When I first saw this story on the news, I wondered "How the fuck could they have screwed THAT up?" But looking into it some more, and finding the above link, it helped explain what happoned.

Which begs the question: why the hell do you keep an alcoholic beverage and apple juice in identical bottles? If you ask me, that should be a big red flag for this EXACT situation. Especally since it has happoned before, back in 2007.

That incident came just a year after Seth Pereles, a five-year-old from New York City, was given a Long Island iced tea when he too ordered an apple juice at a local Applebee's. Bullshit. There's no way a server would, when asked for apple juice, pour five different liquors in a glass and then go to the soda fountain for a shot of Coke. Add on the "lol stupid Americans and their teen pregnancies" thing and the whole article smells like baseless shock journalism to generate hits.

I don't think it's bullshit. (http://www.10news.com/news/5954829/detail.html)

Alcohol gives off a unique smell. I find it hard to believe they couldn't tell the bottles apart.

Surely you can tell the diffference between a long island and apple juice by looking at it? Surely the mother would be like "that isn't apple juice"

I'm willing to bet that in the Margartia incidents, they just grabbed the bottle without even thinking. And if you've been in a kitchen of a restarunt, your sense of smell gets a wide verity of scents all at once, some of which are quite strong.

And keep in mind, it's in a sippy cup. Which is opeque. And has a lid on it.

Wait a sec.

Hold on.

This is great.

Check this out: go to Applebee's, and order apple juice. Cheapest bar-drinking ever.

Edit: Maybe wear overalls or light-up sneakers.

Pereles did not realize her son was a concoction of white rum, gin, vodka, triple sec, coke and sweet-and-sour mix until it was too late.

I didn't realize you could have kids made of alcohol either.

Strange. Could have sworn the recipe was gin, vodka, scotch, triple sec, cola, and sour.

Looking at Wiki, there's like 8 different varations of a Long Island Iced Tea.
