View Full Version : I am too old to still have dreams about high school

Seriously. It's been 7 years since I was in high school, why the hell do I still dream about it? Fellow NPFers, do you still dream about being in school? If you stopped dreaming about it eventually, how old were you? I don't want to dream about school anymore, dammit.

I finally had a semi-realistic high school dream this morning. Whereas in my other high school dreams I thought there was a reason I had to be in school, in this dream I ain't give a damn.

I dreamt that I had to put together a presentation for the class, and the topic I chose was magical girl anime. However, instead of doing any research, I wasted my time drawing magical girl outfits. On the day the assignment was due I told my teacher I wouldn't be presenting because I wasn't prepared. He asked me when I would turn in my assignment, and I said "Never, I'm 25 fucking years old, and I don't know why I'm here." Then I left and woke up.

What stupid recurring dreams do you have?

Also, for those of you who went to grad school, I bet the dreams are a million times worse. Confirm/deny?

I graduated high school more than ten years ago and I still dream about being back there fairly often. Oddly, I never seem to dream much about being in college though.

Nowadays my stress dreams like to manifest themselves as dreams about losing the house. Even though that was only a period of a few months, and four years ago on top of that, I still dream that the house is still in its half demolished state and that I still have belongings there that I never got out. Which is especially frustrating because I did all that work to be sure that I didn't leave anything behind.

I have them semi-often and every time it's in the same form- old friends I'm still in contact with remind me I was supposed to be there this whole time and wonder why I haven't been going, and then school life carries on as it ever did.

I dread to think how much detention I'm in. Ten years of missed homework is a lot of make-up.

It's because of watching anime. Every anime in some fashion is about high school.

Not even once.

Fifteen years for me, but every four or five months I dream I was supposed to still go there but keep forgetting for four or five months at a time and I'm massively behind on everything every time I show up. A lot like Babybahamut I guess except without the friends part.

Story of my life really.

I don't remember ever dreaming about high-school, though I must have at some point.

Instead I do dream about some university paper or assignment being overdue or some such. I also fairly regularly have an army related dream, where I'm supposed to be at some military training RIGHT NOW and I'm missing it and will have to spend the next leave on base OH MY GLOB or that I STILL HAVE SEVERAL MONTHS OF SERVICE LEFT OH SHIT THIS SUCKS

It's been 10 years, and I don't dream about high school so much any more. It used to be the classic dream that I'd missed a few classes required to graduate, and now they're making me go back to take them, even though I'm in college already.

Now I dream about college (5 years out), and the part time job I had while there. I keep dreaming that I'm supposed to go to class and to my job at the deli, but I keep missing them because of my full time job, and my professors and boss are mad.

So good news, it might go away eventually!

Bad news, it'll be replaced by something worse!

You think dreams about high school are scary?
I've had dreams before about all you fuckers on NPF.

I occasionally dream that I forgot that I was supposed to be taking a college class and the final is RIGHTNOW. I guess this makes more sense for me since I used to occasionally take online or on-campus classes back when I worked in journalism, in an attempt to build up a resume so I could stop working in journalism.

I thought we said we'd keep that private. Look, the sheets got cleaned, that's all that needs to be said.

I still do, though inevitably I start questioning why I am in high school when I have completed both college and a graduate program. Then things sort of go weird, though in my dreams that's not unexpected.

[...] I was freaking out because I couldn't find my locker.

I don't know why, but in many "lol synk you're in high school for some reason" dreams I have difficulty finding my locker and get really bothered by this.

I had one last night, and for some reason, it was my MIDDLE SCHOOL, and I was freaking out because I couldn't find my locker.

Dreams, nah. Nightmares, plenty!
I used to have some about five years back where I'd be back in secondary (high) school, and suddenly TURRURISTS would barge in and hold the entire school hostage for reasons. Rather than having some power fantasy where I'd sneak up, take one down, steal his gun, take out the rest and be lauded as a hero, I'd instead be stuck in the toilets while they invade because I'm having a major stomach upset. They'd comb the school, while I'm sweating in fear and trying to clean up because the brown stuff will not stop flowing. I hear noises outside, such as one putting a crate by the stall. Then one leans over the top, and shoots me in the chest. I fall forward, not dying instantly, but everything seizing up in cardiac arrest...

...and then I wake up and it's 4AM in the morning and my bedsheets are drenched in sweat.

These days I don't really remember my dreams, they're usually gone immediately after waking up or irretrievably forgotten five minutes after. Nothing school related, I think. Mostly me being someone else, actually being that person and not just pretending to be them. I'm a very envious person.

Every dream i have had about High School in my adult life has turned into me going 'Wait, I graduated, i don;t have to do shit!' then wandering the hallways and grabbing food in the cafeteria .

So I just now did a [very brief] search, and preliminary evidence suggests this is one of the most common "stress dream" themes. I suppose that makes sense for me, given the nature of working on and completing a dissertation and looking for a job in the past several years.
Also, for those of you who went to grad school, I bet the dreams are a million times worse. Confirm/deny?

...perhaps confirming that.

I can recall that some, likely when the more rational part of my subconscious won out, averted this scenario or moved past it and started breaking down, in the sense that more fantastical or illogical events would occur (physically impossible geometry, environment shifts, less realistic settings). Those ones were entertaining.

I will say that I think my highschool 'stress' dreams stopped completely only recently, maybe within the last couple of years.

Now I have dreams where my family is falling apart and I get into lots of physical altercations with family members, which is not something that has ever happened IRL so I don't know what to make of those.

I have the recurring theme of being unable to find my locker as well. Also, in my high school they rotated the first and last classes of the day every week, so in my dreams I'm usually trying to figure out if it's an A or B week so I know which class to go to.

Now I have dreams where my family is falling apart and I get into lots of physical altercations with family members, which is not something that has ever happened IRL so I don't know what to make of those.

I had a dream where [disturbing] my mother was beckoning me to look at something and she opened the door to the bathroom where the severed head of a man she murdered was sitting on top of the toilet and vomitting into it while still clearly conscious. You know, normal family stuff. And then there's also dreams where my mother is screaming uncontrollably in my face. -_-

I just used to have the "Oh no, I had pants on but now they're gone and everyone can see my tighty whiteys/dangly bits" dreams. Been a while, though.

I also have a number of bad dreams where I'm in combat, fighting, yet cannot save anyone, dispite it being 6 years since I was in Iraq.
