View Full Version : TOYS!

So I like collecting things. Honestly I Clearly inherited some hoarder behavior from my fucked-up ass family, but I still enjoy collecting things. For a while it was mostly comics and movies.I've finally given in to the Toku-fan urge and decided to start collecting rider, sentai, e.t.c. figures. TOYS, YOU GUYS! But I'm not sure how to go about it. I've set one early rule for myself and that, is Kittymans.
Kittymans, you say?Yes, Kittymans.
See, one of my Favorite City of Heroes Characters(AP33 FO'lyfe!) was Volt Tiger (http://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/Volt_Tiger). A Tokusatsu inspired Blapper who mostly punched and yelled at things with awesome thunder-god powers. He was great, he was fun, and I still kinda miss him a lot. I miss my TAIGA BOLT! and RPing with friends and being a weird mishmash of Casey Jones and Kamen Rider. So I figure,"Why not collect the Kittymans?" Feline inspired Toku heroes, villains, and their accessories. Seems like a good limit to set myself as a start. Keeps me from going overboard early on, allows me to get a diverse selection from different shows, creates "Thematic Synergy", which I'm a sucker for, And once I feel that's satisfied, I'll have bits and pieces of lots of sets to complete to branch out. This also lines up with my first indulgence a few weeks ago(before I set this Rule, btw, so it's kind of a post-justification) of buying a Wild Tiger Figuarts and a Kamen Rider Beast.
I've also been considering commemorating "completing" certain comic/Anime/Movie Collections by buying a figure of the characters.
So! let's talk toy collections, how to go about them, if you've got them, what you think. And, of course, Kittymans.

I have no idea what a Kittymans is, but I used to collect Zoids. Still would if they were more widely available and I had the spare funds. What I like about is not just that they are cool, which they are, but they are also very customizable. I've done a few repaints on some of mine, and a few minor customizations, but nothing I've done comes close to some of the expert work I've seen out there.
I've probably got more than a hundred, but the jewels of my collections are three that I never thought I'd get my hands on:
Gungaryados (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/Einhander/DSCN3802.jpg)
Orudios (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/Einhander/DSCN3798.jpg)
Deadborder (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/Einhander/DSCN3804.jpg)
I've wanted these three kits since I was a little kid in the early 90s, and I even owned an evil pegasus, a black and red version of the Orudios, but it got sold at a yard sale when I was in high school, before I knew how valuable it would have become. Anyway, these aren't original releases, but the second release made a couple years ago.

I still have a couple tubs of assorted K'nex, but that's about it.
I once used them in a science project involving dropping an egg 2-3 stories without breaking it.
It almost worked, too.

My toys are mostly electronics and technology/computers anymore. Which is both good and bad, I suppose.

I used to have a lot of legos, but I didn't bring them with me when I moved out of my parents. I think my brother took a lot of them with him. I had a lot of the spyrius and dragonmaster sets back in the day. Those were some pretty cool and innovative kits.
I remember we used to use the minifigs to play AD&D with. I think I still have most of those.

I tend to amass a collection of action figures, small figurines, and other small toys of nerdy things I like-- mostly of the very inexpensive variety-- like a squirrel hoards acorns for the winter season. My rather embarrassing current tally, most of which fits in a small corner of my writing-desk:
-Valentine's Day Stormtrooper Plushie (stormie with a bow tie and a little rose)
-Frank Gorshin Riddler action figure
-New 52 Riddler action figure
-2 Funko blind box mini Batman figurines (Blue outfit Batman and black outfit, armored Batman.)
-tiny Superman toy from a vending machine
-Fisher-Price Imaginext Mr Freeze, Penguin, Riddler and Joker
-Kingdom Hearts Donald Duck figurine
-Donald Duck as Darth Maul figurine
-Megablocks Doctor Who
-Heroclix figures: Arkham Origins Batman, Iron Man 3 Tony Stark, Arkham Origins Penguin, Arkham Origins Joker Thug
-Disneyland mini Star Wars figurines from blind bags: Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader's Tie Fighter, Star Tours Guide Droid, Greedo.
-1980's-era yellow sparkly My Little Pony unicorn
-Mini Portal turret
-Cameraman smurf
-Portal 2 light-up P-BODY action figure
-TF2 Portable Mercs blind box BLU Engineer (THE MOST ADORABLE THING ON THE PLANET)
Most of the above came from conventions.
Also bought from a convention but not a toy: The coolest Metroid fanart EVER (https://www.etsy.com/listing/171296905/hunter-from-the-sky-super-metroid?ref=shop_home_active_3).

I don't have many actual-factual toys, but I do have a little Cyberman bust and the Sonic Screwdrivers of both the Third and Fourth Doctors. So when the Daleks come, I got it covered.

I guess toys worth mentioning are my 1999 Raynos (since Zoids were brought up), my model 606 LFO, and my Churuya Nendoroid. I don't like the clutter I already have, so I'm not really a collector of anything and I've mostly stopped browsing the toy aisles.
I still haven't figured out a suitable place for the 606 in my house after over a year.

I grabbed a couple six inch figures of Captain Harlock and Queen Emeraldas from a really nicely painted series of Galaxy Express 999 toys recently. Also thinking of grabbing this figuart (http://www.amazon.com/Bandai-S-H-Figuarts-Gokai-Red/dp/B004Y3U81A) Captain Marvelous toy. I've got one of those Masterpiece Optimus Prime toys kicking around too, so pretty much if I get the Captain Marvelous and then put all four of them together, I fully expect the sheer concentration of will to bring them to life.
Beyond that, I don't really do toys anymore. I buy disturbing (http://galindorf.deviantart.com/art/Empty-140268933) sculptures (http://galindorf.deviantart.com/art/Please-68477695) instead. Because the idea that anyone but me (and my bird) could be comfortable in my home is abhorrent to me.

Use to collect Transformers and Zoids (Liger series for life). Now I collect Beyblade tops, even though I don't buy them often like I use to during my teen years.
I have almost 100 tops and no collectors case to put them in. most of them are just sitting in a really big box.
Also have a collection of yugioh cards and a small old collection of old pokemon cards and B-Daman figures.
