AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (http://www.weather.com/weather/hurricanecentral/tracker/sandy)

WATCH OUT SHE'S COMIN' FOR YA

...Well, at least Sandy's taken a bit of the media narrative away from those two men running for some form of political office.
Hysterically enough, according to a Facebook 'friend', the fact that Sandy's hitting DC so close to the 2012 Election is a sign from God that He hates Obama and wants Romney to win. I'll be sure to inform all those who lose lives, homes and power in this tragedy that their suffering is all part of His divine plan to save us all from tax hikes on the wealthy!!!

It really shows how ill-equipped I am to handle these things that my initial reaction was concern over how this would impact Gamestop's in-store preorder pickup policy. Normally they only guarantee pre-ordered games to remain in-stock for 48 hours, and I wanted to play Assassin's Creed 3 this week!

...Instead I might go a week without power!!!
(How will I read the Homestuck updates!?!?!?)

(First world problems.)

I guess I might get rained on a bit. Might be wise to retire my bike till it's over and done with.

Somehow the fact that I apparently no longer can just copy-paste images I randomly find in Google image searches into NPF threads is even more depressing than the impending hurricane.

Thanks a lot NPF Mods

This hurricane is God telling us to vote Romney.

I'm excited for this hurricane. It promises to flood the school and union station, and I can test if my basement is prepared for flooding. I've got this thing, my mom calls it a sump pump and I've never had to use it before, but they keep telling me to make sure it works.

Time to learn things!

So, just for a frame of reference we don't have any forumites in actual harms way right?

Keep people update guys and take care! Mother nature really seems to fucking hate you guys!

Oh. Wonderful. Its time for my yearly dose of "we have no fucking power for days and no way to run the shower and bathroom because my dad is too much of a cheapskate to buy a generator."

I live in fucking delaware, too, so this bitch is going to basically park right over my fucking house for two days.

Me! I am currently on a tiny island, 30 miles out to sea, in the path of the storm.*

The coastguard here were all told to be on standby, no one in it is allowed to drink, et cetera.

I stocked up on bread, pasta, and canned food, but then I realized that we have an electric stove here. So, tomorrow I go out again and get more bread, peanut butter, jelly. I'm also not sure if the water is done by an electric pump, so I'll have to go stock up on liquids as well.

I'm in like the center of the island, so I think I'll be okay? I'm keeping my ears open for any notice that we need to evacuate, and if we are told to, I am evacuating the crap off this pile of sand.

There are supposed to be huge waves, which is cool. If we're not evacuating, I might go out to the beach (And stand way the heck back) and look at them.

Anything else I should stock up on, for in case the power gets knocked out?

*I have checked the updated stuff, and we're now not smack-dab in the middle of the expected path anymore. We are still expected to get hit hard.

Hard to say, as last I'd heard they hadn't narrowed down the exact path it'd be taking. I think they predicted it'd hit New Jersey & go inland from there.

However, if the news tells you it'll petter out from there & it's predicted to travel over lake Champlain, don't believe them. They said that about Irene & it was fairly nasty after going over the almost great lake. (Hey, it spent a few days almost being reclassified. It was created by the same glacial waters & is generally in the same Northeastern area as the rest. Its just the annoying little brother of the other ones.)

Pyros is actually causing the hurricane to veer off the coast of North Carolina, because I didn't want any hurricanes to mess up my birthday. You'll notice it makes a subtle arc around Charlotte, NC.

Good luck peoples on the coast! I have faith in your ability to survive!

Remember to keep your cell phones, laptops charged, so that when power goes out and whatnot, you can post how crappy your day is via cellular and/or call for help.

Flarecobra
10-28-2012, 11:14 AM
So you bribed the storm gods too Pyros?

But in all seriousness, make sure you got all your important documents ready, and irreplaceable stuff also documented, just in case. And if there is flooding, don't be dumb and try to cross it. And make sure your car is filled with gas if you are evacuating. One of the main causes of traffic jams during evacuations are from cars running out of gas.

RPG, stay safe man.

Everyone wish me luck!

Looks like Maryland's going to get punched in the face by Sandy.

Not only is New York getting hit by the fun, but I AM WORKING ON A GIANT DEATHBOX THROUGH THE WHOLE THING. That's right, seems that Sandy wants to ruin my uniforms by having me swim to my patients tonight. Send some happy thought my way guys, it's going to be a rough few days.

Not too worried. Might be some flash flooding but I'm not currently living on a flood plain...the main thing is traveling to/from work might be slippery or flooded.

Seems it's likely to get bad enough that schools are already being shut down, at least for tomorrow. Not what I expected.

So yeah shit is about to hit the fan hard.

I live in a city that was poorly designed and place entirely on a bunch of fucking hills, but living on one of the said hills protects me from any sort of floods.

Trees being knocked down and hitting me on the other hand...

Also: How terrible is it that you'd change the forum theme to something awesome the night before I'll likely lose power for a week? That's just unforgivable.

Seems like we'll be hit with the remnants of the hurricane, which will basically mean maybe 50-60 km winds and some rain by Thursday. As for flooding, I live on the third floor of an apartment building, so no worries there. I'd be really surprised if we lost power in some way, since I don't think the winds would be powerful enough to knock trees/poles over. Best of luck to all of you living on the US East Coast, be safe and well prepared.

Well, after a nice relaxing weekend being fucked sideways with panicked customers packing the store for three days straight (we sold out of water each day!), I get to get up early tomorrow for more of the same. And schools are cancelled, so the kids can join the fun too! Basically, Frankenstorm actually hitting or no, it's gonna be crazytown.

Crazytown with a chance of power outtage and/or getting trapped at work. #hahawoo

Same goes for the rest of the shore.

It's super windy here right now, and there's already flooding downtown, but it's not started raining. Or, it might have just started raining now, since there is now water on a window. Either that or water is being blown up into our windows from the ocean.

No power outages yet, but the wind is actually rattling the house.

Kyanbu The Legend
10-29-2012, 01:02 PM
Yeah, we still have power here too.

Nikose Tyris
10-30-2012, 10:13 AM
Did not lose power.
My Gazebo wrapped itself around a tree. I took down the fabric top. The metal poles got ripped up and blown away. Some of the metal is destroyed.

Kyanbu The Legend
10-30-2012, 10:22 AM
Still have power on my end. Although my area seems mostly flooded thanks to the lakes around here overeflowing.

In other news it seems the shore line is completely (well near completely) destroyed.

I guess super storm sandy wasn't a fan of jersey shore. On a serious note, 16 were reported dead, most of them due to falling trees.

Bells
10-30-2012, 10:42 AM
MSNBC has a very nice live map of the hurricane, it seems it will just slide across the border of ohio and go north as a tropical storm, wind speeds are down and steady so the worst seems to be over.

Some reports say 18 dead in the US 1 in Canada, Jersey and NY seems to have taken the worst of it.

However if the map predictions are accurate, NY seems likely to get a second wind coming from the far west side on the next 24 hours. In that case, Jersey could see some heavy rain still going for the rest of the week.

So, keep alert out there fellas... "thankfully" you guys are on the final stretch of a pretty close election, so help should be coming in fast and abundant.

Well after a night of dodging trees and downed power lines, I'm home safe for a little while. It was a mess out there. Most of the side roads were near unpassable and the highways were full of debris. Lots of places flooded like crazy and NYU Hospital lost power and their backup generator! I heard from a friend who works there that they were hand carrying little nicu babies and patients on ventilators down 9 flights of stairs to hundreds of waiting ambulances below. Amazing.

How New Zealand news reported the story:
Bunch of Americans freaking out followed by some po-faced New Zealanders in America saying things like
"The ocean was just like a rough day at Piha"
"The winds were strong but not any worse than Auckland winds"
and my personal favourite
"It was a day when you'd like to stay inside with a movie but if you got shit to do you just gotta get out and do it".
Classic.

God damn it, Texas...

Also Wild Wood, Sea Side Heights, Ocean City, Alantic City Board walks are gone now. Completely gone now, have to say it really sucks that the places that held such great memories of my grandmother are completely gone in just one night...

Yeah we took pictures but now that and my PS3 and Wacom tablet are all I've got to remember her.
