So I just visited msn.com and found this.
http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/the-evolution-of-mermaids/pckttp6?q=discovery+mermaids&rel=msn&from=en-us_msnhphero&form=MSNhro&overlaytype=multimediaviewer&name=hpvideo10&csid=ux-en-us&initialmoduleindex=1
Could Mermaids Actually Be Real?
Video: Dive into ancient seas with 'Mermaids: The Body Found' to meet hypothetical aquatic apes. See how they could have developed into the creatures of myth. (http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/the-evolution-of-mermaids/pckttp6?q=discovery+mermaids&rel=msn&from=en-us_msnhphero&form=MSNhro&overlaytype=multimediaviewer&name=hpvideo10&csid=ux-en-us&initialmoduleindex=1)
So there might be evidence and remains supporting the theory that there may have been fish people at one point.

I think... i THINK... the closest we could get would be some sort of semi-humanoid Amphibian-mammal of some sort...
It's likely to be one of those "Could it be? Could it not be? We have things we don't know and a but of hoaxes so WHO KNOOOOOWSSSSS?!"

Sounds about as plausable as the "Expanding Earth" theory.

There are so many more fascinating things to make an Animal Planet special about that have actual support. Why do we care about a thing that might possibly have existed, maybe, in a purely speculative sense, but we have no way of actually knowing?

If a report on the existence of an implausible subject is titled with a question, the answer is "no".

oh they did something like this with dragons a few years ago. Its less "we found proof" and more "hey its not zoologically impossible"

Yeah, I remember that. I wish they'd just stick to the things that are real, since there's probably tons of cool real stuff.

Quick, Kyanbu, make a thread called, "Do you not want to give your money to rpgdemon?"! We split the profits 70/30!

It was a pretty cool video. I'd watch the full documentary.

It would've been neat to find another humanoid species. Would be interesting to see what their culture is like.

I'd settle for another species with any degree of sentience/that we can communicate with. It'd be cool to discover some underwater civilization.

I think we're ignoring the bigger questions here.
Namely, "What's the best way to cook a mermaid?" and "Are they better paired with white or red wine?".

Fried obviously, with red wine. All though grilled/baked mermaid does sound more healthy.

But we can communicate with other apes. its why we taught them sign language

Which is really cool, incidentally.

All I know about merpeople is that they don't have souls. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Merman%27s_Children)

Breaking news; "Mermaids aren't real," says Science (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18692830).
It saddens me that people needed clarification on this.

You mean The Little Mermaid wasn't a documentary?

But what is Science's concensus regarding Gillmen?
(I don't count him as a true merman because of the legs. Totally different class of beast.)

Blegh, I'll admit to having a guilty pleasure for the Dragons: Fantasy Made Real mockudoc from years ago, but from the description this program seems to be so far out there you'd need a telescope to see it. And while I enjoy cryptozoology from a world-building and storytelling standpoint, I hate seeing attempts to pass the, lets say "completely bugnuts" hypotheses as serious science, especially since it ties into, in my opinion, an ongoing decay of the programming quality in general on networks like Animal Planet and Discovery.

Yeah, these channels have went downhill very fast the past few years. It's difficult to find an actual historical documentary on History--it's all reality TV shows and these stupid totally unscientific shows like Ancient Aliens, Decoding the Past, Secrets of the Freemasons, MonsterQuest, etc. where "experts" go over all the "evidence" and various hoaxes throughout history while giving them far too much credit, usually maintaining plausible deniability for their shenanigans by phrasing it, "But could ancient extraterrestrials have built Stonehenge?" It has about as much integrity as saying, "But are there left-wing conspirators intending to create a New World Order by increasing government control of our lives?"
