I think that I personally will be going the socks and underwear route. I might stop by some other places but maybe I will see what websites have good deals instead becuase man hey fighting with soccer moms for stuff in the early hours of the morning and long lines I don't know if that sounds too fun.

Also, if you work in retail - I'm sorry. :(

Haha. Wow that first sentence was significantly more hilarious when I misread the title as what you're wearing for black friday.

Anyway, DS Lites seem to be going pretty cheap. Might grab one of those if I can, but otherwise just gonna wing it.

Protip (i guess?): Grab as much popular stuff as you can and trade with people in the store for the stuff you actually want.

No Black Friday in Canada, but I just picked up a Samsung E2320X monitor. 23 inches across, 1920x1080, and sexy as hell. $169.99. Beauty.

Ha, you know, if I only do online shopping that may actually be the case!

Ha! Nevermind. I forgot, I don't need to go shopping for games; I live in the future (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=39161)!

I'm geting a totally great deal on Black Friday: buy one sleep until 2pm on Friday, get one I Don't Give A Fuck absolutely free!

I have to work that day, but since it is grocery and not other retail, it should not be that busy.

Yeah, but see, I pretty much get one of those every week.

I'm tempted to abandon my usual take on the matter just because I'm a masochist. I probably won't even buy anything, I just hate feeling joy. Also, it's the one day of the year that store hours coincide with when I'm going to be up anyway, and I almost feel like I have to take advantage of that novelty.

This.

Luckily I get out at 2, so I can make the 4th annual clusterfuck drinking football game.

We pick captains by who has had the most to drink. The team who is collectively most drunk gets the ball first. Every time someone scores a td, other team takes a shot. Field Goals are chug a shot in coke, If you stop someone on 4th down you get to have water.

its... a bad idea. don't do this ever.

As someone who has spent a great deal of time in both Canada and America, I'm 99% sure Canada has a virtually identical holiday called "Boxing Day". It just happens after Christmas instead of after Thanksgiving because Canada is weird and Canadian.

Day after Thanksgiving=Buy a bunch of shit
Day after Christmas=Return a bunch of shit and try to scam money with the gifts you were given.

I don't participate in Black Friday, its too damn early and I could care less about the junk they sell. I have kids, the shopping I can do with my tax return beats anything I can be offered at 5am.

My finacee just got this for her dad. I'm sitting outside Office Max as insurance incase she didn't get it (there's a nice 32" here for a good price), but looks like that was unnecessary. She's 5' tiny; the box is as big as she is. I'm still waiting to hear how she got it into the cart. (In retrospect, the potential hilarity should have occured to us before we chose who went where)

FUCK BLACK FRIDAY.

I wouldn't be caught dead in the consumerist frenzy stores try to generate every fucking year just to see who else might get trampled to death over a fucking blender or whatnot. I hope the owners of businesses who stoop to that shit die in a fire.

Besides, I already did all my Christmas shopping throughout the year. Makes it easier to stand up to the bait.

FUCK BLACK FRIDAY.

Belive me, between the douchebags cutting in line and people literally shoveling valuable items into their cart this was more or less my feeling. However, half off is half off and if there's stuff you need it can be a nice oppurtunity.

My suggestion? Don't shop at huge outlets (Best Buy, Fred Meyers, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) with ungodly-am 'doorbuster' sales. If anything shop at more specific retailers (e.g. we went to Old Navy for clothes and that worked out well - people knew what they wanted and got in and out with very little fuss).

What the hell is black friday? Some sort of ploy to ruin america's economy?

It is a symbol of our rampant consumerism and a dark mirror that encourages our less savory behavior such as dishonesty, entitlment, and also occasionally pushing and shoving in the form of a shopping trip on cocaine.

I'd say supporting America's habit of buying billions of dollars of things they don't need from Communist China, draining America's funds and bolstering theirs, is more communist than not supporting it.

Agreed, I remember Anthony Bourdaine describing it as "the bizarre love child of communism and capitalism". It's like a free market within the confines of their iron-fist government or something to that extent.

And Black Friday was originally American-supporting back when we Americans made everything we bought aside from exotic food.

...when we Americans made everything we bought aside from exotic food.

I know I'll probably burn in hell for this, but that remark right there reminded me of something amusing at one of our local Chinese restaurants the other day. Our waiter came out through the kitchen doors with our order, and do you know what I heard coming from the kitchen? Not notes from a Se, nor a Ruan, Sihu, Paixiao, Xindi, Suona, Paiban, or any other instrument that I could identify as Chinese.

What I did hear: Tubas. Accordions. A few Spanish expletives, followed by "Sana, sana, colita de rana, si no sanas hoy, sanaras manana." Our Chinese food was made by cheap Mexican labor, it's only the front-end help that's Asian. The thought almost knocked me out of my seat with laughter.

On topic, the practices of Black Friday by our corporations are nothing less than deplorable. I wouldn't be bothered by it as much if they didn't constantly stoke the stupidity of the "average American shopper" with their so-called "doorbuster" sales and whatnot, when anyone watching the weekly circulars can plainly see that a lot of times, the customer's getting ripped off. I laughed when I went to the electronics' section of the ad, spotted WalMart's selection of Wii/Xbox 360 games that were "on sale" for $7 apiece, when I noticed those same games in their $5 bargain bin three weeks ago. And the $1 cellular phones (when you buy their recommended calling plans)? Those were the ones that were free with the calling plans three weeks ago. The "bargain" computers are all AMDs with stock onboard graphics processors, the TVs are the models designed to fall apart in a year or so... yeah, I would not, and did not, take part in it.

Man, I just stayed at home all day and did my shopping online. There's absolutely no reason to join those crowds if you know when and where to look on the internet. I snagged one of those red Wiis that comes with NSMBW for about half the price that I paid for my launch model Wii. (I have a white Wii and my brother has a black one, so he and I are gonna split for a red one for my sister, since none of us live together anymore.) In fact, I managed to get all but two gifts of my Christmas shopping done--not too shabby.

Nothing was really on sale this year, unless you were one of those folks who absolutely needed to stand in line for a ticket to get a shitty off-brand television or laptop, I guess.

Sleep was a much greater "purchase".

Granted, I went to bed at 5:00 a.m., so I technically was up in time.

Black Friday is a cacophany of hatred and rage, a black cataract of greed and insanity in which I am usually tempted to kill or maim my fellow man. It is a horror-filled nightmare of a day.

That is to say, I looked at huge online spreadsheet for deals Thursday night, found nothing worth buying, slept in until 11.

EDIT: Also to anyone who actually lives in New York and drove to the stores instead of taking public transportation--WHAT THE--I DON'T EVEN--JESUS CHRIST.

Like 45 minute street delays were on the news, I assume there were at least 20 people shot because of this.

I should literally sell, on black friday, one shirt that says "Sleep until 2 in the afternoon" with which you get another shirt that says "I don't give a fuck" for free.

I heard it, you might have to turn up your speakers.

I grabbed as much stuff online as I could that I knew for a fact was a better deal then some of the 'special offers'. It wasn't much, a DS and a few games for the wife, along with a nice bottle of Nina she had been pining over. I layered a few discounts I had been saving for the holidays on top of the regular deals.

Most of what I grabbed, though, I did on Tue. and Wed. because of all-week deals. Got my friend a new WP7 with my purchase of one 2 days before the deal was offered, score one for the fine print.
