View Full Version : Shopping Cart Skitching

So, I was doing groceries today, and I was in a bit of a hurry. So I went through the store basically doing this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEcbkusXUlo&feature=player_detailpage#t=48s), but without the skateboard attachment (just put my foot on the bottom crossbar and pushed with the other foot; you have no idea how long it took to find that video, either).
I'm sure everybody's done this at least once... if not, you should definitely do it next time you're out. Ignore the dirty looks you get from the old people you race by.
But I did have a question.
I live in Canada, and in North America we generally have fixed wheels at the back of our grocery carts; that is, only the front ones pivot to turn. I've heard that in Europe, however, all four wheels pivot. This seems like a far, far better idea when it comes to regular grocery shopping, but I imagine it would make the aforementioned skitch technique difficult. Does it become dangerous due to crazy rotation, or is it merely a matter of aiming properly with your foot?

We used to call this scootering since it's like using a scooter, where you rest one foot on the scooter and scoot yourself along with the other one (not an electric scooter, those ones that are like skateboards but with two wheels and a big handle sticking up to steer it with).

Scooters are boring. Skitching is totally badass, and it's also accurate. You're skating/hitching a ride on a shopping cart that you just happened to have pushed just a moment before.

That is how I normally get from the grocery store to my car. I do not care if other adults are incapable of having fun.

Also I like to ride on the end of the cart while my wife pushes it.
I would get in the kids seat but I'm about 190 lbs too big

4 wheel rotations are more dangerous if you are a pussy. All it means is that it is mandatory to add sweet tricks into your routine

Kerensky, doing that with shopping carts is dangerous and could get you in the Darwin awards if you get too wild. I'm just waiting for the day when I get to witness some idiot parent try that with their kid in the seat and then wipe out a few seconds later.

I only ever don't do this because it's less fun now that my bodyweight usually outbalances the cart.
I still do it sometimes though.

Used to stand on the end when I was a kid while my mother pushed it.
Like you know how the cart has various warnings on it to not have your kid do anything but sit in the kid's seat? We did everything in the pictures that were crossed out on it.

I didn't either, but the idea of Fifth being like, Fat-Albert-level fat amuses the hell out of me.
