So, that's it folks... today is November 21st. We are officially on the countdown for the end of the world on December 21st.
The Mayans man... the mayans...
This is the big one. No way around it. That Nostradamus shit a few years ago, that was weak. Just flavor of the month. Y2K? Pure Propaganda... nothing but a monthly scare. But this... this one. Oh man, this one is coming for some time now.
And it's true also! Totally!! The center of the galaxy will align with earth and the sun and ALL The planets on December 21st!... that happens every year, but STILL (Still butts... heh) !!
So, that's it folks... the game is up and the bets are on the table. We had a good run, we really did. Hey, at least we get to see the Hobbit before it all ends!
So, is everybody ready? I Suppose some of you might want to make preparations for this... the clock is officially going now, 30 days up to go.
It was a pleasure to share this planet with most of you and may the end be quick and painless, and if we so happen to meet in the afterlife, let it just be known that i called dibs on the top cloud over Alpha centauri, alright? Let's not be dicks about it.. i called it first.
dude we are gonna wake up December 22 and nothing will have happened. Apocalypse scares are not funny. Seriously.

Also we already have a shitty mockocalypse thread, so can we try to keep all the bullshit doomsinging confined to one shitty place maybe?

Let's not forget the timewave collapse predicted by Terrence McKenna. Although he actually predicted that to happen in like 2017, but then fudged the numbers until it matched with the Mayans. I predict the end of the world will occur just like this, with the date being pushed back forever even as it happens. This world, as it is right now, is how the apocalypse appears to those of us living in it, to paraphrase Grant Morrison.
Also, and this is the part that doomsayers tend to get all confused about, the end of the world as we know it does not mean the end of life on this planet. The world is a human construct. When it ends we're going to make a new one. There's nothing to be afraid of. Everything in the entire universe is going exactly by plan.

I prefer whatever apocalypse the ancient Incans had in mind.

Maybe Yellowstone will go off?
This is something that actually scares me. Not that it will go off on the date of no return, but that it'll go off at some point. It's terrifying, to think what would happen.

yea that is legit because it WILL happen, assuming we dont develop some technology to artificially stop it. When it does a huge chunk of the US will be wiped out. It should happen soon, but soon in a geological sense. We could have a few centuries left.

Or we could go with the fact that the crust is moving, and the 'Yellowstone is overdue for an explosion!' is based off of an average between three eruptions. THREE. 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and 640,000 years ago. Going by that, then, one could say that we're overdue, or we could be one hundred sixty thousand years away from another explosion. Just saying.
Also, Did the Mayans have leap year, or did we come up with that with the implementation of the Gregorian Calendar? 'Cause if we came up with that, then wouldn't that mean that we're way past when they ran out of space on their calendar predicted the end of the world?
Edit: Elaborating on 'the crust is moving'. I mean to say that given enough time the Yellowstone Caldera will end up underneath the Rocky Mountains.

Cloud Strife is just an alien agent, calming us all down so we do not see their inevitable ambush strategy on December 21st when we're at our weakest after fighting off the invasion of the shadow lizards.

I have heard both.
Fun fact, every 100 years we aren't supposed to have a leap year, but no one bothered to actually enforce it, so we are nearly two weeks off.
Actual length of a year is 365.24 days

Wait... I completely forgo about the date it was supposed to happen!
Aww man, I completely missed seeing various shitstorms erupt around the Internet.
I mean, yeah, the lack of accounting for Leap days in the Mayan calendar meant that the date was supposed to be months ago, but still.
...And I don't think a single pretentious webcomic that I read made even a single reference to it. What gives, Internet?

Because Assassin's Creed did it. They did not want to be mainstream.

I can't tell if you're being serious, or making a joke, but if you are being serious, the date is December 21st, not November.

I think he is refering to the december date minus the leap year clusterfuck.
Regardless, in about a week we ALL are going to start hearing all about this, so stay tuned folks...

Well these dates for the end of the world are usually going to be on some interesting day--December 21st is the winter solstice.

It's the center of the Galaxy dufus.
But here is something weird...the Hopi Indians did have an End of the World myth with many similarities to the Mayan's own we are making fun of. Now this could be a case of cross-cultural but I won't speak to it like an expert as I am not sure if the Mayans and Hopi had any interaction unless they existed at the same time.

I thought we were located on the Milky Way...

As for Hopis and Mayans, if they have any Meso American foundations, that would be "a possible" why they share similar Mythology.

Hopis were American SW.
Also, this whole thing could go back to the Olmecs as there are many similarities between the two cultures but the Olmecs are older.

I keep seeing this thread title and thinking that it's about NPF, and then I'm all, "FUCK YOU, BELLZ, MAYBE IT IS YOU WHO HAD THE NOT-ABYSMAL RUN THAT IS NOW CONCLUDING AHAHAHAHA *ban*!", but then I remember it's about the whole planet's destruction and figure that's a pretty extreme disciplinary action if we're all dead anyway.

I, from now on and forever, shall dread life and live weary of the seething passive-rage of a blunt red knife held at wrist. Waiting the meek misstep that will provoke grave pain... and they shall call it the foreshadowed banhammer of synk.
If we survive the Mayan hellscape of Y2K proportions, then we shall meet again... in the thunderdome.
If you can make it have wi-fi that is, cause, if not.. than fuck that shit, srsly.

Something I felt like elaborating on just because, doubt anyone cares.
The mayans had three calenders. One based on the sun, another on the moon, and a third on the earth. As you know none of these perfectly divide into the other so they quickly de-synchronized. The end of the cycle, their so called dooms day prediction was when these three calenders would be in sync again. The entire thing is arbitrary.
The ending day wasn't decide because of some celestial event but because it was "X" days from whenever they happened to decide to start their calender.
