Remember when the internet never lead to people meeting friends and/or significant others? Also remember when it was more enriching to talk to smelly crazy people on the bus rather than play games on your phone?
People who try to talk to me when my headphones are in and I am on the bus with my nose buried in a book or on my phone can also die.
On that note, the kind of people who complain about smartphones making people anti social sound pretty anti social themselves.
Edit: like why can't you just be comfortable in silence? Are you a babbeh that needs constant attention?

And what about the well-intentioned people that may very well just be concerned about you? Spending all your time not talking to people and some might think that something is bothering you. Do not mistake concern for hostility.
And no, not everyone can sit comfortably in silence. You're not obligated to respond, but it's awfully rude to say, "You're a babbeh if you want human interaction." That's an awful way to dismiss people who may or may not have actual issues with social interaction.

Nah, if you've made it very clear through action or language that you aren't currently interested in conversing with a complete stranger in public and they want to keep pushing it, they are an asshole and a baby that is disrespecting your boundries
and she didn't say 'a babbeh that wants human interaction' she said 'a babbeh that needs constant attention'. Those are, in fact, not the same concepts and treating them as such is disingenuous.
What I'd like explained, in detail, is why said Stranger's desires somehow trump our own? If they don't give a shit enough to respect my desire to be left alone, what force is at work that demands I have to put up with it or *I* am the one that is being rude? Maybe I am already socially interacting with someone using my pocket computer that can literally reach anyone else on the internet or phone service in the entire world, and you are interrupting my text conversations with that person. Why not consider that?

She never said, "keep pushing it". Just people that want to converse on public transport. You'll notice I took the post literally.
and she didn't say 'a babbeh that wants human interaction' she said 'a babbeh that needs constant attention'. Those are, in fact, not the same concepts and treating them as such is disingenuous.
I believe the correct words were, verbatim, "like why can't you just be comfortable in silence? Are you a babbeh that needs constant attention?" Like the most horrible thing in the world is having someone who just wants to have a conversation on public transport. If it bothers you so much, just ignore them rather than complain about it. Getting all huffy and puffy about it is a waste of energy.
What I'd like explained, in detail, is why said Stranger's desires somehow trump our own? If they don't give a shit enough to respect my desire to be left alone, what force is at work that demands I have to put up with it or *I* am the one that is being rude?
I never made that claim and implying that's what I said is disingenuous. Again, if you don't like it? Ignore them, but thinking of them as 'attention seeking babbehs' makes you sound like an asshole.
And stop trying to pick a fight.

If someone has headphones in they don't want to talk. If someone is reading, they probably don't want to talk. Any attempt to converse with someone doing either, much less both of them, is explicitly ignoring pretty obvious and ubiquitous social cues that they don't want to speak to complete strangers right now. Who also have no right to worry about her or my problems.

The whole point of my post was to say, "If you don't like it, ignore it." Meaning if you don't want to talk to them, ignore them. That and making snap judgments about complete strangers is stupid. How is this a bad view to have?
Who also have no right to worry about her or my problems.
Empathy and Sympathy are dead, I guess. Again, the whole point was "just ignore them". Don't want to talk to them? Ignore them.
EDIT: That's all I was saying. I'm bowing out of this thread before it goes any further. Adieu.

If you try talking to a stranger and they don't want to talk to you, for whatever reason, it's not your business. It's not your business to get hung up on the reasons why. It's not your business to keep after them. Maybe they've had a bad day. Maybe their parents just died. Maybe you remind them of a dead cousin. Maybe they like you and are too shy/intimidated to talk. Maybe they hate your guts because they're racist/prejudiced. Maybe they think you look like a pedophile. Maybe they just don't want to talk to you. As I said: Not your business.
Maybe she's listening to an audio-rendition of an LotR fanfic as read by Ian Holm and she just got to the part where Legolas and Liv Tyler's character are about to make-out and you are ruining it by talking.
"Yeah, but..." Not your business.
"but?..." Nope. Not your business. Leave 'em alone.
"Aren't I entitled to?..." Oh, my friend, no you're not *hugs*
It's pretty simple, really. If they want to talk to you about their problems, if they're having any, they will. If they don't, leave them alone. Let it go. Go back to looking up anime videos on youtube, or LPs, or crossword puzzles, or angry NPF posts.
If a random stranger comes up to you and asks you how you're doing and you want to spill your guts, do it, it's your life. I generally talk to random strangers but that's just me...So if you ever see me out somewhere, I'll talk to you! (probably)
Note: if a stranger turns to you and calls you a shit eating turd master for no reason, then you can probably make it your business.

In all seriousness, RMB, you are harshing my good time of hating just, everything. Why? Why do this to me, sweet and lovable Nique?
Also, I think you can assume, or at least it would be polite to give poch & co. the benefit of the doubt, that we all have a basic understanding of social contracts and are probably not going to go balistic on someone who merely attempts to initiate conversation with us. Some people pursue conversation with strangers to an umcomfotable degree and THAT is super inconsiderate and selfish of them and it is pretty clearly what is being referred to.

I hate extroverts whenever they try that thing they sometimes do where they act like everyone they know is an extrovert including you, and fuck you for daring to want to an hour of silence to yourself, you gotta instead be captivated by the morass of ineptitude that is people
I hate serial Facebook users who post every little positive life event on their status updates to collect Likes as if it's their job, then have the audacity to complain at you for making a couple Facebook posts each month that just so happen to highlight controversial current events from an opposing social, political, or religious perspective, because how fucking dare you use Facebook as anything other than a personal artificial ego-inflater over how wonderful you present your life
I also hate said habitual positive-reinforcement Facebook users who post dozens of fake "I'm so happy and my life is so magical" status updates every day then they immediately block you when you make one post in a month that just so happens to be brutally honest about dealing with challenges, failures or thwarted expectations in life, like Jeez, I'm so sorry I tolerated your fake B.S. for years just so you'd send a message of complete lack of empathy the second I posted something genuine and not bullshitty enough for your bullshit cowardly half-assed acquaintanceship, we goddamn live in a world where we can't even confess we're sad lest we shatter the illusion of perpetual contentment
Also, if you are a person who is living with another person, how hard is it to use headphones when listening to loud techno music and/or loud action movies via your laptop in the common area when I'm also present in the space we co-own? I do that whenever I do that kinda shit out of simple respect, sometimes people actually want to enjoy a second's worth of solitude without having their eardrums assaulted when they simply want to live their lives
Fuck Christians who interpret hypocrisy as a part of the goddamn Creed and not the single sin Jesus screamed about most, because God forbid a Christian in America actually attempted to understand the Gospels rather than just adhere to the culturally sanctioned version of events that allows them to feel holier-than-thou and superior over folks, because y'know, that's exactly how Jesus acted [/SAR-FUCKING-CASM]
Fuck that Christian guy who told me all the Crusades (even apparently the ones against Orthodox Christians in Byzantium or Protestant-esque Christian heresies in southern France? Or did he forget about those?) were justified, sanctioned acts permitted by God, and that the world would be so better off if we kept the Crusading going and eliminated Islam off the face of the Earth
Fuck people who refuse to be honest with you when they want to break up with you after several dates. Let me be clear about what I'm not condemning here: I am not condemning a person I like's decision as an autonomous human being not to like me back! That's healthy and normal and people have agency and agency is a great thing for every human being to possess in determining who they like and who they want a relationship with. But if you want to break things off with me, actually break things off with me, after several dates of getting to know my decent character you know I'm not going to flip a gasket with a well-intentioned rejection. But if you do that thing where you claim you're just "Too busy" to date or "Something's come up" and then worse still you get angry at me for not 'reading between the lines' and intuitively understanding that you really wanted to 'let me down easy,' no, fuck that. Express yourself candidly and treat me like a person and give me the opportunity to actually get over the termination of the relationship in an appropriate manner.
(I think it's okay to fade away if it's only been a date or two, but c'mon, you can't simply expect to get away with a fade after three or more dates. And like, if you do try to get away with a fade? The person who subsequently demands some sort of definitive answer isn't a villain for merely expressing a desire for clarity. This is a weird trend with online dating that I just don't get.)
Fuck the one Christian who, after exchanging several pleasant messages, decided to inform me that she thought I was a very nice guy who'd be a perfect man for her to date, except that I believed that global climate change was a real phenomenon and based my career on fighting it, which therefore meant in her estimation that my entire walk with God was a sham and I needed to "recommit to Biblical values" before my soul was taken by the Devil or some shit, because she and apparently every other 'true Christian' out there is in an ideal position to cast the first stone at me for daring to disagree with certain so-called "truths" in Americanized Christendom
SPECIAL ULTRA DOSE OF I HATE I HATE I HATE:
Last week my father barged into my room at 10pm while I was playing Suikoden on my Vita and minding my own business and demanded I watch a video with him. The video involved a young black man beating an older black man senseless and robbing him. The video was disgusting and atrocious but my father clearly had an agenda, and sure enough, my father gleefully proclaimed that the video was of Michael Brown, like this factoid was a point of pride for him, and therefore, in his own words, Michael Brown deserved to die.
Before identifying that the video was fake, I took my father at his word and played along with his assumptions, and argued that it was fucking grotesquely immoral for him to say that a person deserved to be killed by a police officer just because he committed some prior assault or theft, that's seriously ancient barbarism. My father proceeded to scream at me at the top of his lungs about siding with black gangsters against police officers who protect this country or some shit. When I got angry at this and shouted back a defense about giving a damn about actual FACTS as opposed to his bullshit, my father then got livid at me for raising my voice when my mother was sleeping. My sister -- who actually is fairly conservative and likely agreed with the substance of my father's argument more than my own -- of all people was the one who pointed out his hypocrisy but he didn't care.
Turns out after a few seconds of internet searching I discovered that Snopes.com and several other journalistic outlets identified the perpetrator in the video in question as pretty conclusively "not Michael Brown." My father's defense to this was that he didn't believe the journalists and that it still could be Michael Brown, because, y'know, guilty until proven innocent? He still felt no empathy for Brown because, in his own words, "You have to be crazy to confront an armed Cop." I could not reason with him regarding any facts of the case, including conflicting witness testimony as to Brown's actual actions that day, or the fact that he was shot at an obscene amount of times.
When I further pressed my father regarding the case he revealed that he had not, in fact: (A) Read any testimony from the actual grand jury proceedings, (B) Been aware of the other incidents in which police officers had killed African American civilians in cold blood, (C) Been aware that the man who presumably killed two NYPD officers had previously attacked his girlfriend and that his crimes were in all likelihood unrelated to Brown or Garner's deaths, (D) know anything whatsoever about police militarization over the past decade, but (E) he did believe that African American mobs in Ferguson and throughout the United States were beating and even killing police officers indiscriminately in response to an innocent Cop killing Brown in self-defense
...This is what half the fucking country in the United States of America believes, everybody. We're all fucked.

I just wish people knew what extrovert/introvert actually meant instead of grouping everyone that gets uncomfortable around strangers or is quiet as it, then freakin fetishizing the stereotype. Introversion has nothing to do with your fondness or capacity to socialize its whether or not socializing is mentally taxing. You can be a chatty party animal and still be an introvert if said party leaves you so completely drained you need to lock yourself in your room for a few hours. Likewise you can be an isolated loner but still an extrovert if you have to socialize from time to time to keep yourself from crashing into an emotional wreck

My tolerance for bullshit has reached critical mass in the first week of 2015.
A person I once considered a friend since highschool gradually turned to vegan stuff over the years. That's all well and good. Then it progressed to having to bring it up in every conversation and trying to convert the rest of us to it. Irritation intensifies but hold my tongue. Gradually every conversation, exponentially getting fewer over the years, is exclusively about animal rights/abuse/etc.
Catch wind of him forcing a vegan diet on his cat. Recently see a post on facebook a while back of him asking other armchair vegan fucksticks why his cat is throwing up because of the vegan diet and losing weight. Does not consult anyone remotely specialized in animal dietary needs. Does not take cat to vet. Cat up to that point had no noticeable issues with food up until sudden radical switch to vegan diet. This Is My Final Form rage erupts with great fury. Talkin' veins on forehead having veins tier rage. Call him out on that shit hard. Call other numbers pertaining to animal abuse.
He is no longer friend. He no longer has a cat. Cat is in better home now. Expressed extreme disappointment in other friends for enabling that behaviour by not calling him out on it earlier and keeping me in the dark about it.
So what do I hate? Spineless wastes of afterbirth who don't step up and do the right shit when it needs to be done. I hate enablers. I hate cowards. I hate people who push their twisted fucking ideology on that which cannot of its own volition change the circumstances. Most of all? I hate knowing I wasted years associating with all of the above. Not anymore. Fuckers can rot for all I care.
Great, now all riled up. Ain't gonna get any sleep soon.

This and your avatar are a powerful combination.
I'm not a social person, even online, but smartphones and the internet has helped me keep up what few things I might consider social connections to others just barely functional. Most of all my relationship with my boyfriend of four years now, the long tours out on the ocean and societal view of long distance relationships is not kind, but we make it work because we can be in contact any time the data flows.
So I can never accept that technology has made me antisocial, because without it I'd be significantly more of a hermit.

I get customers here and there at work (I work at a grocery store) who ask me what food I'd recommend to give their pets (I sometimes work in a case with a bunch of prepared salads, pasta, meats etc.) And I always respond by telling them where the pet food aisle is (which, btw, stocks some very nice pet food, including fresh pet food) which usually results in them looking miffed. One lady insisted that her dog would not eat pet food, and I was like umm... if your dog won't eat pet food it either means 1. he's sick 2. you need to try a different pet food or 3. he doesn't eat it because you only feed him human food. Which is a terrible idea. Please don't feed your dogs pasta and quinoa and kale salad.
Also, americans who talk shit about socialized health care when I'm right there and I'm like "hey, I had socialized health care for 21 years in Canada" and they're like "yeah but the wait time in hospitals is like 903470 days" and I'm like "no it's just a couple hours and it's free" and they're like "but it costs a bajillion dollars in taxes" and I'm like "no I pay more for healthcare alone in the US than I paid in taxes in Canada" and they're like "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU."
Do your research before you talk shit about social programs!
Also, people who think that health care shouldn't be something that everyone has access to. People who talk about being poor as if it's a choice or a crime or due to laziness and don't admit that they had privileges or help that got them to their currently comfortable financial positions.
Edit: WAIT I have another one. My signature kind of already says it, but slacktivists, specifically the hypocrisy. People deluding themselves into thinking complaining on the internet and posting memes to their friends (that thanks to an insulary internet culture already agrees with you) like its actually making a difference or helping anyone. Because they are not willing to devote the time and energy to make some sacrifices to help others. From the point of view of the poor the middle class is just as decadent, greedy, and out of touch as the rich.
Those in glass houses, if you have the time and income to blow on video games, dinners, vacations, cable, internet access, cell phones and aren't volunteering or donating a chunk of your paycheck to charity you have no room to talk.
Also those people that think because I'm a white heterosexual male, I have it easy or get special advantages. I'm working minimum wage for five hours a week, I have 30k in student loans, and guess what being a white heterosexual male disqualifies you from alot of government assistance and scholarships and grants. Growing up I was one of those families that got food donations. I grew up, taking ketchup packets home so I had something to snack on. So I wish people would stop acting like I dont know hardship or in any conceivable way have it easy.
The only reason I'm still alive is because my family takes pity on me and lets me leech off them which I assure you doesn't do much for your sense of self worth.

Your grandfather was anti social.
Mine totally was, actually! Come to think of it, he sort of prided himself on the fact. When he first got his job as a professor at the local community college, he insisted on his own office instead of having a desk in a shared area with all the other staff. According to him, most of what they talked about concerned the bed-hopping escapades of bored couples and other Shit He Gave No Fucks About.
One of the stories he told me, before the Alzheimer's ate his brain, was about a couple of students taking to each other on their way out of the classroom who didn't realize he was behind them. One of them said something like "Wow, man, that Mister [Onion], what a bastard!" The other said "yeah, but he's a fair bastard." He called that the nicest professional compliment he'd ever been paid.

People who eschew traditional medicine and tell people with mental illnesses they just need to exercise more and eat fermented foods and have more willpower and that SSRIs will turn them into soulless zombies, haha fuck you a million times for making anyone feeling bad for needing fuckin' medicine.
To be fair, you are taking about the US government. It's not exactly the honest of govs. So people do have a reason to be concerned to ensure it stays that way.
Since for a number of areas, including NJ. Taxes are through the roof and still rising.

Yeah, but not further socializing the US's healthcare system is more expensive for taxpayers in the long run. Though, I'm talking about taxes in general, I understand they may be too high in certain areas- in which case the solution probably is something other than not spending tax dollars on something as necessary as health care. See this. (http://www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_12523427) NOTE: That article is from 2009, before Obamacare was enacted, so hopefully that's mitigating some of the negative effects of the current american health care system.
Myth: The Canadian system is significantly more expensive than that of the U.S.
Ten percent of Canada's GDP is spent on health care for 100 percent of the population. The U.S. spends 17 percent of its GDP but 15 percent of its population has no coverage whatsoever and millions of others have inadequate coverage. In essence, the U.S. system is considerably more expensive than Canada's. Part of the reason for this is uninsured and underinsured people in the U.S. still get sick and eventually seek care. People who cannot afford care wait until advanced stages of an illness to see a doctor and then do so through emergency rooms, which cost considerably more than primary care services.
What the American taxpayer may not realize is that such care costs about $45 billion per year, and someone has to pay it. This is why insurance premiums increase every year for insured patients while co-pays and deductibles also rise rapidly.
Myth: Taxes in Canada are extremely high, mostly because of national health care.
In actuality, taxes are nearly equal on both sides of the border. Overall, Canada's taxes are slightly higher than those in the U.S. However, Canadians are afforded many benefits for their tax dollars, even beyond health care (e.g., tax credits, family allowance, cheaper higher education), so the end result is a wash. At the end of the day, the average after-tax income of Canadian workers is equal to about 82 percent of their gross pay. In the U.S., that average is 81.9 percent.
Another reason I believe health care stuff is more expensive in the US is we just get charged more for the same shit, which goes all the way up to medical companies overcharging for shit.
