I don't know why google's delivery service would think even for a second this is a good place to serve "Vote Republican!" ads since the majority of the userbase here is overwhelmingly, if not democratic, certainly not republican and certainly not fucking retarded*.

Way to go, google.

* politically speaking, you guys are the dumbest bunch of jerks I've ever known otherwise

I'm a swing vote. They might be trying to pick me up.

It's probably all the discussion of the gay.

Truth, I'm on the side that if people are in a position for me to vote on, it doesn't even matter anymore.

I want to apply for American citizenship just so I can not vote Republican.

But seriously, I have wild dreams about the sort of political system we'd have if we ever got around to founding King Steve's Kickass Country.

Even worse than that is that the ad makes the basic and very false assumption that the majority of people here are even going to vote at all.

Or even can, considering how many not-USA people we have.

I think only American IPs will pull those ads. I'm getting ads about French hamburgers.

I actually got them in Australia and China as well. Paris too.

So googles super context sensitive ads have poor location filters? Surely that would be the easiest bit to do.

I just got an add for San Francisco weekends. Even google thinks I'm gay.

Me, I'm a tea party man. (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BhlrW_cJcsg/TDGlxaJAJPI/AAAAAAAAAog/HwCr_mLzCT4/s1600/Tea-Party-3.JPG) I can't figure out why everyone is against them so much. There's a lot of earnest discussion, and serious topics are brought forth. And the cookies are usually pretty excellent. I guess I'll have to turn to the internet for answers...

Oh. Oh dear. (http://http://www.bluehogreport.com/wp-content/uploads/insani-tea-party-sac0415cd.jpg)

They're talked about often enough.
I'm guessing you probably know how Google's ads work, but in case this was in earnest they don't know the context, just the content.

According to mine I am supposed to stop Texas Oil Barons by voting no on Prop 23. Despite this totally messing with laissez faire capitalism which is the cornerstone of any free society.

Maybe it was a one-day thing, or maybe google tracks your internet activity and feeds you ads based not just on page content but browsing history...

Maybe this means I should quit watching political websites.

Oh, Google DOES track internet activity. They have a nice little script that everyone and their mother runs on their site, which presumably just tracks IP data. And everything you enter into a google search, even without hitting enter. And, on Chrome, anything that you type into the address bar, same deal about not hitting enter.

That's why you get something like AdBlock Plus and block Google Analytics. and everything else that pops up Google.

I can honestly say I'm glad I have it, if only because it means I don't have to see political ads anymore. They're what eventually pushed me into getting it, because my previous ad blocker didn't allow blocking of Google ads, which were the ones I was getting sick of in the first place.

Yeah, Iron is better.

I use Firefox with noscript, personally, and just block all the Google scripts.
