I know I put up a costume thread every now and then depicting whatever craziness I'm working on lately, but so far my costumes have all been pretty simple from premade parts with small modifications. This time, however, I'm going BOLD. I'm working on a Doctor Stein cosplay for which I need to make a lab coat. I think this is an appropriate costume to help learn with, since the whole point is that the stitching should look like utter shit.

Anyways, my girlfriend has graciously offered to help me with the costume, but says that first I need a pattern for the lab coat. I have no idea what a lab coat pattern even looks like, much less where to find one. Can anyone help me out?

But, you can just buy a lab coat at a uniform supply store. Buy one, undo the stitching, then sew it back up, Stein-style.

Really, I'd be more worried about pulling off the head screw.

Funds are always kind of a problem for me when making costumes, so I'll be lucky if I can even get together enough for the materials to make a coat. Unless it is absurdly cheap, a uniform supply store won't really be an option.

I buy my lab coats at my university bookstore for $20.

Actually, the local college's store is a place I had not even considered looking for labcoats. I might hop on over there and see what they've got.
