View Full Version : It's time for some FOOTBALL!!!!!!!

It's that time again, the beginning of football season! And no I don't mean the game they call football over in the rest of the world. I'm talking about North America's game, the one they are spending 9/10ths of the game holding the ball in their hands, throwing it or standing around doing nothing. Yes the greatest game ever invented that's not on ice.

Whelp I was going to post this before the snooze fest of Kickoff Thursday happened but I forgot. Just like I forgot to send out my much anticipated weekly picks to my coworkers till today as well. Got a little lazy there didn't I. Now I had hopes SnoozeFest 2010 version would be better, what with the first drive being a touchdown but then they remembered that it's the first game of the season and decided they didn't need to score much. Seriously guys. 2 top flight offenses and it's only a 14-9 game? Honestly what a sad sad day. I was all excited too, because the first ever sporting even Annabel ever watched was the New Orleans vs Vikings NFC conference game. Yes I know she was only a day old and was probably staring at nothing but the strange thing on the TV but I held her the entire time during the game so it was cool. So shut up about her actually watching it!

So now I'm eagerly waiting Sunday so I can plop my arse down on my nice new couch(Got it just in time for football season!) with my daughter and we can watch football! She's a Packers fan! Yep she is. Gonna get her a Rodger's Jersey as well. Who is going to be the best QB this year. Yep he is!

My view is that Rodger's will lead his awesome packers offense, which will be the best in the league this year to the Super Bowl. Which they will win over the NY Jets as the Sanchise and their vaulted D will crumble under the lights.

Of course, the Jets could fall apart before that because they have so many damn ego's on that team. Plus a QB who last year had to have his offensive plays Colour Coded for him last year. It'll be entertaining to watch!

I also want to see Favre implode(he almost did it last night), The Bengal's receivers argue, the Bills joining the Lions at 0-16, and Albert Haynesworth getting lazier and lazier.

Anyone else excited over the new season?

No. I work in an environment full of 90% Bengals, 5% Browns, 4% Steelers and 1% Hockey.

You...

You're...picking the Jets...to go to the Super Bowl?

I...

I think I might love you.

Though I think you might also be delusional.

As for the egos, we NEED those egos. We haven't had egos since freaking Namath! I think it's in large part Rex's smack talking that got us to the championship.

I'll be at opening night, mezzanine, center of the endzone. Hopefully Sanchez passes to the GREEN JERSEYS this year.

Shit, I'd be picking the Jets to win it all if it weren't for what looks to be a vastly improved Packers team in all areas.

The only true Question mark for the Jets is Sanchez. Other then that, I think LT is going to bounce back with a real O-line for once.

IMHO it would be so much more entertaining if football was played from a martial standpoint. On the otherhand, I've never been to a LARP and I don't understand why people don't like it. Hitting each other with weapons in a semi-non-dangerous environment. What's not to like?

Favre sucked because he missed training camp because he was busy pretending to retire, maybe, but not really, perhaps.

Obviously the Lions are going to the Super Bowl this year. Law of Averages would also presume them to go undefeated this year as well. And for every opposing player to spontaneously combust.

But no seriously the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl, if they can decide who is going to start, and then come back from whatever performance this new starter gives. Although I guess it is going to be Dixon. The Eagles will also go and that way every other state but PA will be screwed!

Obviously the Bears are going to win it all.
Mostly due to the fact that's the only not-at-all-football club I know, due to my exposure to "According to Jim".

Actually, that's the only reason why I'm thinking that.

As for actual-football. I'm hoping for FC Twente to do the unthinkable, and take the national cup for a second time in a row here in the Netherlands, though a LOT of the champion team left or retired. So, we'll see what happens. (not that I care much about actual-football, it's mostly regional pride talking)

Well, a lot of it had to do with all of Green Bay being thoroughly sick of him. I mean the whole city. He's just not a nice guy and was jerking the team around for several years and IIRC, they said they'd take him back, but wouldn't make him a starter, the year he left. He actually wanted to go to Mississippi (I think) because he owns some nice property down south, but everybody made sure he went to the Vikings just to spite him. He was pissed.

It's probably not totally accurate, but the point is that Green Bay was tired of his BS for years before he left and he got screwed when they finally got fed up.

Nah Blue, he wanted to be traded to the Vikings when he unretired for Green Bay, then they traded him to the Jets and he didn't like that. Green Bay had to do something though, The felt Rodgers was ready and they would have lost him if they kept Favre. And so far it's looking good that they Kept Rodgers and Traded Mr Favre.

49er's will make the Playoffs, then it's up to Alex Smith to see what happens and he could be good or he could fail. I'm excited to see how Smith pans out with actual weapons on the offence to use.

Hey Darth, how's the 13th man?

And the Bills are going to be the last place team. They have nothing aside from Spiller, NOTHING.

Pyros prefers the game where people actually connect ball to foot for the majority of the game.

I don't think I even know who is on what team and what team is actually good at games, because when I was 8, it was Cowboys, when I was like, 15, it was the Patriots, and now that I'm old and shit I have no idea.

I'll be eating lunch and a friend will walk up to me and say "Hey, did you see that one game that happened?" and I'll be like: did our team win? And usually, they'll figure out I'm being vague so I don't have to admit I have no idea which team is "our" team. Then they'll ask what I mean by "our" team, and name a team that may or may not be their favored team, just to test me. And I will be silent and perplexed, and it will be an awkward moment, and my plate of nothing but carbs will go cold.

And of course, no one knows what I'm talking about when I mention how great I think Nicholas 'Sir VG' Hoppe is, or Daigo Umehara!

And I want Mexico to start being a contender in the world Cup!

Because winning a Grey Cup as a first year coach is poison?

You've made the playoffs 2 years in a row and won a Cup in 2005. You haven't really been sucking for that long. You are sucking this year majorly but that's because they don't really show up to play football this year.

Was really impressed with the Patriots young D. I thought they wouldn't play that well but they pushed around the Bengal's O-line like they were a buncha little boys.

Thought Green Bay would get more points then that, Vick was impressive of all things. Kolb was ineffective and Vick wasn't very weird.

whelp, what the hell was with the 49ers? 6 points? Against Seattle? my god. Smith was horrible, not great, but wasn't horrible but Gore couldn't run, receivers couldn't catch....my god!

Bradford had a decent debut for a rookie, he should improve over all.

Lions lost to the Bears. Little surprised since I figure the Bears will be turn over machine this year. Cutler wasn't even the worst one out there! Not sure I understand how that wasn't a catch at the end though. Really looks like it on each and every reply.

Miami-Bills game dull.

No real surprise the Raiders got ran out of town by the Titans.

Didn't think the Jaguars would win, but the Bronco's just couldn't finish drives.

Buc's and Browns game was as expected. 2 bottom feeders in a bad game.

Steeler's surprised me with a win against the Falcons. Really didn't think they would win. Dixon played pretty well in the game. They may have a chance without sex fiend Ben.

New Yark Jets have to win tomorrow since the New Yark Giants won against a really really bad panthers team. I mean really bad.

You do know that, in addition to having the best slot-receiver in the league in Wes Welker and one of the most freakishly athletically gifted receivers in Randy Moss, we also have two amazing new talents in tight ends Gronkowski and Hernandez, not to mention Tate, Edelman and competent HBs who can catch passes like Kevin Faulk and Fred Taylor?

All you have is one talented cornerback who's missed most of training camp and can only cover one of our given receivers at a time. Good luck choosing between Moss, Welker and Gronkowski, because the other two are going to burn your sorry asses.

P.S. Sanchez is horribly overrated, your team is horribly overrated, and the media's built them up to such exotic heights that watching them crash and burn will be a delight to witness. Particularly given the identity of your coach.

and the media's built them up to such exotic heights that watching them crash and burn will be a delight to witness. Particularly given the identity of your coach.

We've watched them crash and burn for 40 years, though I've only been around for 24 of those. The reason neither I or the rest of the tristate area give a fuck about Rex's antics is because the last three or four of our coaches have had less personality then a throw rug. One of them made too many excuses and had the most rigid play calling in the game. The next tried to be Bill Belichick part II and in the process of trying to keep our "super sekret game planz" under wraps, he became the most boring one-dimensional person ever to walk the face of the earth.

We needed an asshole. Specifically an asshole who is batshit insane. Insane enough to call super bowl wins even though it pisses the rest of the country off. We all know Sanchez won't amount to anything, we know there's a good chance we'll collapse before the playoffs. But, it's good to see the coach actually doing his job and energizing people for once.

Dixon played just as good or better than Roethlisberger would have. He probably had about five less sacks and seven less interceptions than Big Ben would have had by the point he made his first and pretty much only mistake. Frankly what with the performance of Redman's and eveyrone's running game I'd say it's time to move back to it and leave all that "passing" bullshit behind.

The Eagles should just let Vick be first string already, yeah, I know, he killed some dogs. Other star NFL players have shot people or taken drugs (or raped people! Look at Pittsburgh, they hint that they might not make Ben starter, which I know is bullshit, but there's no hint at dropping the bastard at all) and never even gone to jail for it! Vick can actually run that shit in himself if things look hairy, stick Kolb in as second, seriously.

Guys I've been reading up on the financial structure of the NFL and I've discovered a shocking secret. At the heart of this most American tradition lurks the tendrils of communism! Collective wage agreements, revenue sharing between all the clubs, draft picks to equalise teams- something must be done! The British (and rest of Europe) have really one-upped you here- their football leagues have massive financial disparities between clubs and they are all on the brink of financial disaster due to reckless overexpansion based on dodgey loans and continual takeovers by foreign businessmen using the clubs own money. I'm ashamed of you America.

I thought the Steelers did quite well against a surprisingly good defense from the Falcons. I still think that we can make the playoffs. The Ravens seem to be the only true threat in the division, and I hope that Ochocinco and TO continue to be more concerned with themselves than with the Bungles, and hope the Brownies continue to suck. Where I live now is 50% Panthers, 20% Steelers, 20% Cowboys, and 10% other teams. Where I used to live was 90% Brownies, 5% Bungles, and 5% Steelers, man it was hell living there. Oh well, the Steelers have 6 Super Bowls, the Brownies have not won a championship since 1964, the Ravens have one Super Bowl, and the Bungles have never won a championship. As far as that goes, "America's Team" has one playoff victory since 1996, and the Titans, despite how horribly arrogent they are, have never won a championship and they probably never will.

Here is hoping that the Steelers overcome their early problems and win a seventh Super Bowl this year. Here we go, Steelers, here we go!

Well, now they have TO, so you know they aren't going anywhere for a while.

Ho Ho Ho. The Jet's beat the pats! And Sanchize didn't look half bad! The Pats D got exposed a bit against the mediocre Jet's passing attack. I think the Jets are screwed if they keep trying to run on almost every first down.

Glad to see Favre back to his old turnover prone self. I missed that about him last year. Same with Anderson. Shit the Cardinals are screwed this year with him at QB.

Steeler's D is unbelievable this year. Anyone trying to run on them is going to lose like the titan's just did.

Cowboy's are doomed. That D was exposed and ruined. Don't think the 'Boy's will be partying much this year.

Vick was actually impressive. Expect him to start somewhere next year. Buffalo or Cleveland maybe?

Yay for Jacksonville being smote...

And now we get to see which Manning brother sucks less. Which so far... appears to be Payton.

I loved listening to Chris Berman last night.

"Everyone keeps saying you can run on Indianapolis. So Houston did."

Also: Man, Patriots downed by the Jets. Didn't see that coming at all. Maybe Sanchez is for real?

About damn time Sanchez manned up. He's been acting a little skittish at QB.

Woo-hoo! The Steelers beat up the hated Titans, and without any offense to speak of. I know it is early, but their defense looks similar to the 2000 Ravens or the 2003 Buccaneers. I hope they can stay healthy, and I hope they can get some semblence of an offense.

Also, how 'bout them Cowboys!

They're doing just what everyone thought they'd do. Choking right at the finish line. And Romo still is being shot down by egotistical coaches that care more for the money than actually winning.

Finish line? Hell they're choking at the starting line! Poor Romo is screwed with such bad play calling from the coaches.

At least the Rams can only exceed my low expectations! Unless they lose every game.

HOLY CRAP!

This game is awesome! :aaa:

For the love of all that is holy: hold, Defense! HOLD!

EDIT

Or not...:crying:

I'd almost rather get blown out than to lose a heartbreaker like that.

On the bright side, that game gives me some hope for me team. If we could catch some freakin' punts, we might start to win.

The 49ers? Yeqah. That was a good game. And the fact that they managed to pull off that drive when they needed it the most...

Yeah, the 9ers. It's been awhile since I've gotten to sit down and watch them play a full game (teams that stink don't get TV time, and I didn't have consistent access to a TV last season). While it did remind why its fun to watch sports, it sucks so bad to lose a game that close.

Damn, I was pulling hard for the niners. Crushing loss, especially at home.

As for the Jets, there's been this pattern over the years where whenever they play the Patriots here, I come down with a migraine headache late in the third quarter because of how freaking loud the stadium gets. I felt like my head was going to explode. I watched the Brady fumble and the last two touchdowns from the exit ramps.

I'm still up in the air about the team. Sure, Sanchez pulled a 100+ QB rating, set a couple personal records...but we're missing Jenkins, Revis is questionable, and they are the Jets. They have a penchant for disappointment. Based on what I saw over the past two weeks, if they can manage to not destroy themselves for like the 15th year in a row, maybe we have a shot in the playoffs. But, can we really make it past Manning or Brees should it come to that?

It was an awesome game though. Complete domination in the second half. Even with the new seats we were forced into because of the PSLs. Hope they were worth it.

I don't know. The Jet's that beat the Patriots can beat any team in the league. It's just a matter of which Jet's Offense shows up.

But I think the Jet's team can handle the Saint's or Colts fairly easy. Neither one has looked impressive. The Colt's D has been run over by the Texan's running game and the Giant's when they decided to run it. The Jet's will be able to take advantage of this. Plus their O line doesn't look like it's improved at all. The Bree's offense isn't that great this year, and their D is pretty good, till they get hit with a run game. Peterson and Gore took big chunks out of the Saint's at times during their games.

The only teams I would be scared of are the Steelers and the Packers. Both look to be the top teams in their respective conference this year. The Steelers have an amazing D and the Packer's seem to be the best all around team. Other then that, the rest of the teams (aside from the Bills, Browns, Raiders, Panthers and the NFC West division) can beat each other at any time.

I hope the Steelers are not looking ahead to the Ravens in a couple of weeks. The Buccaneers look like they could be a decent team. I hope their QB situation improves, or else we may see Randel El and Ward behind center, and that is a scary thought. :-O

The Steelers beat up the Buccaneers 38-13 with our fourth string QB. Woo-Hoo! Imagine how good we will be with Big Ben back under center. Next up, our tough division rival, the Ravens. Should be a tough defensive struggle. Hopefully our QB can stay healthy. Go Steelers!

Man, the last two minutes against the Ravens really sucked! Oh well, a 3-1 record without Big Ben is very good, and now we have a bye to get healthy. Watch out Brownies.
