I love me some video game music. Infact for the longest time I was working on vg music blog (on hiatus due to family drama + stress wee) and I have covered a wide variety of topics from the Nerdcore stylings of Random aka MegaRan (I even got a song dedicated to me (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q-Le_sm2R4)) to the criminally overlooked Belmont album from Megabeardo to various OCReMix albums (which got me noticed by the OCReMix judging staff  )
On my computer at this moment I have 5 gigs of music (not alot compared to some I know)
I have countless favourites depending on my mood so I ask to you good denizens of NPF, what are some of your favourites.

Basically anything from classic OCR. I still listen to OCR almost every day. :D

I got the Xenoblade soundtrack on my computer, but most of my "nerd music that no one with any taste in music wants to listen to" is anime sound tracks.
By "taste in music," I refer to a preference for music about fucking strangers while intoxicated. This is what the radio tells me hyu-mahns like to listen to.
But, going way back to what you were actually talking about, I like "One Girl in All the World" and "All the World in One Girl." The latter especially. Also Ragnarok Online's soundtrack is enough to make me forget what an awful game it is.

Many of the songs in the Ragnarok Online soundtrack are quite nice.

The Xenoblade Soundtrack is a must have and top contender for best soundtrack from that year. Some of the tracks feel like a successor to Chrono Trigger's music.
I also love the TWEWY soundtrack and the Jet Grind radio tracks

I've never actually played Neotokyo (it's an fps mod for half-life I think) but the soundtrack is fantastic. Link 1. (http://edharrison.bandcamp.com/album/neotokyo-gsdf) Link 2. (http://edharrison.bandcamp.com/album/neotokyo-nsf) I used to just leave it on loop when I played Warframe or Dota 2 or Smite. I've probably listened to the entirety of both albums over 30 times, and that's a conservative guess.
And for something completely different, there's the Payday 2 soundtrack, (http://overkillsoundtracks.bandcamp.com/album/payday-2-official-soundtrack) which does a great job of getting your blood pumping. Note, tracks 29 and 30 are from the Hotline Miami heist DLC, so they will sound familiar to anyone who has played HM.
Also seconding Bastion (and here is a bandcamp link (http://supergiantgames.bandcamp.com/album/bastion-original-soundtrack) if you want to know the individual songs).
And while we're at it, here's the Transistor soundtrack (http://supergiantgames.bandcamp.com/album/transistor-original-soundtrack) for good measure.

I like to classify music as belonging to one of several ranks. Those are good, great, masterpiece, archetype and The Awakening:
g6-uTmIgeP8
It's very favoritest song in the world. It takes me right back to being sixteen years old and discovering the tiny world in my SNES cartridge all by myself, for myself; feeling at once crushed and elevated by all the strangeness and wonder and beauty of the world; falling in love for the first time and living out stories in my head about the saddest, bravest heroes; holding up a tape recorder to the television to try and capture the magic and listening to it every night as I fell asleep and trying to share it with people and seeing them get it even just a little bit.
I expect you guys get it a little more.
The FTL soundtrack is great! I would also recommend Binding of Isaac and Super Meatboy too. Arcade-y background music.

I failed to mention one of absolute favourite albums that sits comfortably in number 3 (or number 2 if I am not including Square Enix albums)
Double Dragon Neon

viM0-3PXef0
Have I ever played Witcher? No. Do I really care? Apparently I'm missing out on some fantastic sex scenes. But Youtube apparently decided that Witcher 3 was a trailer I should see, and I loved the whole (maybe I'm racist here, I don't know?) Arabic sound.
Also, The Bard's Tale isn't a game, it's a musical (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzHqXzcuWuE).
Also also, Two Steps From Hell. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAczJPzuvUM)
Also also also, Akira Yamaoka (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTx4dQXN400).
Harry Gregson Motherfudging Williams. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqqq8uqSDnk)
I could go on about my most favorites, but I would have to give you game titles instead of specifics.

I'm fond of:
the Hate Plus (http://isaacschankler.bandcamp.com/album/hate-plus-ost) soundtrack*
the first Age of Empires' soundtrack (http://youtu.be/0o2aBk86UKY?list=PL42F9EACE6C32281D)
Want You Gone (http://youtu.be/dVVZaZ8yO6o) from Portal 2
all of FF6's music but Zozo's theme (http://youtu.be/q0B5o2Ag-Fo) gets stuck in my head
this (http://youtu.be/JU__bc58oXo) from Earthbound
Build mode music (http://youtu.be/Bs5QGN-zhwM) from The Sims (1)
*Hate Plus is a fantastic game and everyone should play it. I think it's only $12.

Do we still describe things as "Hype"? The Sun Rises (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya3yxTbkh5s) was the most "Hype" final boss theme I've ever heard.

I'm partial to Final Fantasy 9's soundtrack, particularly The Place I'll Return To Someday:
vW3QK6CTg2g
I love it SO MUCH.
I'd post a link to the whole soundtrack, but it's literally four hours long. So here's a few I like:
hW6yfp731SA

I know FF9 isn't the most popular entry in the series, but it's the first Final Fantasy I played through to the end and it's still one of my favorites (But then, my favorites are FF9 and FF12, so I'm not exactly in the majority).

Sonic Advance 3 was the last vanguard of being a completely fantastic low-bit soundtrack in a sonic game.
DesoloZ's (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr_Lnh7A-VoNgreOiBuXVOg) channel is half remixes of that stuff, pretty good ones actually. Half of the other half is Kingdom Hearts and MLP, but the other half of that half is different tracks that are also really good. Check him out if you like that stuff. He deserves the attention for that work.

This thread needs some more Guilty Gear (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLkFrE-Sq-0) and BlazBlue (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBgllbPDQX0). Much (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRyR1-wPC84), much (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41KBmM4YSCc) more (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQT4-LRuBE8). Yup (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T01olkfS_yA).
Ok, I'll admit I'm a bit of a fanboy for the music of those games, but I can't help it, really. I'm a sucker for metal (or at least awesome guitar riffs, anyway).
As for other games (that haven't been mentioned), I've always had a soft spot for Halo's music. The quality of the games themselves can be debated, but the soundtrack has always been a high point for me.
I'm also surprised Nintendo games in general haven't been mentioned yet, they've always had consistently high quality music. Wind Waker is one I love a lot, as well as the Metroid Prime series. And Mario Galaxy (1 and 2)... and more Zelda games... and Donkey Kong Country... and Kirby... TOO MANY!

Bastion and Transistor and Blazblue and GG were taken so I'll bring up the Binding of Issac. I'll also bring up Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future and Ollie King which I talk about together because they are all made from the same source genius. Also depending on your throwback potential there is a lot of niceness in the old rhythm games Parappa the Rappa and Um Jammer Lammy.
But I'm not anywhere with a good internet connection so you guys gotta see it for yourself. I'm fond of the title theme and library theme for Issac, everything in Jet Set Ollie Radio King Future is grand to me, between PtR and UJL anything with Master Onion is solid and for Lammy in particular the closer No Cutting Corners is nice to me.

Late to this thread, so for now I will just direct you to The Megas (http://www.themegas.com/albums/), who do music from the Megaman series. They have two vocalists, and while neither is exceptional the way they layer over top one another is pretty good, in my opinion, and the lyrics are entertaining -- at least for video game fans, I suppose.
I heard of them via OC ReMix via "The Quick and the Blue" and "The Annihilation of Monsteropolis" and went seeking out more. I don't know if many people have given them a listen to a similar extent as, say, The Minibosses.

In terms of visual novel games, I advocate Katawa Shoujo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibIrFhrZrpg) for some very nice instrumental music.
Also in the realm of visual novel (although more ero), I also liked some of the various musics of Monster Girl Quest (Including the boss ones of Alice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeuOrr0n9XY) and the 4 Heavenly Knights (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL_JyCGKUPU).)
Another game whose's music I'm fond of is Last Scenario, an RP-Maker crafted game. Sadly no youtube videos for that, so you might have to download the game and either play it yourself (a challenging FF variant) or listen to the files in the music folder.
EDIT: Also +1 to Xenoblade Chronicles music.

When I went to PAX a few years back, I went to a OCReMix panel that had a bunch of the big wigs there and got to talk to them afterwards. Liontamer said he knew who i was due to my blog and told me he was a big fan of mine. I was walking on air for the rest of the con.

Okay, first things first: If you don't have Bound Together already, why don't you have Bound Together already? It's a goddamn classic of remixes from one of my favorite game's delightful soundtracks.
Speaking of delightful soundtracks: Illusion of Gaia. I'm perpetually a little bit heartbroken that on all of OCRemix there're only two mixes from that game, and one is half that and half another game entirely. Actually, Terranigma and Soul Blazer, two related games, also have great music, but Illusion of Gaia is the one dearest to my heart. Seriously, just listen to this theme from Ankor Wat:
57hzpBiBdCE
or this one, from the Egyptian Pyramids:
AywodvTQPuM
or this, from the Sky Garden:
0SSPeNRdXMM
or anything at all from the final battle and ending. Look, just listen to this YouTube playlist and see how you like it. (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB0xooEkKbSZX_T5AChuwdRAYaw_Fjuvm)
edit: Oh, god, this one. This one makes me cry more often than not. It's from the ending.

Basically, if the universe were just, this game would have its own album just as much as any Final Fantasy. I think it's that good.

Ehhh. I was kinda disappointed in illusion of gaia. Mind, it was a decent game by itself. But it still stood in the shadows of its other two brothers in the trilogy-not-trilogy of terranigma and soulblazer. Brings back memories nonetheless!
Now the music I'm very much enjoying is binding of isaac rebirth.
