View Full Version : Coolest Mom Ever
Stories like this restore some of my faith in humanity. (http://nerdyapplebottom.com/2010/11/02/my-son-is-gay/)
My son is gay. Or he’s not. I don’t care. He is still my son. And he is 5. And I am his mother. And if you have a problem with anything mentioned above, I don’t want to know you.
Not just that the mom let her son dress the way he wanted for Halloween, and not just that she encouraged and defended him, but that she wasn't the only one who did. His friends didn't care, either, which is pretty awesome. I wish this kid all the luck in the future, whether he's gay, straight, bi, etc.

She named the kid Boo, she has more important things to worry about.
I assumed Boo was a nickname.

If you think that me allowing my son to be a female character for Halloween is somehow going to ‘make’ him gay then you are an idiot. Firstly, what a ridiculous concept. Secondly, if my son is gay, OK. I will love him no less. Thirdly, I am not worried that your son will grow up to be an actual ninja so back off.
This is terrific.

When I first started reading the first quote I was apprehensive, because I was worried that it was going to start applying sexuality labels to bloody 5 year olds.
And then I read the rest and now I second the Internet High Five. Positive role modelling right here, for both Boo's classmates and just the world in general.

Mom's cool, though those other mothers are basically terrible people that should have been decked.

Surprise factor on parents ABC: low. This was a Christian school. That it was a hotbed for this kind of attitude is like saying grass is green.
That mom deserves a medal, though.

I dressed up as a Ninja Turtle one year and I wanted to be a Ninja Turtle.
Then my wish came true!

Sadly, decking stupid people doesn't generally fall under positive role modeling where five-year-olds are concerned.

Well, maybe YOU don't consider teaching five year olds to deck stupid people a positive thing.

I just had the very silly idea that this kid would be an... interesting addition to Costume Quest.
Giant Daphne Blake.
Also they need to sell Costume Quest for the PC.
Also I need to stop being off topic. Gonna echo the comments that this mother is pretty cool.

What were they expecting him to do? be FRED? Fred sucks. Fuck Fred.
And Shaggy's a Lazy-ass costume to make.
Ooooh, I wore a green shirt and brown pants, ooooh, let me hang out over here with the L cosplayer

Wouldn't encourage the boy to cross-dress turn him into a, you know, cross-dresser? If that was how it worked? And he wasn't just displaying a mature and enlightened sensibility towards traditional gender roles probably due to the numerous wise and clever women involved in raising him?
That anyone would even complain about this I take as evidence the world isn't perfect yet.
But we're learning.
