A friend of mine posted this on Facebook.

There's a site called Spokeo.com that's a new online USA phone book w/ personal information:everything from pics you've posted on FB or web, your approx credit score, home value, income, age, etc. You can remove yourself by first searching for yourself on their site to find the URL of your page, then going to the"Privacy"button on the bottom of their home page to remove yourself. (Copy & repost so people are aware)

I'm still busy removing my mom and dad from their directory. They're both listed two or three times in each of the addresses they've lived at. Didn't find myself, but I know people who have. Just something I thought I should give everyone a heads up about.

Okay, what the fuck. We lived in the US over a decade ago, and they still have info on us.

I know this is just a search engine, it just compiles shit, but what the fuck. You can see a complete stranger's credit card info for 2.99$ a month, or something. That is not a good thing.

And you can search for usernames as well. Goody goody.

man, you know, I had a sort of a freak out over this until I used it...

They don't have the right information for me, for my parents, for my grandmother, my sister is unlisted and it has apparently never heard of my wife at all.

Apparently, I'm in my late 50s and still live in the boonies.

I tried three different permutations of my name and found nothing.

I found my mom and dad, but I don't understand the instructions on how to remove them. Where's the "privacy" button located?

Home page, there's a row of links at the bottom.
Or, y'know what, here:

That's creepy, fortunately all they can get out of me is my photobucket account.

It's nice I can find myself on something, I'm kinda invisible to google, at least my actual name is. Also, creepy.

I am thankfully unlisted, but there appears to be someone unrelated to me, but nonetheless sharing my name, within thirty miles of my location.

What are the odds?

Hah, apparently I earn $242,000 a year. I'd like to know where all that money is, since I don't even make 10% of that amount. :B

What are the odds? :rolleyes:Considering I've never even been to Lynn, MA, much less lived there at any point in my lifetime, nor am I related to any of the people the site lists as relatives?

I'd say it's not me.

I'm not listed, and neither is my immediate family. That's a relief.

With access to a car 60 miles could be covered in your sleep with lots of time left over.
Just saying.

Yeah, didn't find myself, so, I'm happy.

I'm apparently married. And I pull up separate results for PyrosNine and for my actual name.

But yeah. creepy. It aggregates every single bit of data attached to a name from anywhere, right down to housing information.

Creepy! I can imagine how this could be abused, and then some!

There's one of those living in my hometown!

It doesn't have my name anywhere... but it does have my internet stuff. But it's funny that it has my name on something I don't use... but not my YouTube account.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. My whole family was on there. And either they listed my dad's salary wrong, or he's been making a lot more money than he's been letting on. Hm...

I just removed myself, my mom, and my grandparents. My brother wasn't listed. I'll be emailing my dad so he can send word on to his side of the family. This quite frankly terrifies me. Aggregate data gets downright scary when you compile it.

All it has is a list of sites that I already advertise through my Sig.

I'm good.

Kinda creepy yet pretty neat too.

Thanks for sharing this, I have a unique name and searching for my name on google alone brings up a few pages of information on me (mostly my facebook and old news article clippings).

This thing brought up my old (parent's) home address, phone number, and list of relatives. The rest of the information (tax, credit, income, etc.) looks to be wrong.

God, another one of these information aggregator site panics.

It's nothing to worry about. Don't bother taking yourself off.

+1 to that

At best you are removing one page that lists information that otherwise might take interested parties some manner of minutes longer to find.

Plus the site isn't very great at correctly matching names to what it finds/its operators find on the Internet. The amount of errors I found for people I know and family members, especially the number for myself, outweighed any fear of this site.

I think I found myself at an old address from when I was like 6 years old or something.

But it says I make 96k a year. That'd be awesome.

Hey, even if you tell them to take your info off spokeo, all that info is out there in the many pages they got it from. Wouldn't it be better to ignore that site? If anyone wanted the same info, they would just have to check the same sites that you can see at spokeo. But, if you ask spokeo to take your info off, they'll have BOTH your info, a working e-mail address (SPAM anyone) AND the certainty that at least some of the info they had on you, is correct. The last part, I think is the most dangerous one.
