I was thinking of going as the Spanish Inquisition. Y'know. Because of expectations and such.

http://people.csail.mit.edu/paulfitz/spanish/tt3.jpg
(There are none.)

Also, Halloween movies. Do you know what you're watching?

Halloween (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9I_-WWs62w)
Trick 'R Treat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUqsXvBAqRY)
Poltergeist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR7Zc2fSnHI&feature=related)
The Amityville Horror (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xHJOG03eDE)

Heartless (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCmvhghjmsk)
The Ugly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmD7r1RJJ88&feature=related)

The last two are ones I haven't seen, but they look interesting none-the-less.

The only thing I liked about Halloween is that it delayed the inevitable Christmas merchandise rush, but not any more in recent years. My local Sainsbury's started selling Christmas stuff 3 weeks ago.

There are literally mince pies on the shelf next to "spooky" chocolate cake rolls.

It's not a "scary" costume, but for the first time in years I have a costume planned for the day.

A TF2 Engineer. I have roughly the body structure for it (Though I could stand to lose a few pounds to really look the part) and I already have a hardhat and two tool belt pouches. Just got some articles of clothing and equipment to find.

And I was wondering. Should I get a massive haircut for the costume, or should I just let it grow and say I'm wearing this hat (wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Big_Country)?

You may just want to be the Pyro or Heavy if you can't get the Engie shape right.

Locke cole
10-05-2011, 01:41 PM
See, I'm not fat enough for the Heavy. I am overweight, but not big enough for him. And I'm not going to gain weight for a costume. And I already bought a hard-hat, dude. I'm not turning back now.

It's not like I'm enormous to the point that I'll make the costume look horrible. Especially once I have all that other stuff on, like the overalls.

so at what point did halloween costumes change from "monster" to "relevant pop culture reference"? Im curious.

I dunno, man. I can't think of any real monstrous costumes that I can pull off, and I plan to use this costume for something else after Halloween, so two birds with one 200 dollar budget, man.

However, for something that's both a reference and a monster, I do think that it'd be interesting if I could do a Halloween costume (http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/327/f/3/halloween_crucifie___mar_by_kami_warp_zone-d33fxql.jpg).

I don't know about your geographical locations, but candy giving has literally died in my lifetime. I remember streets being almost LINED with kids, myself included, from when I was truly little until I was 13-14.

Now a decade later, where our household would have seen 100-200 kids in the night, there will be 20 tops. War on Terror, more like War on Candy.

As far as my COSTUME goes, I was thinking PC Gaming Master Race Guy. Putting off Commander Shepard/Adam Jensen for a more ambitious time with more of a prep window.

Halloween is one of the best times to be hanging out with friends, 'cause costumes are always great for additional hilarity or ridiculousness.

If you're in a huge college town like I am currently, you can also pass the time laughing at how every female undergrad tries to out-whore the others.

But definitely dress up and go hang out with your friends and have some fun! I don't know why, but Halloween parties have never failed for me, so I guess I am just trying to hype you up :P.

Also this year I think a group of us are going to try to pull off a full Dr. Horrible cast.

Citations are only required as evidence for contentious claims not basic notes of record.

But shit, Wiki February

At certain intervals February was truncated to 23 or 24 days; and a 27-day intercalary month, Intercalaris, was inserted immediately after February to realign the year with the seasons.

QED up your ass.

Citations are only required as evidence for contentious claims not basic notes of record.

I am contending the claim, therefore it is a contentious claim, therefore you are wrong and should suck it, post hoc ergo propter hoc.

But shit, Wiki February

Wiki'd it, no citation, I win, you lose, fuck you.

QED up your ass.

I'll demonstrate an article to your face.

Professor Smarmiarty
10-07-2011, 08:53 AM
The reason wiki doesn't cite it is the same reason I don't cite it. By you requirement every single sentence and probably eveyr word would need a citation.
Like for example-
I contend your claim that February is 28 days long. Citation needed.
I contend that Halloween is 24 days away. Citation needed.
I contend that your definition of a month is inaccurate. Citation needed.
I contend that QED without a full truth tree is inapplicable. Citation needed.

Mr.Bookworm

The reason wiki doesn't cite it is the same reason I don't cite it. By you requirement every single sentence and probably eveyr word would need a citation.

[citation needed]

To ensure that all Wikipedia content is verifiable, anyone may question an uncited claim by inserting a {{Citation needed}} tag.

The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true.

Wikipedia guidelines for citations are dumb though as I demonstrated in the post above.
I use the general rule for citing in academic works which is that you don't need to cite basic facts.

That's not a basic fact though. Basic fact would be, "February is 28 days long". Not, "February used to be 23 days long."

He cited the Roman calendar for that. Tells you exactly what to look up to check his claim. It's even a firsthand source.

That's not a basic fact though. Basic fact would be, "February is 28 days long". Not, "February used to be 23 days long."

It is a basic fact that the Roman calendar had february as 23/24 or 28/29 days (the last 5 days were pseudoseperate and when an intercalary month was inserted it was put after the first 23 and the last 5 days of february were incorporated into the intercalary month).
Basic facts are facts which are not interpretation or speculation. So like if I'm writing a paper I don't need to cite that Carbon has 6 electrons or that the storming of the bastile happened in 1789 or how the Roman calendar worked.

Isn't Halloween like a month away?Ignoring the last twelve terrible posts, let's have another go at answering the root of this question.

Halloween is the best day of the year. Costumes and candy are justice. Getting hyped only a month in advance is fairly conservative, if you ask me.

Locke cole

In any case, if you only get hyped in the last week or so, that's nowhere near enough time to get a costume ready, if you go that route.

I might watch The Haunting or Rocky Horror later. They've become part of my Halloween ritual the past few years.

You know what I'm going to make the most of this day. I'm going to play some blood rayne betrayl. Maybe some castlevania lords of shadow too.

There was supposed to be a party at my place but it got cancelled due to a lack of interest because no one likes me and I smell weird.

The immediate upside is I have a lot of chocolate and all these video games.

I was going to walk my little brother around the neighborhood as he trick or treated but I was suddenly struck by the cold stick of apathy.

Staying home, handing out candy. Kit Kats and York Peppermint Patties mostly.

Obviously I'm hoping for a low turnout here.

Homework/studying tonight. But it's okay since we basically had our Halloween party last Friday night, so I technically didn't miss it.

Sort of.

Costume Report: On campus today I saw a red bird that was likely angry, a Hit Girl, and a Blu Sniper. Then I went down West Avenue.

They were trick-or-treating.

Kids dressed as dinosaurs, a mummy, several princesses, a banana. I saw Mario, followed by Lugi, then Princess Peach ran across the road. Parents were vikings and Things and there was a king and queen. They had lights up, and jack o' lanterns, and spider webs and gore and ghosts

it was amazing. I think everything's gonna be alright, guys.

Edit:Homework/studying tonight. But it's okay since we basically had our Halloween party last Friday night, so I technically didn't miss it.

Sort of.Monday is the best day for Halloween, because it turns the preceding Friday, Saturday, and Sunday into Halloween, too.

I had to completely redo my Heavy costume, since I now have more the Demoman/Soldier body shape. However, it was worth it for the look on one girls face when she was so sad she missed trick or treating, and I pull out a handful of Hershey Bars

I thought I'd get weirder looks wandering around the campus of a community college in costume, but most people approved.

I went out to Olive Garden and Walmart with a bunch of friends in costume. The Walmart is right next to Olive Garden, there was a wait, and we figured we'd check out the bargain bin for movies.

We may now be watching the great 'Cock's horror movies on Netflix. Or Nightmare before Christmas? I'm unclear.

Stayed home, cooked dinner, handed out candy. Had on Nightmare before Christmas.

I went to work as Neo from the Matrix. I liked it so much that the picture I took of me is now my avatar.

My sociable sort of Halloween plans lasted me till like seven o'clock, around which point the effects of the various substances I had been enthusiastically abusing began to wear off, so I retired to my repulsive cavern. I figured there were most likely numerous horror movies on television, and I may as well watch one of those. This was failing to take into consideration the fact that most horror movies are utter shit, and I decided the hell with appropriateness and atmosphere and what-have-you, I'll just watch some Mad Men. Imagine my delight upon discovering the episode I was at was set on Halloween! Evidently the gods of circumstance and fortune, who had granted me relatively few (ie, not constant) favors since deciding to make me white, had finally chosen to smile down upon me. In celebration I ventured back out into the great unknown, at which point high schoolers began trying to talk to me and I was like "no, fuck this."

And that's my Halloween!

Man, I had a lousy Halloween this year. Worked the entire night (got off at 9:30), so I missed the trick-or-treaters (not that any actually come around our apartment complex--I think they go to the nearby neighborhoods instead). Did not get invited to a single party or event this year. No costume. No candy. It may as well not have happened for me.

Welp, it's Nov 2, and you all know what that means!!

Halloween candy is 50-80% off! Time to make up for all the trick-or-treating you weren't able to do! And you don't have to worry about getting any candy you hate!
