Giant Queensland spider devours snake (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8454494/giant-queensland-spider-devours-snake)

It's the stuff nightmares are made of — a giant spider slowly killing a snake snared in its web.

Cairns man Ant Hadleigh filmed this creepy encounter in a friend's backyard on Wednesday.

He told ninemsn he spotted the brown tree snake snared in the golden orb spider's enormous web.

"The snake was probably a few feet long and the spider about the size of your hand," Mr Hadleigh said.

The backyard battle lasted several hours before the snake finally succumbed to the spider's deadly venom, he said.

"The snake kept on trying to reach up and attack the spider and every time the spider would just run up to the top of the web."

"You could see the spider just chewing into the snake and the part the spider was eating had gone all black. It was pretty disgusting."

As one who has an insane fear of spiders... this is about the only reaction pic that works.

I know you're joking but this statement is basically correct. There's a species of spider called white tips, and they're basically everywhere where I live, and their bite can kill you pretty much immediately.

This one actually irked me a little bit. Mostly the "wound turning black and bubbling" within the hour of the fight.

My point to the hippies is that at least most human hunters have the decency to just shoot their prey instead of pulling out crap like flesh-bubbling venom and the few that go for the latter are generally despised. Spiders just straight up don't give a shit about their kills.

No, they just don't have proper mouths so they have to digest their kills externally.

True. Biology can't be helped. Still, I would not wish to be that snake.

You pretty much have to be.

When living in Australia, not being badass means you die.

He did have SOME fun though when he went along the East coast of the US, and in around California and Nevada.

Australians are pretty badass to live in Australia.

This is actually my favourite conspiracy theory. Beats the hell out of the Moon Landing or Gold Eating Transdimensional Reptiles or 9/11 Hoaxes.

Australia is actually the doom of mankind. For a brief time, free humans went there, but they were quickly captured and enslaved by the wildlife. The wildlife was smart however. They learned through venom and torture that the humans had impressive weapons, and a conventional war may not end in their favour. Instead, they chose the subtle approach. When I think Australia, I think a country of beautiful people and a sweet tourist destination. And that's exactly what the spiders want you to think. They've been at the head of a propaganda campaign that's now lasted centuries.

So now you'll say "But, Azisien, what about the people from Australia? You know, with the sweet accents and stuff?"

Obviously you've never heard of spies. Some of the hypotheses get more outlandish explaining this one, of course. Anything ranging from enslaved humans sent abroad to lure others in, to outright spider venom mind control, to hundreds of spiders working as one inside a Human Suit.

A troupe of golden orb spiders have probably already been hidden in my next grocery order. I will likely not survive it. Please, spread the word. We can't let Australia prevail.

Dear god... the situation is far worse then I could possibly imagine!

We must act fast and prepare for battle!

Maybe that's why everyone is more or less afraid of spiders; they are so dangerous they actually trigger our latent psychic abilities, and we interpret these warning signals as unconscious, instinctive fear of spiders.

I'm going to suggest something now that will shock and appall you. But you have to keep in mind the spiders may be affecting your perception, in other words, our not wanting to do this is what they want you to think. We have to nuke Australia.

Before they figure out they can have soldier ants build boats and bridges.

This is clearly filthy Insect propaganda against the noble and proud heritage of Spider-kind.

This type of bigotry is uncalled for in a polite modern society and I am appalled that this community would take part in it.

What? No. White tips just make the area around the bite rot. Gross ans horrifically painful but unless it bites your carotid not deadly. The only really deadly spider we have is the Sydney Funnel Web.

I used the term insectologist on purpose to draw out this comment to better identify the enemies among us. Only someone deeply in love with spider culture would bother to say this, especially in light of my use of arthropods later in the same post. I know they are arachnids, but am I really going to bother to identify them as such? Only someone deeply enthralled with them would.

Guess who just made the List?

What? No. White tips just make the area around the bite rot. Gross ans horrifically painful but unless it bites your carotid not deadly.

Oh well no big deal then guess I'll just go ahead and play with this Brown Recluse it'll only make my skin rot away WAKE UP PEOPLE

So in recent spider-related news, I was reading in bed when I felt something on my arm. Look over, and there was a spider. I grabbed the nearest thing (A file I use on my 40k minitures that was given to me) and stabbed the thing clean through.

Just cause you guys don't like em doesn't mean they aren't useful. I have several around the house and they eat neiusance insects on a regular basis.

If you don't let them scare you you can control them and get em to work for you. And if they decide to get uppity then you just roll up a newspaper and swat em like a fly.

Flarecobra

That's why I try to leave them be if they're outside, so long as they're not in the way of things.

Out in California, there was this one orb weaver that kept making this HUGE web, and it ALWAYS ended up across the walkway, and had to be taken down.
