Canucks vs. Bruins, Game #5, final score 1-0 in Canucks favor.

One more win and the cup is ours. I don't care about the cup particularly, I just feel it can hold a few gallons of of liquor. (Also, please don't take this as me being interested in sports. I live on Vancouver Island, and if I'm not cheering on the Canucks, they will kill me and hide the body in Boston.)

I can't help but feel that the next game is gonna turn into a Karate Kid scenario, where the Bruins will "go for the legs" but Luongo will save the day despite his terrible karate-style handicap.

As a side note, there are airhorns and car horns and drunken shenanigans 'round here. Please note, if we wind I will turn into Osterbaum (http://nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=40089).

Glad to know you think my home city's team is going to go for a cheap shot. Its been a long time in waiting for us to get to the Stanley Cup. It's not every year we get THIS close. Hell, it's hard enough we make it to the eastern conference finals or semi-finals.

Come on Bruins, its been too long we've gotten this far, lets not stop without the cup!

Before I make myself sound like a brat and finalize this post, I would like to add I'm not trying to be. Long anticipation and all that, plus wearing my fathers Bruins shirt, so it's team pride or the highway. :raise:

Nah, I just think the image of a dude in full hockey goalie uniform parcticing karate on a post at the beach is pretty funny.

Funnier still if they play "You're The Best!" in the background.

I am from North Carolina, where we get about an inch of snow a year. The fact that we even have a hockey team baffles me. I remember when they won the Stanley Cup. I remember thinking, "we have a hockey team? Why do we have a hockey team?"

And then for the next year or so you'd see nothing but Canes stickers and flags on people's cars. But hey, if Tampa Bay is allowed to have a team, I don't see why we can't either. Canes games are actually pretty fun to attend, and if you live in the Raleigh area, it's pretty much your only professional sports option.

For the longest time I've always wondered why Phoenix had a had hockey team (a hockey team from a mostly desert/very very hot/I don't think snow exists state...really?), but I think they're transferring them somewhere else starting next season.

I'm curious as to what the outcome will be for the Stanley Cup this year. The Habs lost fairly early in the series against the Bruins, but then again I know the Bruins are a very good hockey team, so it could've gone one way or the other (Bruins always seemed to be matched against the Habs in every series, or at least, for the last 2 or 3 years), although, like you said Seil, they might go all Karate Kid-like at the last minute and take the cup home, because I know they've done that against the habs a lot in the past.

I can't remember the last time the Canucks had the cup, but I'm somewhat wishfull that Vancouver wins it this year. I always like it when teams that haven't had the cup in a while gets it (like the Blackhawks a couple years ago, my dad's favorite team).

The Canucks never did got the cup in all the history of Canadian Hockey (Which is kinda embarressing since Vancouver is the place where Stanley Park which honors him resides)

The closest they got was around 1994 where they reached the finals and then fell short... which sparked a HUGE RIOT... Now there are a lot more police in every sporting event since because of it.

I don't really care about it. In fact, that's probably for the best. Every time I watch, Canucks loses. The last time I was forced to watch a game by the family, within 10 minutes of watching it, I predicted the end score accurately... 3-4 Canucks loss. Combo of a Jinx and a medium!

So yeah...

Yeah, I hear you about those riots. I think back in 2008 during the series, the Habs won the first set of series against the Bruins 4 games against 3. Then a riot popped out of nowhere in downtown Montreal. The Habs WIN and then everyone riots...my friends and I were WTF?

I'm also somewhat of a Jynx when I watch a hockey game, which results in me trying to not watch hockey games too often, because I can often predict that the Hab's will probably lose 5 minutes in overtime because they'll be over-confident since they tied the game in the last minute of the third period, thus letting their guard down and letting the other team goal. Twice I've predicted this, twice I've gotten dark looks from my friends :sweatdrop

Really, it will probably happen during any sporting event. It's pretty much a mob mentality excuse thinly disguised as sport related patriotism.

I quite recall reading about a fan who moved from America to BC but was loudly cheering for America during the Vancouver Olympics who was forcefully removed from the scene. Granted, it's pretty gutsy to cheer for the "enemy team" when you're in the midst of all the other supporters. :3

Kinda similar to now. If you're in BC, especially in Vancouver, and you aren't cheering for the Canucks, it's generally saner to at least not paint a bullseye on your chest by mocking them or cheering for their opposition.

I hope the Bruins win.Listen, I watch hockey with a Boston fan and a Vancouver fan.

The Vancouver fan accepts that the Rome hit was dirty, argues that the Burrows bite was negligible and takes most win/losses in good stride.

The Boston fan sees Lucic cheap shot Burrows, or their goalie slash him, and says "That's just how they play! Vancouver is too much of a finesse team!" and any sort of argument about the teams (before the last game) was met with "12 to 1!"

But I only watch hockey with a small group of people. But ugh. He is ruining the Bruins for me. Actually, the Bruins are ruining the Bruins for me and he is helping.

Anyway, I'm hoping the Canucks pull the series tonight on Boston ice. The biggest fuck you to Tim Thomas (and Company [also known as the Boston Bruins]) I can think of after this series.

The fact was that the Canucks should've scored. yeah, Luongo let a few slip in (What time is it in Boston? Four past Luongo) but we could've gotten at least one in.

I heard Luongo was so disappointed by his performance that he tried to throw himself in front of a bus... but it went right through his pads.

It's funny because in the immediate aftermath of the Bruins victory I thought "Wow, there are some classy fans in Vancouver, I almost feel bad Boston won another championship, because their fans are still in the stands and they're applauding most of the Bruins players and they must really care about the sport."

...And then I saw all kinds of images of the riots.
And it's just like wwwwhhhhaaaatttttt.
Man way to go Vancouver, way to trash your own city. I know riots are pretty commonplace after victories and defeats, but this one just looked particularly massive and nasty.

He seemed to be doing okay in game 7, but the Bruins were just getting set up way to well. Just because you're a good goalie doesn't mean you don't let any past; Thomas would have had a similar (though less severe) problem if the Canucks could have set up anything resembling offense.
