So, i go to my e-mail today and it's requesting another e-mail to send my information for a "safety backup"... So... my E-mail wants an E-mail in case my E-mail gets stolen or "borken" ...
For some reason i gave this more than 2 seconds of thought, and now i have an opinion about it.... weird.
As the freedom of the Internet expands with the Internet itself, we saw all these measures to come alone to try and "regulate" some of the Internets. Not all the Internets, but a few.
Backup E-mails are one of them. The other is those damn "are you human?" letter checks that are everywhere. So, are you with the people that think that those code words are part of a major global conspiracy? What other little safety and "control" you know around?
I like to think that if an alien race saw all the "are you human" checks, they would believe there is an inferior species which lives on the planet and is being oppressed by the humans and not allowed on the internets.
And then they would invade, demanding rights for the oppressed because they're nice aliens, and it would all be a wacky misunderstanding that leads to a global war. =D
That would make a decent sci-fi story. =P

I use an esteemed loved one as my back up because that's what it's usually for, for someone you trust to get you out of the inevitable jam where you've forgotten your email account, or someone hijacks you. You can't change your backup email explicitly, so if someone hijacks you they can't just change your backup, so you've always got a way back in.
But yeah. What will spark the robot revolution will be miscreant twenty second programs being unable to get their addon fix and demanding the end of the captchalog tyranny.

demanding the end of the captchalog tyranny. SIGNS YOU ARE READING TOO MUCH MSPA.
Are there people who actually use multiple e-mail addresses? As in, regularly use multiple, personal e-mail accounts, not counting work e-mails or junk bait?

I use two accounts. One is my primary for important stuff and friends to contact me through while the other is for my accounts on various sites as well as some junk bait (newsletters and the like).
I have a third one that's strictly junk bait.

I have two accounts. Before I had either of them, I had an account at a now-defunct e-mail provider. I lost an account in a MMO because I requested a password reset and all the info went to that first e-mail. It is literally impossible to get that back as 1) the admin doesn't care about anyone anymore and 2) the MMO company is completely uncapable of checking if their e-mails are returning and the guy claiming to be the owner of that account is describing everything in detail.

I also have 2 accounts, one if my Main e-mail for over 6 years now, on mail.com it mainly uses the same Engine as AOL mail, but it's a tad unkown, so it's really low on SPAM. Also, i get to pick what came after the @ symbol, which is kinda cool.
The other one is my Basic Gmail account that i use for everything else, including SPAM baiting
