Ok now, I've always been the one in my family with good eye-sight so I haven't gotten an eye exam in almost a decade. Noticing my vision not being what it used to be I did and was told my one eye had astigmatism. Glasses came in and.... nothing. There is barely any difference between having them on and off so why am I even bothering with these things?

Tell this to your eye doctor. It could be that you need a stronger prescription, or that the technicians put the wrong prescription into your frames.

I did mention it to the assistant and they were very dismissive of me

Well, I got a slight astigmatism in my right eye, and while I didn't notice it at first, there was a notable difference after I got used to wearing glasses for a bit. May just not be used to them yet.

Hey, if only one eye is bad, then you'd have a valid excuse for wearing a monocle, right?

I always wondered how people kept those things on their faces.

You hold it in your ocular cavity. It is somewhat unpleasant. Also if the assistant is dismissive then just get a real optometrist hear you.

If you were getting along fine without them then I don't see why you would wear them. Probably they just wanted to sell you glasses even though your astigmatism was so minor it doesn't affect your vision in your daily life.

Does it say on your license that you have to wear glasses? If so, keep them in your car and wear them when you drive in case you are pulled over.
