Hi and welcome to another edition of "I'm too old for this crap". Tonight, explore with me the stupid ass world of Bagel Heads.
Don't know what a Bagel Head is? Well... then here we go!
Fair Warning:
1- This is someone getting a needle in their forehead
2- This is some stupid ass shit

According to National Geographic, some trendy youngsters in Japan think seem to think so -- and they’re proving it by having giant saline bubbles injected into their foreheads.
“Bagel heading,” as the procedure is being called, can be performed at registered body modification clinics – the type of place that administers piercings and tattoos. It involves injecting approximately 400cc of saline, a sterile salt water solution safe for the human body, directly into a person’s forehead with a needled and then slow IV drip.
The large bubble takes about two hours to form completely, at which point the body artist removes the drip and presses a thumb into the middle of the blob (or blobs.) This produces a large, bagel-like shape on the person’s forehead. The effect is only temporary though – the saline is absorbed back into the body within 24 hours.
Man, stuff like this makes me feel real old... back in the day the worst someone could do would be like wearing Green nail painting or something like that....
I might be old, but at least i don't have a Bagel in my Forehead!

Oh boy...that looks...creepy. I'm not sure what to make of it really. Saline is completely safe (just salt water), but I would think there are other risks involved: non sterile needles, bleeding, leakage, etc.
No thanks. This is a lot less stupid than some of the other body modifications I've seen, but damn if it isn't pretty ugly.

"Bagel head a trend in Japan? So wrong--but wait a sec, there's no such trend here!" tweeted @ststgc, or Shota, a Japanese twitter user.
Many confused Japanese readers are finding out about the 'bagel head' trend, which is allegedly all the rage in Japan, from US and international media.
"When I was listening to a UK radio station at noon, I heard something about bagel heads trending in Japan. It's a misunderstanding, but seriously, what is this?" another tweeter asked.
The extreme body modification involves injecting saline water into a person's forehead, then making a 'bagel' shape. The technique was reportedly pioneered by Canadian photographer Jerome Abramovitch, who started saline infusions at an extreme body modification conference called Modcon in 1999.
Keroppy Maeda, a Japanese blogger, had an explanation for why television crews from around the world were suddenly keen to explore the bagel head phenomenon.
"It seems like last year, the television crews that were in Japan for the Fukushima nuclear fallout were looking for something new to shoot about youth culture, and they jumped on bagel heads," he wrote.
Japan is home to a small crowd of extreme body-modifiers and unusual fashion. One award-winning novel and subsequent film, Hebi ni Piasu ("Snakes and Earrings"), explores the painful world of body modification, which involves a snake-like forked tongue and copious amounts of facial piercing.
But few of such underground 'trends' actually break into mainstream Japanese fashion. Coloured contacts and dyed hair are one thing: injecting 400 cc of salt water in one's forehead is quite another.
A case in point of a Japanese fashion "trend" in the world press are the 'bikini jeans', which were allegedly popular in Japan around five years ago. Visitors may have been disappointed to find that few women on the street had even heard of this type of jeans, let alone own a pair in their closet.
Bagel heads obviously exist, and the aesthetic is becoming popular within a marginal subculture in Japan. But is the "beauty trend" aspect a bit of an exaggeration? The verdict in Japanese social media right now seems to be yes.

Not quite as extreme as the false reports of vodka tamponning or rainbow parties here in our own country, but the idea is similar: sensationalize a non-existent or marginal "trend" among some portion of the youth, and then capitalize on the ratings. In this case they apparently ran out of things to attribute to teenagers and young adults from this country and decided to make up a "trend" about another country.
On Bagel Heading itself: that is some dumbass shit. Also why isn't it called Donut Heading?

I'm 31 years old...32 in December. I miss the days when tattoos and piercings of certain areas were the strange.
I saw this on Anderson360 as part of The Ridiculist segment. That says it all.

The ironic thing about Anderson Cooper: he'll probably invite some of the people doing this on as guests on his shitty exploitative daytime talk-show, after making fun of it on his "news" program.
