I liked the early ensemble feel where it felt like the writers had an endless array of characters to flit in and out each week on a slowly developing background, each character but a small spark in the unfolding tapestry. Very realism, very Balzac. Lately it seems to have gone sitcom route with a few staple characters and the wacky situations they and their friends get up to.
