View Full Version : Snowmageddon 2: Snow Harder

Just got home from an hour commute from work that usually takes 20 minutes. Almost went head-on into a plow, knocked over a street sign, had to use two snow drifts to stop from sliding down a hill, and had to pull over twice to clean my windshield wipers. Farthest I could see in front of the car couldn't have been more than three feet. How is everyone else faring the blizzard?

We haven't had snow over an inch since 1985, so pretty good I guess!

We had a light dusting of snow Christmas day.

The bad stuff usually rampages through here later in January and February. But if the Jet Stream would drop back south, we'd actually get some of this wonderful weather you all up north are dealing with.

Well, this storm is the same one that slammed San Diego, so I should point out that some places in the mountains had 20 feet of snow, and outside of the mountains, between 8 inches to two feet of rain...

Just a little perspective for ya'll.

Bring it on! But stop it by driving time tomorrow, 'cause I'm going skiing.

Seriously, it's not that bad if you've got everything you need.

12-18 inches, 50mph gusts, state of emergency, you all suck. We had something like that in Sweden, according to the news. I mean, it was all over the television, 400 people were trapped on a train on xmas eve and stuff. I know one guy who was delayed 6 hours on a 12 hour trip from the south. The bus drivers refused to drive and the train company urged people to stay at home. Especially on the 26th, because it's the single busiest travel day of the year. According to the news, the country couldn't have been more deeply petrified if the ice age hyperblizzard from Day After Tomorrow had struck, and they had pictures of snowstorms violent enough to make you believe it.

So of course I went on a 150 km bus trip on the 26th. It was indeed pretty busy, they had to get an extra bus to take all the passengers. But there was not a single minute of delay.

In conclusion, you got to laugh at those soft wee Southerners.

Oh, so we are soft cause we are smart enough to live in a place where this kind of snow doesn't happen?

But living where I do has it's drawbacks... Tornadoes and Lightning Storms with 90 Mph wind come to mind.

We actually had snow in South Carolina, several inches of the stuff yesterday. Of course the whole state panicked. I had not watched any weather reports on Christmas, so I was completely surprised the following morning. It reminded me of Ohio throughout the morning.

I hear about stuff like that from a Swedish friend all the time. But yeah, I got hit hard enough by the snow that everything is closed down. And I didn't know about the coming storm until Christmas. Woops, guess I'm not eating much for a little while!

I still want snow dammit. All we got recently in Arkansas is killer tornadoes that hit less than 10 miles from where I live and massive bird (http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/01/02/arkansas.falling.birds/index.html?hpt=T2) and fish (http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/01/02/arkansas.fish.kill/index.html?iref=NS1) kills.

I am currently under a heated blanket. I picked my sister up from the airport before the snow hit. We have good food, coffee, hot chocolate and lots of booze. My ambulance rotation has been canceled tomorrow. We have Gamecube and N64 with all the Mario Parties and Karts and I just got the new Kingdom Hearts for my DS.

Ah, the ignorance of being a Transplant. ^_^ How nice it must be to live in your world PCD. No offense meant. You had the luck of not living with the stuff for years on end. I've had too.

Yeah, most everyone I've spoken to so far is pretty jaded about it and not looking forward to relying on college food for the next couple days. I'll probably get sick of it fast enough (guess who didn't remember to buy snow boots?) but I figure I'll squeeze the fun out of my ignorance while I can.

EDIT: Okay guys, I've done the preliminary tests, and it turns out that snow proves to have an extremely high turnout in frolicability. I might have to check a couple more times to be sure.

Classes FINALLY started back up today at USC (S. Caroline, not Souther Cal). Which was kind of a pain in the butt cause all the primary school districts were still closed in all the surrounding counties. Also, I did do some driving in the stuff on monday when it was the least safe to be on the roads, and I must say, going out to a large empty parking lot and doing donuts is the MOST fun you can have in a car during a storm like this in South Carolina. I really hope this happens more often.

So, anyone heard about this huge snowstorm covering about 1200 miles from the plains to the northeast we're supposed to be getting? Estimates are anywhere from 3 to 33 inches of snow for anyone in the middle of it. For my area it looks like we're getting 3-6 followed by an inch of ice. On the news they're talking about entire states having to close down because of it.

Snow? Well, there's always a good 10-20 inch blanket of snow here in Montreal. Having a storm usually brings it up to 3 feet. On very very rare occasions there can be up to 6-8 feet of snow (like 2 years ago) or barely any snow at all during the entire winter season (like last winter). This year I'd qualify as a ''normal'' year snow wise, but cold? Holy crap! It's been somewhere around -25C and -30C for almost two weeks now...

Summer, please come back soon...

Everything was canceled/closed yesterday which was actually nice because the bus wasn't crowded with university students. I didn't have to stand for once! Also I got off work early, which is cool but also not cool because I'm lazy but also need money.

As far as snowstorms go it wasn't that bad though. Well, maybe it's bad for the GTA but I've seen worse when I lived in the Barrie area.

Well this is the third day the ice has been on my lawn and the first time I have ever had the rest of the week off of school due to ice.
Not snow mind you ice. as in Freezing rain. FUCK! FREEZING! RAIN! Stupid humidity causing snowflakes to become overburdened with water making it fall as rain and freeze on contact with anything that isn't wood or flesh. thankfuly were in for Real snow tomorrow and if the weather stays like this another week off of school. for in a feat of irony most fowl, the some of the sand trucks down here slid on the ice they where trying to prevent and wrecked.
Personally I am blaming d'em Yankees coming down here for the Superbowl for the weather.

The weather is terrible here but my school will not cancel for anything, even though everything else is closing around us. Heck, it was illegal to drive in the next county over, but we still had to get to class. There have been lots of angry letters written to the newspaper, I guess quite a few people have broken things from slipping on the ice.

my old school district was the same way. at one time the police wrote a ticket on the school for "endangerment" they got the charge dropped but still. then there was one time the principal called off a snow day and then had someone sliped on the ice wrecked into her parked car!

We got hit by a storm two days ago, we're at a nice 3 feet now. I really don't mind it, since I have no car and no driveway, there's no need for me to shovel. Although, I did have a gig the night of said storm in a fancy shmancy hotel, and I had to walk through the storm (littlerally) since the sidewalks from the metro station to my place had not yet been cleared. So, you can imagine me with a 25 sax on my back, my clothes bag with my dress in it, my purse and another bag with my music stand, sax stand, charts and small percussive instruments, walking through 3 feet of snow...I felt like a sherpa. Actually, I had to walk directly on the road at some points, since it was cleared out and [I]safer[I] to walk on than the side walks.

The next day though was a clear and sunny day, so I got to see the results of the storm, and it was so purdy...
