Brother's Keeper, etc). In the first I open the class, lead the kids in praise/worship, then teach them a the Bible verse before sending them to craft/snack. In the latter, I sit down and meet with people (WHEN?!?!?) and see what is going on in their ministry/work and how we, as a church can help (financially, yes, but mostly finding out how we can plug our people into volunteer positions), after which I create a report, and advise our church of where we need people, and with what skills.

So, to sum up, I might not be around the forums much in the next twelve months, starting in two weeks.

On the bright side, I was able to get this job because I graduated last month!

*I actually did this to two. Regrettably, the first one... failed me. He won't fail me ever AGAIN!!!!!111!1!1!one!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! (this is because he now knows what was wrong, duh)

It's got nothing on Gaia. They actually have it in their TOS that they're not responsible for you flunking out of college.

Went to a life organizing/suicide prevention/antidrug class for a few days. Got classed up for my job training, from 3pm to midnight. Seeing as my off time had very little room for the regular kind of fun when you are just 18 I ended up sitting here downloading too many things and trying to let them occupy my time.

Mostly along the lines of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri(just...just one more turn). Also downloaded Starcraft again, and decided to figure out which MMO I enjoy more. City of Heroes or Champions Online. I ended up taking Champions. Also fell into a moment of setting up baseline operations in different facebook games to just make money for me since I never have enough allies to be powerful any other way.

Also took advantage of things I already had like Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 and getting my ass royally whipped constantly in Counter Strike. Preordered Fallout New Vegas in the hopes that what I am seeing in the trailers will make me as happy as I figure I'll be come October.

Went back to gaiaonline*dodge* to get a small measure of RPing while this was out in the middle of the second week because I could not really stand waiting anymore.

So nothing, nothing constructive at all.

I played too much Borderlands, the general knowledge base of Dungeons and Dragons Online assimilated itself into my brain (just like Pokemon did four freakin' times and threatening to do a fifth time in the future) watched a crapload of Two and a Half Men and was generally bored.

Now that we know the survivors and are already planning to rebuild, can I be the guy who wanders off early on and comes back to either:
a) Destroy the bandit army laying siege to your semi-developed sanctuary
b) Lead the bandit army laying siege to your semi-developed sanctuary
c) Post more Deadpool pictures

I kinda thought NPF was dead, and dead like forever, so I deleted my Lets Play scripts and character sheets, and tried to find new, meaningful ways to spend my time.

So far I have installed blinds, upgraded my computer, cleaned the house, cleared out the storage room, rotated the tires on my folk's cars, starting selling shit on craig's list to pay for personal college expenses (Snack-oos), and talking on other forums and online places as my alter-ego, Neuse, forming real relationships with other people and maturing as a responsible young adult.

Also so far I have managed to get sunburn, blisters on my hands and feet, a severe pain in my lower back, and lost like fifty bucks, so it's good to be back on NPF. Seriously, all that other shit can go blow itself.

Though if anyone wants to help me raise funds, I've got shit to sell you. Screw Craigslist!

I finished college, waiting on my degree verification. Worked on my resume (for five minutes lololol God I hate resumes). I got a '92 Thunderbird and painted it black, gonna get it some chrome. I beat GTA 4. Saw Predators, thought it was fairly boss. I read like ten fantasy novels from dollar store spinner racks. Started reading the Belgariad.
