NO WHINING I guess you can if you want.

Anyway I love looking at dorky Valentines stuff so http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/026/8/c/mgs2_valentines_by_almightyramtha-d36te2f.jpg

So I figured we could have a general Valentines day discussion kind of thread. Share dorky valentines, tell stories, did anyone do nice things for you, did you go out and get drunk, whatever.

A story: For one year my lover and I did cheesy Valentine's day stuff every single day except on Valentine's day. It was fun.

Endeavor to cherish each other unequivocally!

PS. Them's some cute cards dere.

My guyfriend and I are going to Fisherman's Wharf for lunch, and checking some other stuff out. I forget what. It's his plan. I honestly didn't even realize it was going to be on Valentine's until someone else pointed it out. I can't figure if he's thinking of it as a Valentine's date or just a regular date, and if I should do anything special for it.

That reminds me of that old SNL bit with Rachel Dracht and Will Ferrel.

I heard one time the gift hierarchy for women goes like this:

Shiny
Tasty
Pretty

Girlfriend is not fond of any of the generic idealisms of Valentines: cut flowers are murder and worthless to her because they die, she has ample jewellery and hates when I buy her more, and all the candies are either high in fat/sugars or have gelatin which she refuses to eat.

So I got her a toy well from Schliech and bought her minecraft. This was apparently a good gift choice as she's been nose deep in her laptop playing minecraft for the last 3 days.

****************

I'm going out today to help my friend plan a romantic evening with his girlfriend. They've been together for 4 months and he's going all-out; Tablecloth, Candles, Flowers, cooking dinner, and chasing everyone out of the apartment. [All the upstairs roommates are going to be downstairs at my place now. :(] This morning, we're picking up wine to go with that dinner, and I put together a mix CD of music for the event.

And my girlfriend stopped me from putting Sir Mixalot's I like big butts on the CD which kind of ruined my fun.

Well it's a bit late to plan anything, but I would say don't let that stop you. Do something simple; get his favorite desert ready and have that at your place after dinner, get a quick gift that you know he'll like, the key is just to go the extra mile cause he's your special someone.

OOH, OOH, make him a mix tape! That always worked in like...the 80s?

My lady and I did Valentines on Saturday, rather than the actual monday. Didn't do much, exchanged some gifts, saw the most romantic film currently playing at the cinema, The Fighter, and then watched Take Me Out, where one man attempted to seduce thirty ladies by dressing up in drag.

It's now Valentines, and we're doing what we do every monday: Going to lectures and sleeping.

In Finland Valentine's day has transformed into day about friendship. People remember their friends and stuff like that.

It's little bit easier to singles to handle this day, you see. Lonely people on other hand...

Nah if SMB was doing it he would also be playing two wildly different charcterers-on one side of town I'm Dr Lance Carlson, brilliant neuroscience, fire brigade volunteer, homeless shelter operator but prone to periods of moody introspection, violent alcoholism and hiding a terrible secret but at the other date I'm Heman Krakonuts, an impulsive free-spirit, prone to gambling and obscure films, but with a longing for love after too long drifting through the amorous seas of anarchic affairs.

Edit: Now trying to work out which of these two is most dateable as it were.

Saturday I bought my girlfriend a sea-foam green rose, dipped in lacquer, and gilded in twenty four karat gold. She was very pleased.

Today more flowers will be arriving at her workplace. She will be pleased again.

As for me, this is just another day, as it always is, was and shall ever be. It's not even mildly dissapointing any more.

Thing is we haven't been going out for very long at all. I mean, I've hardly been living in the area a month, you know? I don't know his favorite desert or anything like that.

Then you probably don't have much to worry about, just going out to dinner should be fine. If you want to do something special, do it. The key is to do something that would let him see a little bit more of you, and show that you do understand him. Or at the very least that you tried, and if it doesn't turn out great just have a laugh about it.

Just to give an example that kinda fits. My last girl-friend and I had been dating around a month and a half and found out our birthdays were on the same day and coming up. So I told her I'd get her a present without knowing what I'd get, I like doing that kinda stuff. Well we'd been talking a while back and I found out she enjoyed baking cakes as kind of a hobby, but since we were both in college her oven was gas and didn't have a thermometer so she never used it. What did I get her then? An in oven thermometer and some oven mitts since she had the pans already. Wrapped it in newspaper as a joke since she said she didn't want me going all out or anything, but she loved it and I even got a cake out of it on our birthday. Her best friend even said it was a great idea when my girl-friend told her about it later on.

So yeah, you don't have to do anything big. Fuel a hobby with a gift, or even get a gift card and say you want to go shopping together to get to know him a little better. OR, you perfectly fine just going out to dinner at this point. Like I said, the key is if you want to do something, do it; otherwise don't worry about it and just enjoy each other's company.

Last night I took my fiancee to the hospital for Valentines Day. She's either got food poisoning, or some nasty horrible bug that's causing painful nausea, and rendering her unable to keep any liquids down at all.

Up till Friday, the plan was for her to be traveling for work this week anyway, so my plan was going to be sending flowers to her hotel room and writing her a cheesy email... possibly could still do that.

...I have like, the worst imaginable luck on Valentine's Day.

...I'm reasonably certain that the answer to this conundrum is that my ancestors were cursed by an ancient Inca artifact abandoned in the Amazon. I am now going to lead an expedition into Brazil to uncover this artifact, destroy it, and dissolve its power over me. If anyone's down, you can join me for the misadventure.

I'm game. I've always been fascinated by Mesoamerican and other Pre-Columbian cultures. Plus if we happen to run into a lost world untouched by the forces of time where strange prehistoric beasts roam steamy plateaus and volcanic highlands, I'm fluent in both Tyrannosaur and Raptoran.

Unless the extra cash is for something that requires good art. Can't do that just yet.

...I would not be able to afford, nor would I think it'd be worthwhile in the context of an NPF members comic, to pay for very good art. Looking for something better than stick figure sketches, certainly, as I could do those myself, but...

...well, we can take it over PM, possibly.

Wait, what does this have to do with Valentine's Day? It's too late for a date with Chie, Solid.

Not if your inbox is full, we can't.

Ah, crap, I forgot I had to delete a few of those. >.>
...Should be okay now, though.

Anyway, now that I've thoroughly derailed CJ's topic: the idea is that I, with the help of Nikose and Bobbey, would be writing an Uncharted, Indiana Jones style NPF webcomic in which a team of "good guys" (including me, Nikose, Bobbey, and others) would attempt to find and destroy an ancient artifact responsible for cursing my ancestors. A team of "bad guys" would compete with them. Forum gags would be interlaced throughout the misadventures, and we'd all be egregious over-the-top caricatures of ourselves.

...Of course I intend to flesh this out much more thoroughly, but the idea is that I'd commission as money became available, it'd subsequently take a long while to finish, and because the art quality wouldn't be anything near Speroni level, it shouldn't cost nearly as much. Really if it did cost substantial amounts of money, it wouldn't be worth it. Subsequently, I suppose the artist involved would have to derive at least some pleasure from the combination of improving his/her craft and working on drawing insane fantasy variations of NPF forumites.

Really, it's the kind of thing where, if you're a halfway decent artist who'd enjoy drawing NPF forumite stuff for free in your spare time, and a little bit of money would just sweeten the deal for you, then it's worth it. If on the other hand you are a great artist who really should be drawing a professional webcomic or doing something more exciting with your life, it isn't.

My hope -- this is the most optimistic and unrealistic projection -- is that the webcomic becomes "popular" enough in the context of NPF readership that a few others might consider helping to donate minor sums to aid in its progression...assuming that I remain the sole financial sponsor, the updates would just take a bit longer to materialize.

...Really, that's it. Nothing special. It was an idea that came to me as I was sulking over Valentine's Day, and if nothing else, it certainly cheered me out of a nasty funk.

EDIT: I don't know why the hell "rep me!" appeared there, but whatever.

EDIT 2: As a rule, your permission would be required before I actually utilized a character based on you in the webcomic, so no worries there.

Yes we are, we're bringing it back by force of will!!!

Well, here's how I've always looked at it. I'm not Jewish, so I do not celebrate Hannukah. I'm not in a relationship, so why would I celebrate Valentine's Day? Regardless, there was a little bit of an event made: Mah bros and I went to a sports bar and got their Valentine's Day special.
