View Full Version : Just have to check a thing with you guys

If you're moving to another city about 600 kilometers (400 miles) away, and you wait until midnight on a Friday to find out when the next train leaves, that is completely insane, right?

Cause a friend of mine called me last night to ask if I could check when the next train was leaving, cause I'm apparently the only person he knows within 600 kilometers who has an Internet connection and he just had to make the move as soon as possible. On a Saturday morning.

As I write this, the next train leaves in 45 minutes, but we've spent about 15 SMSes between us to figure out which train out of the four leaving today is the cheapest and what its drawbacks are. After I told him how to call the train company and ask them since I'm so tired I'm not even sure which city he's leaving.

Of course this is the guy who's neglected to change his address since he lived at my place for a couple of weeks six years ago because deep down he believes me sending him his bills by email magically makes it easier to handle the complex action of paying his bills. (Conjecture.)

And calls me in the middle of the night to ask things like what's 325 multiplied by 214.

And owes me roughly 2000 USD since six years.

But seriously, what I'm asking is, would a normal person try to have a glance at the train tables before making plans to leave town by train?

...

Please tell me this is a third distant cousin to you, that's inbred, and just doesn't know any better...

This person is not a normal person. He's a leech, and a lazy one at that. While I would not do this, I would expect it from someone with a history like his.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that $2000 he owes you. Also, I hear there's this new app that's going around and is even compatible with older phones: it's called hanging up.

You've got a better chance getting that money back from Osama bin laden.

To answer the question: No. A normal person would make something resembling a plan to leave town by train.

Also I'm not sure I'd classify this person as a friend.

+1 to the leech comments

Don't let him continue to do this to you. And, no, that is not how one should move or even plan a trip like that.

Can you please clarify what his substance abuse problems are?

Because if he doesn't have any I will go out, buy a hat, declare it mine, and promptly eat it.

You make a lack of substance abuse rather appetizing Fifth. I might have paid to see something so odd.

Clark, what are you doing here? I thought you were working on the Superman story?!

He's a bartender, so probably cocaine.

And thanks for the concern dudes, but the problems he's given me are not exactly recent. It's been a few years since I was used.

Note to self, avoid posting after a 48 hour binder. You may haphazardly just use the grab bag of prominent assholes rather than actually reading someone's name.

Also years or days that level of use is pretty much going to pigeonhole him in my head as what he is. And then I would advise a strong kick to his nuts, hopefully enough to cause testicular torsion.

I'm assuming since it's 600 kilometres, it's not an option to send him on the train that's going to your city/town/whatever and, "by the way, bring lots of money for the trip".

Honestly, I don't know what I'd do to a person like that.
Certainly not help him in any way. =/

we all make mistakes, I wouldn't fault you for misjudging someone, but should probably work on putting him off more.

Like him calling you in the middle of the night to be your calculator should be *click*. or atleast try to explain that dialing your number takes more effort then figuring it out himself

Dealt with people like this, now I resolve it with the sound of me laughing and then dial tone

If he HAS to leave that night he shouldn't be worrying so minutely about costs and drawbacks and crap.

So what happened, anyway, did he finally decide to just throw himself under the train and rid you of his stupidity?

Afraid not, we watched movies all night at his place and ate candy that he bought and had a lot of fun. I'm not saying he's all reformed or anything, at least not until I see what happens when he gets his tax return this summer that's more than enough to pay his debts. (I know that cause I read his mail lawl.) But I have hope.

Ahhh, OK.
I still agree that he doesn't sound like he's all together, but I wish you luck in getting what's owed and him luck in getting himself on track, so to say.
