Ellipses, bitches! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5XNDTFdI4M&feature=showob&t=2m57s) ...Because NPF Thread Titles (TM) apparently can't do strikeout.
ANYWAY.
Pronounciatitionatory. Isms.
Jagos. Jagos, I know you're like... the dude what with the news outrage. But when I respond to you, I don't know if I'm responding to Jay-Gos or Yay-Gos or whatever. So you have to clear that up for me.
I've been hearing far, far too many people on TF2 nights being all like, "Yo, what's up Sale? What's going on, man?" It's not Sale. It's Seil. Like a seal. Pretend I clap and do tricks for dead fish.
...Actually, that's a better deal than my current, minimum wage job. I need to run away and join Marine Land.
Anyway, I know most of you. Like, Amake is presumable Ah-Make. Shiney is spelled wrong. Meister rhymes with Keister. McTahr is probably best said with a mouth full of whiskey and a bad Scottish accent. Shyria Whatsits doesn't matter 'cause he lives in a cave and sleeps on a pile of gold with exposed breasts and such. (HOBBIT REFERENCE)
People are going to totally clog this thread up with the way that their names are supposed to be pronounced, but they're names are probably like DFM or something, which translates easily to Def-mhh and one of those sounds in Hebrew that the human mouth is completely ill-prepared for.

I pronounce Seil like Heil.
Which I pronounce all the time, obviously.
pochercoaster
12-03-2011, 03:41 AM
I always thought it was pronounced seal, so I guess it's good to know I got it right?
Pocheros is supposed to sound like poe-share-ohs but I think most NPFers find it easier to mentally pronounce differently, or something.
Po-cher-os.
Not, like, Cher, 'cause that would be weird, but, like "chair."
Po-Chair-Oh-S.
Amake
12-03-2011, 07:20 AM
Good guess, some people think it's Ama-keh.
Seil to me rhymes with veil. Pocheros rhymes with rancheros, spoken in unaccented Spanish. And as for DFM, I don't know what's so difficult about pronouncing a string of consonants. Take the DF part from "handface", throw in the FM part from "pointiffmachine" and remove the superfluous effs. Voila.

You are supposed to pronounce InsaneGenius like it would be pronounced if read by a german who has never heard of the weird alien language they call english.
It's In-suh-neh* Geh*-nie-oos
People who pronounce it differently can go to hell.
*For the love of everything, can you at least try to not say "nay" and "gay"? It's not supposed to sound like broken french pronunciation, but German.

"A German who has never heard of the weird alien language they call English" immediately brought to mind Arnold Schwarzenegger, and I found if you use his voice it gets really easy.
Of course I pronounce it with an Australian accent. Croyzee Cleevah-meen.
A Zarkin' Frood

I will allow Australian accents.
Osterbaum
12-03-2011, 08:11 AM
Some of you are propably pronouncing Osterbaum as a German word, but since the names origin for me isn't in the German language I usually pronounce it with a finnish accent which I have no idea how to type phonetically.

Thank god for having a reasonable name! And I always pronounced Seil as seal, but didn't you used to go by Poetisch? How did that one go?
Mine's not that hard really. If you've ever played Pokemon up to 4th Gen you know exactly how to pronounce my name.
Geminex
12-03-2011, 11:26 AM
I suppose this might be a good time to mention that "Geminex" was actually meant to be pronounced with a hard "G".
Which really makes all the puns even worse, in hindsight.

[Hu-wowk], right?
And I always pronounced Seil as seal, but didn't you used to go by Poetisch? How did that one go?
I think that's German. Translation of poetic, really.
[Po-e-tisj].
Also, Meister would be pronounced [My-ster], Seil.
My name is also fairly easy. [Mel-fis], is what it comes down to.
I always thought that it was, like, a balm for your Osters.
And I don't know German, but Ialways thought it was 'poe-et-itch.'

My mental pronunciations really do not give a fuck.
Example: In the RO days, there was this thing called WoE.
My brain called it "Woe-Eee"
It was actually so pervasive that I called it that a couple times in conversation and got funny looks from one of the local guys I gamed with.
Moral of the story: God help you if you have an acronym name and wind up in my head?
E- (Also, it's Mick-tarrrr, emphasis on the arrrr. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Mostly because I like lying.)

Back in highschool my friends and I would always argue over whether you pronounced the "dot" in Blizzard's online multiplayer service, battle.net.
My name is no fun to pronounce so I don't know if I could give less of a shit about how you read it. I would honestly change it if I didn't already associate it with damn near all of my online activities.
Also, Seil? You're wrong. It isn't "seal." It's pronounced like Sale or Sail. Rhymes with Veil, Jail, and Saxton Hale.

There's no pronunciation guide on that page anywhere.
The closest thing is when it states what the root word is, and it reads like "Kelly."

"I still pronounce Seil like Heil but with an S because I'm a Nazi Nazi and that's actually how the German word Seil is pronounced. If you want it to be pronounced seal, why don't you call yourself seal?" Says the guy insisting on wrong pronunciation of his own internet handle.

I'll tell you this once, and only once: It's pronounced "Pen-el-o-pe Blast-miss-ile, March-ion-ess of Fuck Moun-tain". Get it right, douchebags.
It's 'Seil.' The pronounciation varies depending on how inebriated you are..
