A thread about being repped

This isn't about pandering for reputation, it's about me going through my user control panel and thinking about changing my avatar and getting sidetracked looking at what I have been repped for since I started posting.

Man, I had a few good laughs looking at some of the interesting conversations that I have participated in over the years. I got to thinking about how some of you are actually really awesome despite any flaws you might possess and remembered some people who seem to not post anymore.

From being repped the first time in a thread where we all thought up jobs for Ackbar, to reviewing DS games, to us all sharing our DnD exploits, to Nikose buying a house.

I really enjoy visiting this place. Even when I don't feel like posting I can usually find something that makes me laugh out loud, something to just turn off my brain and enjoy myself for a but, or something to really make me think.

This was, is, and will probably always be my favorite little corner of the WWW.

Yeah, I do that maybe every three months or so, go through the old greatest hits archive and reminisce about the great threads I was part of. Of course it's random most of the time, most people probably don't have a set system for awarding rep and if they do it must be hard to fit all the different posts that other people make into that system.

But my two most repped posts was one with Pokemon fanfiction and one where I contributed to a news thread about a public sexual assault by describing the practical benefits in catching rapists in the act in terms of easy inflicting of permanent injury, so I'm thinking, generally, speaking on topics warm to the heart of our popular culture is the key to green dots.

That was great while it lasted, the marijuana thread was amazing.

I've only recently started to get some rep, and I think I've been on the forums since 2006 or 2007, although I've only really started more actively posting since this year. Most of them are from people who've viewed my Beadsprite thread (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=39459) in the arts section, but I've got some rep from a Mod or two as well during the years in other threads.

A surprising amount of my rep comes from the pony thread, I got like 4 reps from various posts there, and all of it within about a month. I generally only get 1 rep post a month, except for the first year I was here when I got nothing.

I just don't use the Rep system. I use the preexisting and far superior system of 'complimenting the person's previous argument in a new post.'

Which, you know, is actually more effective because everyone can read my compliment and it doesn't rely on some arbitrary points system, but rather on an actual qualitative expression of my feelings of the merit of their position.

I just don't use the Rep system. I use the preexisting and far superior system of 'complimenting the person's previous argument in a new post.'

Which, you know, is actually more effective because everyone can read my compliment and it doesn't rely on some arbitrary points system, but rather on an actual qualitative expression of my feelings of the merit of their position.

I'll grant that the subtext of my initial post in this thread was not entirely clear so regarding this post and a couple others prior in the thread I feel like this is a good time to reiterate my longstanding and oft-stated view that actually rep points are dumb and caring about rep points is dumb and that the only real thing I actually especially care about regarding rep points is that I feel having the most of them allows me to say authoritatively that caring about them is dumb.

Like really the only thing anyone anywhere ever should care about is the rep comments because the only real point of rep is to be a way to encourage people to pass neat little notes to each other saying I THINK YOU'RE COOL.

...And I guess rep hovertitles, those are a little cool, they are one tiny respect in which I'll grant that rep points are not totally stupid, but like when you are at the point where you are saying about like, the corruption of the rep system, or thinking people are manipulating their rep numbers to have the most rep, that is honestly just a very silly way to be thinking about rep that nobody should ever be engaging in at all.

Yeah, I wagered it wasn't.

I was concerned about the possibility that mods actually couldn't see or regulate the content of comments in reps, though. I mean, imagine what you could get away with if you presumed Mods could not access that content. A heck of a lot of trollin', that's for sure.

Aside from that it would be kind of annoying to see one of my favorite characters insulted every time I logged into my CP -- it does kind of feel like borderline trolling unless it's clear the content is in jest. But I was a lot more concerned about finding a way to confirm that mods could delete content in reps that was even more offensive. The melo-dramatization of the slander against the wondrous Pinkie Pie was just Snake bein' Snake.

I didn't know whether Mods could actually see the reps or regulate them in the first place, like, I wondered if the repping 'system' was private in a way comparable to private messages and thus Moderators could not 'read' what was written in a rep.

Because if they couldn't, they wouldn't be able to actually regulate or delete the rep itself. And if users can't delete the rep either, it just sits there in your CP forever.
But more importantly, in this hypothetical Mods really wouldn't be able to even reprimand those who abused repping as it'd become a matter of "he says, she says." IE, I could claim you wrote an offensive message in a rep, but if mods can't view it or interact with it and it's private and the other guy denies having done so, what could be done?

EDIT: But yeah once Fenris basically confirmed he could do that, I only mentioned my thought process so that Eck wouldn't believe I was being more serious and angry at him specifically than I actually was
