I figured Santa had a bit of a ego.

You see, the story goes that if you were good, you were supposed to get toys and if you were bad, you would get an otherwise useless lump of coal. The way I see it is that it is supposed to be a sarcastic act of mercy. Given that winter is generally damn cold, the unlucky recipient would be able to burn that lump for heat and generally last through the winter nights. Though they'd be no better off after the coal has expired than if they had received warm clothing or something generally more useful to make them more comfortable. Then they can try to be good again next year.

Republican red was invented during the 2000 election. Prior to that there was no universal colour scheme (the parties have no official colours) and it was often reversed in line with more typical colours though generally there was no official pattern. But during that election one of the tv commentators started to refer to red states and blue states and the republicans happened to be red on their map. These electoral maps were repeated many times through the papers over the next few weeks because of the controversies with the vote and the papers all just ran with the red state/blue state for clarity and it entered public lexicon.
So basically it was just cause of random chance that the network doing the co verage had republicans down as red.

Santa is red because of corporate control of our mindset (coca-cola inventing santa costume) and the pubs would be all over that shit.

Also only shitty hipster communists use red. Proper dudes use black.
