Just thought this was weird and cooky enough to merit a shout out since some of you seem to be looking for work and places to live and such...

did you guys checked this out yet?

http://about.zappos.com/jobs

The Zappos Family currently has career opportunities in 2 fabulous locations. One location is in the “City of Sin. ” Yep, Las Vegas, Nevada. Our other location is home to the Jim Beam Distillery and the Zappos Fulfillment Centers. You got it, Shepherdsville, Kentucky. We do not currently have any work from home opportunities. (Sorry!)

Please check out the Zappos Family’s 10 Core Values before applying! They are the heart and soul of our culture and central to how we do business. If you are “fun and a little weird” - and think the other 9 Core Values fit you too - please take a look at our openings, find the one or two that best fit your skills, experience and interest!

Why consider opportunities with us? In January 2011, Zappos.com, Inc. and its affiliates were named #6 on the 2011 Fortune: 100 Best Companies to Work For List.

And… we’re hiring like crazy right now, and looking for smart, forward-thinking problem solvers to join our world-class, and fairly wacky team.

PS: At the Zappos Family of Companies, over-sized egos are not welcome. Over-sized Eggos, however, are most welcome and appreciated!

Oh, and one more thing! Cover letters are sooooo old-fashioned, don't you think? Show us who you are with a cover letter VIDEO! You will be able to upload one when applying for a position.

I just learned about it due to a Interview the CEO did on the Colbert Report yesterday, so i would imagine it will be booming with applications, but the idea itself is very... unique i would say.

Here is the interview if you want to check it out.

Also, just to plug in the discussion, what you guys think of this business model? At least in concept it seems pretty different from what we usually get in large companies

My fiance's friend's wife works at Zappos, so I heard about this awhile ago. It looks like a fun place to work but the unskilled workers (warehouse, customer service) start off at lower salaries. Better than minimum wage, though.

As the to the business model, it just seems like common sense to me. I've worked at places with good and bad management. Effective managers didn't have to micromanage their employees because they were respectful, friendly and clear with their expectations. People who couldn't handle doing any work got fired without a second thought. The employees who stayed didn't mind the customer service aspects because they were generally content and they took initiative on their own.

However, the ineffective managers who were always stressed, whining, yelling, complaining, and generally being irritating couldn't keep any employees, and the ones they did keep were always in a shitty mood. Customers were treated like shit. I quit that place as soon as I found another job.

TL;DR You have to compensate your employees with a little more than just money if you want them to perform well. Except "compensate" just means "treat them like human beings and not robots."
