I believe every situation can be described using an analogy of banging your head on a brick wall.
Writing a book: Banging your head onto a brick wall until the wall breaks into a sculpture.
Discussing Politics: Banging your head onto a brick wall and getting nothing but a headache.
Programming: Banging your head onto a brick wall and hoping the computer manages to recognize it in binary.
The budget deficit: Banging your head onto a brick wall in hopes that you'll eventually be able to afford to buy the wall.
Anybody want to list more or try to disprove this?

Work is like banging your head on a brick wall: you keep on doing it until you hit a question mark block and don't get paid nearly enough for the effort.

Fighting: You attempt to bang you opponent's head into a brick wall, while trying to avoid the same being done to you. Wait, that might not be an analogy . . .

Checking this topic: Coming in expecting something to do with Hearts Boxcars and being very very disappointed. Then just walk away sad no head banging necessary unless you decide to start listening to some metal.

Writing EE posts: You build brick walls for others to bang their heads into, sometimes done by using your head as a hammer (it's alright, my insurance covers it).

Waiting for Hussie to rescue Jade: You bang your head into a brick wall to no avail, then you go to the image manipulation thread so you can pass the time by banging your head into the image editor brick wall.
Fighting EvilEarl: Banging your head into a brick wall just to be able to find my general location, then another wall for address, and another for my real name, and then another to try to find me at the right time, then I bang your head with a brick wall (or at least it'll feel that way).

Shit, I need to think about this one . . .
