Common wisdom would tell you trashcans, particularly outside restraurants are a good source of food. In the ultra processed, economically tight world we live in food in cans has diminished markedly alongside its edibility and hygiene. you also have to deal with the fad of dumpster divers. Stick to soup kitchens as much as you can and if this is streching a bit thin try and shake out a deal with some local establishments that you won't terrorise their customers if you can get scraps firsthand.
