In this thread I brag about vacationing in Oahu for the last week, and I will answer your questions about my trip if you have any.

Waikiki is more or less a tourist trap, but other areas of Oahu are really great. Swimming at Kailua beach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kailua_Beach#Beach) was amazing. I also learned how to surf at Waikiki which, even in the middle of November was crowded with tourists.

Any of you boys and girls ever had the chance to go? We went on the cheap and it was great. It was really different than I expected. Once you get away from the tourists you pretty quickly find out how warm and inviting the culture is (everyone is 'auntie' or 'uncle'). There is a lot of variety when it comes to the food. For a quick sampling of common Hawaiian fair, Zippy's is a pretty good joint and they're all over the place. And then Leonards for desert. Better if you get fed by friends and family though.

EDIT: Ah... apparently my thread title won't compute. Mods, to the rescue!
EDIT again: Ok got it.
EDIT 3: The Editing: Erm. Maybe not.

They may have already changed it to let you do it yourself if you're fast.

I know I was able to change my own thread tag for the first time recently.

I don't need vacations to far off places. My inner world sustains me.

Interestingly, it seems to have chosen to ignore/fail on the new title even with my edit. So, uh, enjoy your question marks.

I buried my brother in the sand and turned him into a hotdog. Your inner world will be fine on immaculate beaches.

Nah neva (http://nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=36385)

...Hahahaha, we went at like exactly the same week a year removed.

I don't know why that's so funny but it is.

I don't know if that was implied pidgin English but that reminded me - Because my wife had family down there who she hadn't seen in 12 years plus all her family's old friend, we were bombarded by loads of people speaking some degree of pidgin English to us very affectionately. I have this problem where I tend to start adopting the style of speech of those around me very quickly which is easy to hide on the west coast but not so much anywhere else. I really feel like a douche when I do it... it was pretty hard not to reply with 'yeah yeah yeah' or start using phrases like 'talk story' and 'auwe'

I'm going to go with yes.

OH btw did you ever drive up to like, the other end of the island from Waikiki and go to the botanical gardens? That was one of the parts of that trip I really ended up enjoying, it was super-pretty fo' reals.

Aside from that I think anything you do there that isn't lying on a beach / by a pool and lookin' out at the beautiful ocean is pretty much a waste of time.

OH WAIT drinking ridiculously coloured alcoholic beverages, that also counts as time not wasted.

Ah no but we drove up to the North Shore and saw the ranch where they filmed parts of Jurassic Park that entire area was really pretty. Matsumoto Shaved Ice and the like 13 shrimp trucks up there were delicious.

See any raptors? Fuckers love and the tourists who eat them

Duct tape solves all your problems.

Anyways, did you happen to get a chance to visit any of the volcanoes up there? I know this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii_Volcanoes_National_Park) would be something I'd like to check out if I ever go.

No that sounds awesome though! But those are on the big island and we only stayed on Oahu which has, depressingly, no active volcanoes. We will probably do some more exciting things next time we go, this was a pretty easy trip.

Even from the road it is instantly recognizable. Less exciting but we also saw the beach where they filmed LOST and also some areas where they are filming the new Hawaii Five-0.

Totally tangental but man, fuck the new Hawaii Five-O.

That shit is not the show that their theme song promises.

Is it easy to find one of those joints that feature "massage with a happy ending" in that area? Probably isn't too hard to find a brothel on an island, especially if it's part of the tourism industry.

1) Um, wow, creepy dude and also I think vaguely racist.

2) I have no idea as I was not pursuing iillegal activities on my relaxing family vacation. But there was a lot of places to go sing! If you like Karaoke you can try your hand at any number of noraebang places in Honolulu which are pretty fun.

Isn't a family vacation for you just like... you and your wife?

...Not that it makes your response to Earl McCreepyFace any less valid.

We had a real big family, I guess Ohana would be the right word, trip which meant lots of time with my parents and her's. That was also part of the surprise for her!
