There's two methods of attack, and both work 100% if you aren't weak.

1) Attack the physical. Hiccups manifest as a result of the diaphragm spasming. Clench that diaphragm! Claim somatic control!

2) Attack the mental. I don't really know what the jist of the mental loop for them is, but suffice to say, if you think of something else entirely, you will stop hiccuping.

Chug liquid of some sort.

That either will cure it or provide some hilarious entertainment for those around you.

The only true cure is death.

Men actually get a second option, NEUTERING!

Ok, not really. Smash your head into a table until the room goes dark, when you wake up you won't have hiccups.

alternatively bash your chest like a mountain gorilla but closer to your diaphragm!

Gargle water. Worst case sinario you hic up while doing it get a bit of water going down the wrong pipe and cough...but even that should remove the hiccup

Exactly.

I don't quite recall the end of tonight, but I do know hiccups had no place in it. So it works.

Ready yourself, and headbutt something solid as hard as you can. This is a guaranteed fix.

I know I should know better, but... explanation?

It sounds horrible and intriguing.

When I was a kid, my dad would always cure my hiccups by holding a knife to my throat and telling me that hiccuping one more time would make my throat cut itself on the knife and I'd die.

Years later I found out he had been using the back side of the knife, but still, its an effective cure.

My father just threw me down and smothered me with a pillow until I stopped breathing, then resuscitated me. This is called "resetting".
