...Because of this. (http://www.buzzfeed.com/leahm4aa38ad70/we-asked-24-women-why-they-dont-use-birth-control-v1ji) Yes, yes, I know it's a buzzfeed article, meant to generate controversy and constructed to be as mindless as possible and bait people into clicking it. But I still can't pick my jaw up off the floor.

The responses seem to fall into the following categories:

1. "I am chattel and my body belongs to my husband/future husband/Jesus."
2. "I want my body to be as organic and natural and toxin-free as possible. I don't know what science is." (Presumably the woman who says she doesn't take birth control because she wants her body to be organic is planning to sell her meat at top market value?)
3. "Although I enjoy sex, I abstain from things that make me feel good because they are sinful and/or it makes me feel morally superior."
4. "Because choosing NOT to use birth control makes me responsible. I think? IDK how that works but it does."
5. "Because being fertile makes you a [flower] womanly woman with the womanest of womahoods."

Note, I do not have any problems with people choosing not use birth control- I merely take issue with the pseudoscience disseminated around it, the idea that sex is sinful and/or your body does not belong to yourself, that not using birth control is somehow more responsible than using it, and that being fertile and/or being a mother somehow makes you more of a woman than women who can't or chose not to have kids.

In conclusion: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa:

As a transhumanist my philosophy is your body is an imperfect and flawed thing. So use science to make up for natures short-comings.

Though personally I'd jump at the option to have a pill that simply kills the desire to have sex.

"Because babies are cooler than pets"

Lies and slander!

Not sure if non sequitur or you think this is what birth control does?

neither, I think its an alternate way to handle the issue. Abstinence isn't realistic because of human sexdrive. A pill that made that an option sounds good to me. Wish we could have that

^That's called childhood :P
I don't know what it's like not to have sexual hormones, but I would guess society would be a lot more peaceful without them. Haven't pondered enough on this to have an opinion though. (Also, even childhood isn't entirely freed from them)

@OP: Sounds like your usual propaganda. First they have an opinion, then they figure out reasons prone to convince people, then cool ways to tell them. It's not up to me to say whether it is good or bad but I can at least tell that some of their reasons are just pulled out of their butts as part of the campaign. I don't think many people really buy some of those. It sounds more like a dragnet trying to get individuals to relate with a mere 2 or 3 "reasons", doesn't matter which ones. Well that's propaganda for you :)

I have those. It has its ups and downs...or not

I'm just going to avoid the outward statement that fertility=womanhood because then I'll be ranting for hours.

This one jumped out at me: "Because it allows men to use women with no consequences". Babies are the only potential consequence of that sort of behavior?

It's frustrating to see WOMEN co-opting the language of feminism in a way that sounds like they're supporting women when they aren't doing that at all

EDIT: It's frustrating to see people in general doing that, but I say women specifically because showing women saying this stuff is confusing and puts a kind of smoke screen over the whole issue
