People of NPF, answer my query!!

I recently got a new scar, or at least I received a flesh wound which will eventually turn into a scar. My hockey seasons are now over, so the guys on my team and I rented a rink for one last game of shinny. So we go out there, we're playing 4 on 4, we're having a good time. Normally I wear a cage over my helmet, but because we weren't in league I took it off, and instead slapped on a visor and popped in my mouthguard. We're goofing around, and I decide to try to go end-to-end, losing the puck and I'm coming back in a half-assed attempt to stop the breakaway. Simultaneously, I put my stick around his skates as a "Ha ha I'm going to trip you," my other friend pushes me from behind for I don't know fucking why. The friend of front steps on my stick, biffs it epicly as I fall forward and boom I get kicked in the face.

I get up, and I think I actually said "Ah! You just kicked my face!" and then realized that everyone was staring at me. Then I get the burn, look down and notice blood dripping on to the ice. Inch long gash along my chin, 5 stitches to close. This is the first scar I've gotten since I was 10, and it's totally going to ruin my baby-faced boyish handsomeness. Apparently my first scar, just under my nose, was as a baby from picking at chicken pox too much. Otherwise I'm mostly scar free.

How about you, bold NPFers? What was your first scar? How did you get it? Any notable ones since?

I believe I've shown the scar on my right leg once before. It's so grotesque that the mere length of it puts people in awe.

It's a constant reminder that kids can do really stupid things.

Don't remember my first one... got two on my face from a car crash I was involved in, along with one on my chest from surgery, and two on my left leg when I stabbed myself with something and didn't notice it, one near my knee and the other on the back of my ankle.

Inside of my upper lip. Pretty unnoticeable, I think.

Happened in warmups for a baseball game. Best friend jumped in front of me when a ball was thrown my way, then jumped back out of the way when the ball was half of a foot in front of my face. I expected him to catch it. He did not.

There was a decent amount of bleeding, since I nearly bit my upper lip off when the baseball hit me. Needless to say, I was very unhappy for the rest of the game (at least the bleeding stopped so I could play).

No scars since... that I know of.

I've got a couple of scars on my hands from wood carving and one on my knee from a bicycle accident a couple years ago where I ripped a chunk of skin off of my knee. I also got one on my elbow from something or other and a rather small one (I swear it's been shrinking or something) on my upper lip from having my face smashed into the ground during a fight.

Went through a window when I was four, had about fifty stitches - back, neck, arm and armpit.

One right above my upper lip, dead center, perfectly horizontal, and a little over a centimeter long. When I was three or four I ran into the corner of a side table while recklessly running around the house for some reason.

Two on my right knee, though it actually looks like a single scar now. Both were from falling while roller-blading. Both falls took a chunk of skin off my knee. The first happened near my house, and hurt like hell. The second time was when a friend and I were going to rent a game, but I didn't feel a thing. So he went to rent the game and I went to the nearby Mac's (a convenience store chain in Canada) to ask for a band-aid. Freaked the hell out of the girl working there with all the blood down my leg :D.

The fingers on my right hand have a few scars from when a dog bit me.

And the latest additions are two straight scars on my right palm. One's about two centimeters and the other is about a centimeter and a half. Got those when my cat (who has a knack for knowing the best way to scare/freak out people) started bothering my mom's friend. He also gets really edgy when there are people he doesn't know in the house. So when I went to pick him up and get him away from my mom's friend, out come the back claws and slice goes my hand.

e- Oh and my lower lip has a scar as well, though it's not noticeable since it's actually on my lip. That one happened in gym class playing soccer when the girl in front of me trips on the ball, falls forward, throws out her foot for balance or something and kicks me smack in the face, making me bite my lip and split it open. Went to the office, they thought I would need stitches so they called my dad. He looked at it, said I'd be fine and that they wouldn't be able to stitch it anyway, and I went home early

That's not a tear (http://www.nuklearforums.com/member.php?u=2894) on my cheek. A guy did that with a fingernail because he was convulsing. He may or may not have been convulsing because we had a fight where I did naughty things to him. (Which in that case he probably had coming.)

One on my calf from a tick bite that got infected or something when I was 11ish, and another in the middle of my forehead from when I was a baby (apparently I'd just learned to run because I was darting all over the house and ran straight into a bookcase).

Mental scarring is the only scarring I've ever picked up. I tend to be overly cautious in life when it comes to physical harm. I.e. I don't DO that sorta stuff. My brother is a bit more outgoing than me but still hasn't harmed himself to such an extent.

But trust me, the mental scarring is all I ever need.

I've got one scar just above the knuckle of my pinkie on the right hand. It's from a fight.
Punched the guy in the mouth. Guy wears braces. Didn't notice my hand was (barely) bleeding until my glove was stuck to the wound. (it was winter-time)

There's another one that feels like a scar, and it's on my left shoulder. However, I have no idea how or why it should be there. And it's not something you can see, so I'm kinda puzzled if it's even a scar, but it's stiff, scar-like tissue so unless it starts doing weird things I'm going to count it as a scar.

Other than that, I've got emotional scars. Those are the worst.

I've had this cute little white scar on the back of my right thumb since... I can't remember how long. I've got a similar one under my lower lip, but that was from a bad habit of chewing on the poor thing. The hair there always grows white now, too, which is weird.

Also had this odd white mark on my right arm for the longest time after this one time I went swimming in a lake, but I can't remember what caused it.

Beyond that, no scars even from things I'd totally expect scars from. Lucky me, I guess.

I have a couple.

There's a tiny one on my forehead. Got it when I was 3, according to my parents. Still not quite sure how.

There's a five-inch scar on my right leg, running along the inside right around my knee. Gashed that open on a broken glass coffee table.

And a 1-inch on my left thigh from a knife wound when someone tried to mug me in Everett along Casino road back in '97.

A tiny one in the center of my left palm from when I put my hand down on a nail that happened to be sticking out of a prop in high school drama class.

And a small one on my right hand, middle knuckle, from my sister's stupid fingernail.

Got on at this place (http://www.helsinki.fi/fi/images/5tEO2OEyj/5xBL2HJ9B/Files/CurrentFile/stadikka.jpg). It was night though and the place was closed. But as is customary when drunk, me and my friends decided to got swimming anyway. For this you have to clime the fence. It's a regular fence (http://www.mustknowhow.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Chain-link-fence-posts1.jpg) but higher than that obviosly. So I was climng in a second time after being thrown out once by the security guard and when I have my left hand up all the way trying to pull the rest of me to the top I slip. And I get a nice big wound in my left hand since I was still trying to hold on to the top of the fence. The wound was about like 7-10cm and the scar is about 5-7cm.

I have a few scars, one of them isn't very noticable though.

I was two years old, it was winter, and I spotted an ice patch near the house. I think to myself ''What happens when you run on ice?'' and then I go for it. At first everything seems okay, but then, of course, I fall to my face, biting my lower lip, which causes a huge amount of the snow in front of me to become red-stained. Today, I still have this weird ''nipple'' scar inside of my lower lip. It's kinda ironic though, since it helps me play the sax today.

Later in life, maybe 3 years ago, I was sleeping in bed when what I think is a spider or any other insect bit me just under my right eye, causing it to swell for a couple days. The scar is barely visible now.

My most recent scar happened while I was doing the dishes about 2 years ago. I was cleaning a glass by putting my entire fist in it with a cloth ad spining it back ad forth to clean the bottom (I have rather small hands) when it popped and broke right while I was spining. The result: I digged a circle shapped wound that went as deep as my bone right over my right thumb knuckle. Luckily, I was able to ''re-patch'' it, but unfortunately, when I went to the clinic later, they told me I couldn't get any stitches done because the wound was too weird. So I waited it out for about 3 weeks until the skin healed. Feels weird today, because when I scratch it I barely feel anything on that spot.

I have one just under my bottom lip. Once, when I were a small childrens, I bit through my lip when I was jumping on the bed and very suddenly landed not on the bed.

I have two scars - well, technically, three - one on my right shoulder, because one day I stayed too much in the sun and apparently scratching my shoulder scarred it. It's like, a cm long. Then, on my foot I have two tiny scars - I was around 12, I think, I was running around barefoot and there were some planks on the yard, which we used as pathways so we didn't step on the soil...One had a barb on it, which entered - and nearly exited - the "ball" of the foot.

Aside from these, most of the cuts I've gotten haven't managed to be so severe - stuff like cutting my finger by accident and only stopping because of the nail and such.

I have so many. ._.

My most noticeable ones are on my left shoulder from when a flat/shell broke and slammed shut on me during musical practice (and a corresponding one on my chest from where I slammed into the bottom riser when I fell). Don't really want to go into the others, since most of them are from stupid shit.

About eight years ago, when I was 14, I was cycling through the local forest, Alice Holt. The tracks there are mostly gravelled, and I was freewheeling down a hill. About 3/4s the way down a dog came darting out the woods, so I slammed on the brakes. Sailed straight over the handlebars, slid down the hill a bit, gouged my left elbow open and got a lot of gravel lodged in my elbow. Limped back home and got taken to a hospital, where I had each little bit of gravel that had embedded itself into my flesh plucked out with tweezers, before being bandaged up.

Now my elbow is just splodges of ugly purple fleshy bits where the tissue grew back. The skin also flaps loose when I hold my arm straight.

I also have a large scar down.... there... where I had a kidney operation when I was 8months old. Nobody's ever had the chance to see it, though.

You can't see it anymore because of my beard, but there's a little dent on my cheek from where someone stabbed me clear through. I used to have one on my stomach from where I was almost impaled in a bike accident, but after about six years, that one cleared up.

I've got little ones here and there, but I don't usually pay them much mind. I run and leap and climb around a lot, so one single silly thing I did isn't very memorable. It's actually pretty surprising that I've never broken anything.

When I was a child, I once jumped off a shed and landed on a rake I hadn't noticed. In true cartoon fashion, I got smacked in the face. Unlike in cartoons, however, the impact drove my front lower teeth through the bottom part of my lower lip, and I now have an almost-birdshaped scar there.

I've got a scar on my left leg from surgery where a growth declared potentially hazardous was removed. Hair has rendered it nearly invisible now, though.

I've got a half-centimeter, circular scar from when I tore a small chunk of my right arm open on an exposed nail in a lake dock.

Also, a fair number of little scratch scars and the like from cats.

My first notable scar ever was when I was about 10. I was riding my bike down my old street and, due to being a clumsy foolish kid, somehow slipped, getting my calf caught in the still moving bike chain. It took 8 or 9 decent chunks out, but was surprisingly painless! It left a scar for years but it's mostly gone now.

My latest scar is actually a decent burn, and god damn it, I wish I had it for a good reason. It's a nearly 2 inch long burn scar on my arm, and from what? I was taking a goose out of the oven and touched the inside of the oven briefly.

The goose was delicious, but not worth a probably permanent arm scar.

I have the coolest scar ever; it's on my freaking eye! Not on my face near my eye, I mean actually on the surface of my eyeball, right over the iris. Apparantly it probably happened during birth somehow. You can only see it in really close up photograths of my eye though.

And, boringly, I also have one from when I had my appendix out, but judging by this thread that's probably about the only normal one out of everyone here. Seriously you all have gotten into some serious scrapes.

The varying lengths of the posts on this thread is fascinating.

The only scar I have is a faint one on my forehead (hidden by my hair now) that I got at 4 years old when I tripped and hit my head on a rock at an airport. I think it needed stitches or something.

I also laugh at POS for losing his hair because I can, see any picture in the camwhore thread.

The notable ones:

I have a bunch of scars from my biggest lung surgery. They didn't really heal properly (thank you connective tissue disorder), so I've got one scar the size and shape of a nickel just below my right shoulder blade (I like to tell people it's a gunshot wound), and three gashes between the ribs on my right side.

I have a little scar on my left leg because I tripped over an open drawer someone didn't close. The little metal slide-rail-thing sliced through the fabric of my jeans and took a nice chunk out of my shin.

I have a centimeter-long scar on the tip of my chin from when I was in the fourth grade and faceplanted on a concrete ramp in the playground.

Also there's a scar across the end of my pinky finger from when I accidentally cut it open with a bread knife. Apparently having a conversation with someone on the other side of the room while simultaneously slicing a bagel you're holding in your hand is a bad idea.

I am graceful and skilled.

I've got two big ones on my left wrist, one right over the other. They're both about the same size, but people rarely notice one of them because the other is this huge, puffy, pink mass of scar tissue that creeps them the hell out. I got them when I was like eleven years old, falling off my scooter, and when I first got them the puffy one was a lot bigger. I could pinch the sides and it would look like a shrimp! It was awesome. My dad wanted me to get it surgically removed but I did and still do think that's a stupid idea.

It happens to be in the exact place where a watch might sit on my wrist, and I also happen to be one of the few people left who still wears a wristwatch, so I can easily cover it up if I don't actively feel like grossing people out with it.

I have a few noticeable scars on my body.

One x shaped scar on my index finger knuckle where I was playing with a very sharp knife and cut myself on top of an older scar that I have had for as long as I can remember. This happened when I was in 3rd grade.

One dimple on my face where a friend of mine got pissed at me and hit me in the face with a stick. This happened when I was about four.

One straight scar on my knee where I accidentally knocked a propped open window closed and it slammed down breaking the glass. The glass hit me in the knee and cut me through my pants, without cutting the pants.

A large ugly scar on my shoulder where I was pushed into a broad headed nail sticking out of a wall. It gouged a quarter inch wide, 1/8th of an inch deep cut in me. Strangely it didn't hurt nor bleed for about 3 hours. Then it was a bloody and painful mess.

I have a scar on my foot that would make a kickass bamf scar if it were across my eye. I got it from a spring sticking out of my mattress.

I have a scar along the bridge of my nose and under my right eye where I was bitten by a dog. Specifically, my dog. I was taking care of my sister's chihuahua and he was pestering my dog, who is a dachshund. I was laying down on my bed. My dog snapped at the pest, but he jumped out of the way and he ended up biting me in the face. Ouch.

Only really have two scars that I notice.

The more impressive one is from when I was a little kid. Somehow when we were driving home from a vacation, I managed to get my leg under the seat in front of me, and when I pulled my leg back, it got cut a wire under the chair. It's about 4-5 inches long.

The other one is just below my wrist from when I sliced it on the bolt that holds the security-tag remover at work. Only about a 1/2 inch long, but it's new enough that I still notice it now and again.

My scar collection is weak...but honestly, I think I'm okay with that.

EDIT:

So it turns out that unlicensed TRON disks (they're not mine, I have a friend who loves it) can be really hard, and subsequently really painful when one tosses them to a friend only to have the wind catch them and bring them right back into one's face, literally. Fortunately, it hit my eyebrow, which pretty effectively hides the damage, but it's pretty lame that the wind and gravity teamed up to scar me for life.

The most noticable scars I have are a few boring chicken pox scars. The only interesting things about them is that the two on my face are almost perfectly symmetrical. No, that is not a joke.

Outside of those, I have a scar roughly an inch and a half long in the middle of my left foot from where I stepped on a toy plane (although I am apparently made of kudzu because my foot tried to devour the stitches, and to hell with the fact that they were not the sort to be left in forever).

I thought I had some scars where I got a second-degree burn on my finger from a lightbulb and got my lower arm caught on my dog's canines (I was being a flail-y dumbass, as usual), but apparently they're gone now.

Like I said: MADE. OF. KUDZU. Which would explain why I'm not a scarred mess with multiple broken bones stuck in a wheelchair despite constantly injuring myself in amusing-during-reminescing ways.

Scar on the back of ring finger on right hand where I attempted to catch a knife and failed.

Scar on front of ring finger on right hand where knife came out.

Scar on back of left hand from small cut that I kept scratching at.

Scar on shoulder blade, right side, entry burn from pellet gun.

Scar on forehead from strange infection. [cleared up on own.]

Scar tissue on left forearm, from elbow to wrist, outside, where I experienced a strange blackening of the tissue and watched it fall off. Doctor discounted it as an allergy. Eventually cleared up after 6-8 weeks. Difficult to determine exact size of scar. Rather well blended into the rest of my arm now.

Similar issue on left shin, outside left. Doctor claimed scraping from a pine shaving in my boot caused it while working. Eventually healed again.

Jaw, Bottom, Below non-existent cleft. Fell on something sharp as a child, cut myself. Beard hair conspicuously absent when mid-growth. Hidden fully in long growth.

Forehead, center. Fell while running in a church. Split open forehead, knocked front gums into disalignment, chipped tooth. [tooth repaired.]

edit: I have more scars then I anticipated. Thank you, this post, for helping me locate them all.

I am graceful and skilled.

I have a scar on my thumb where I sheared off a flap of skin while I was slicing a bagel. Why must they be so cruel...yet so delicious?

I also have a kind of cool-looking one on my left hand, below my thumb, from where a cat accidentally scratched me, and a set of similar scratches on my chest and shoulder from when we had to transport our cat in our car but had (a) no carrier and (b) no idea how he'd react to a car ride, poor thing. I'm a cat owner, raised by a cat owner; it comes with the territory.

Oh, and I got one in the crook of my elbow from whacking my arm against a shelf at Wal-Mart. The bruise it left was quite impressive at the time.

Actually, the scars that interest me the most are the ones that I have no idea where they came from. I have about 5 or 6 on my hands that I honestly cannot recall getting (except for the one and only time I've ever stabbed myself with a knife).

On a related note, graphite (flipping a pencil then catching it by slamming my hands together) tends to stay in your hand for some time, about 7 years and counting in my case.

I remembered another couple scars today.

I got a ringish shaped-one on my right thumb, from when a car door slammed down on my thumb. Took out a big chunk of skin.

On my left arm, I got 2 circular ones, one was from a smallpox vacciene, the other was from when I got celluitious in my lower left arm and they needed to drain it.

I have a ton:

- chip out of my lip on the left: put my tooth through when I was small falling while roller skating
- pock mark near left eye: chicken pocks as a kid, knocked off the scab
- left-central forehead gash: mom didn't realize there was a staple left in my shirt from the tag when I was a baby
- entire nose shiny: burned to bleeding at band camp because they didn't let me re-apply sunscreen. Also has a couple possibly pre-cancerous hairs sprouting out. Fuck band camp.
- light, raised inner right shin spot: slipped on a sharp rock down by the water as a kid and it gouged straight into subcutaneous tissue
- frontal right shin gash: tried to jump up directly onto the stage in high school band practice, forgot to account for the weight of my clarinet case, wanged myself good, didn't realize I was bleeding until my sock was sopping wet with more than I could account for by sweat (summer + hot lights), checked it and never mentioned it to keep from grossing out all the surrounding girls
- lighter line on my inner right forearm: burned by a bread pan when they shoved a pizza into the oven
- raised red circle on my right inner ankle: from a blood blister that somehow got infected with a wart
- light nicks on my right middle and ring fingers: fuck if I know
- several rows of raised horizontal lines on either side of my spine mid- to lower-back, broken up as if I was whipped, three light lines on either side of each knee, red squiggles cut out of my inner thighs: collagen issue, they all started appearing after I hit 16, pretty much always covered with a shirt and long shorts if not pants :(

I have 2 almost identical almost side by side scars on my right forearm. Both were 2nd degree burns and both were done from taking turkeys out of the oven.

I also have a scar on the inside crease of my right arm inner elbow I guess. I slide into some glass while playing street hockey.
