The company that operates the chain of children's pizza restaurants is retiring the giant rodent's outdated image — and the man who voiced its character for nearly two decades. CEC Entertainment Inc. says it plans to launch a national ad campaign Thursday with a revamped image of Chuck E. Cheese as a hip, electric-guitar-playing rock star.

doesn't Making things "hip" automatically makes them outdated and lame?

IN B4 2025 CH.E.CH HOLOGRAM SINGS AUTOTUNED "CH.E.CH ME MAYBE" IN THE STYLE OF CARLY RAE'S "CALL ME MAYBE" AT SPACE DAVE AND BUSTERS.

It's the only logical conclusion. And, all the arcade games are replaced with Ski Ball, KOTOR Racing, and an Xbox that has Turtles in time on it.

For some reason, this is also the only place you can find Time Crisis 12, but neither of the guns are working.

I like the first one. He's like a dapper hobo.

Why do they change him? He looks shitty in all incarnations. They could just as well have kept the first one and rolled with it. Brand recognition versus 5 random cartoon characters.

I never did really understand the appeal of Chuck E. Cheese's and these other indoor attractions. I suppose it is less trouble than taking your kids to a real amusement park but with the money you spend taking them to Chuck E. Cheese's once a month or whatever to eat bad pizza and outdated arcade games and play in a damnable ball pit, you could probably take them to a real amusement park at least once a year and create a much more interesting/beloved memory. Besides which there are numerous smaller amusement parks about--not everything has to be a trip to Six Flags or something.

I guess you can take them there in the dead of winter, though.

Honestly all of his designs have been questionable. Though I'm surprised they waited this long to update him. Shame that VA guy might lose his job though.
