View Full Version : Stupid Bot-Checking Is Stupid

So today I wanted to get free tokens for a Facebook app, but I had to sign up for some crummy survey service. So I thought "Why not? I'll just setup a dummy account somewhere." S I went to GMail, and tried to register, and guess what. The bot check thing sucks.

You know the thing I'm talking about - the "Type the word you see in this box." It's not rocket science, but come on! They never simply just show you the word. It's always some weird wavy thing with blocky font that makes you work for your account. I just want free tokens for my FB app, dammit! I don't wanna have to Holmes my way through your twisted, sadistic, Machiavellian email system!

You know who you are, you Google bastards. You and your ads and your search engines and your maps. You're slowly taking over the internet and we're just expected to sit here, hypnotized at the "simplistic" and "time saving" mechanics of your machinations.

Well, not I! I will not stand for this! I will rise off my couch, venture outside and take a walk! ...To an internet cafe. That's right! I will sit in relative comfort, waited on like the big, macho, incredibly handsome and rugged man I am, and with a large, fair-trade coffee and a fresh multigrain bagel, I will tear down your virtual castle, brick by brick and free the internets from your tyrannical reign! I will not rest, I will not sleep for an instant, I won't even get up to use the washroom, until I am given what's mine by right!

Forums everywhere will sound with cries of revolution! I will fashion myself an internet Che Guevara and fight against your oppressive regime! I will don the visage of Guy Fawkes and blow your tyranny off of the web! I will eat less that Mahatma Gandhi as I try to....

Ah screw it. Can we all just agree that these people need to write that damn word clearly?

XDDD

The issue with writing the word clearly is if they do, then the bots can read it easier, too.

That'd defeat the purpose, as the bot could then actually read the word.

If they write it messily, it's much harder to write something to interpret the image this way. Or, that's the idea, I think.

Edit: Now you ingrates, since I know you're online, ought to post in that spiffy thread about the background image, and go, "Man, that rpgdemon chum, he makes some spiffy tiled background."

I would, only I hate having a background image, so my opinion doesn't matter.

But the image is spiffy, is it not? :P At the least, doesn't look tiled/jarring/noticeable. Still could use some tweaking, but it's a start.

I haven't seen a threadjack this unabashedly hard since that time Lev threadjacked that thread about how someone couldn't sleep with his fire spinning stuff.

@ Seil:

You know what they did to Guy Fawkes, right? The Brits don't burn him in effigy every year just to be whimsical. I would seriously reconsider taking any actions that would lead to what happened to Guy Fawkes. :ohdear:

Look at your doctor, now back to me, now back to your doctor...no back to me.
Thankfully your doctor isn't me. For when I leave this place I will wait in my S.U.V., blast me some speed-metal - 5.1 surround sound, heavy on the bass - and someone...will be getting.. mowed.. down
Maniacal monical laugh!

...damn hooch is crazy.

Though they DO have an audio option for those who are having trouble normally...Yeah, but then you get things which are plainly not words nor comprised of the alphabet.

I got a degree sign(°) in my Captcha once. And I don't mean in the second "Wildcard" word.

Yeah, they're starting to throw in numbers and junk. I've gotten (thankfully typable) punctuation recently. If I ever got a degree symbol, I'd just ask for a new one. Screw memorizing special character codes.

Frankly, I only keep a recollection of a few key characters. And then only in HTML, since you can't rely on Unicode characters always showing when designing web pages. In my case, trying to type many special characters results in my browser going back for some reason, too, so I generally just don't use them.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I have ° in my keyboard. Also ª. The only alt-character I manage to remember is ¿ ( alt-168 ). Then again, I have this bookmarked so I don't have to remember. (http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/ALTchrc.html)

™ is about the only one I can reliably remember. alt-0153. It is a very fun one to use, now and then.

I have memorized several recently because I'm learning a language which actually uses diacritics. Namely: ö, ä, å, Å, etc.

The file is current named ?_?;DB-.-???_???«»…?—™®©??.txt
