Trading card enthusiasts? Show 'em off. Are you just a collector or do you play? And how, how do you keep your toploaders safe?

For me, I collect playing cards so TCGs had always held an allure, but I figured that was a rabbit hole best not jumped into if I could avoid it. I could talk myself out of pokemon cards because there's a billion of them, and I talked myself out of both Love Live TCGs because they're starting to move over to the new group I don't care for as much. I was fairly confident I could avoid falling into that trap forever.

And Japan took note (http://gekkan-bushi.com/mimorin-tc/).

I swear, they were announced just a couple of days after I'd made the conscious decision not to get into TCG. It was targeted. They took Mimori and they put her on cards just to spite me.

I bought the binder. I bought the DVD. I bought the box set with the promo card. I bought three magazines I can't read for their promo cards (and photo shoot).

Th- that's normal, right?

So while I eagerly await 104 pictures of a pretty lady, tell me about your collection. Show me your binders. Have you ever actually traded a trading card? And seriously, what to do with toploaders? The choice is binder or toploader but where does the toploader go???

I've been playing Magic for about 4 years now. I currently have 3 standard decks, a modern deck, a pauper deck, a highlander deck, a sergeant deck, a full planechase set and 7 edh decks. I have 2 folders for my rares (1 standard, 1 non-standard) and a box full of junk rares. I have about 6 more boxes of various sizes for the rest of my commons and uncommons, including 1 extremely full shoebox that must have at least a thousand cards in it.

I play at FNM events at my local shop every week, and often have more events on the weekends as well. I've top 8'ed a PPTQ once, and usually do pretty well in most tournaments, though I've never done a gp. Needless to say, I'm pretty well invested in the game and have spent literally thousands on cards.

My collection is pretty massive; if you really want I'll take some photos and upload them later. As for keeping them safe; anything of value that I'm not currently using in a deck is kept in a binder, anything that's in a deck is sleeved and kept in a proper deck box. Easy.

Back in elementary school some kid gave me one of his MTG cards. It had a fairy on it. I still have it somewhere, though I can't remember who gave it to me. That is the extent of my card collection.

I don't play any TCG's, partly because they're not my thing and partly because I'm an impulse buyer so if ever I find one that IS my thing I know I'll binge-buy a crapton of cards I'll likely never use. I mean, I only play D&D online with a dice roller anymore yet I still own at least three sets of polyhedral dice, one set of Edge of the Empire dice from the EotE box set I haven't played yet, a ton of d6's from the Shadowrun box set I haven't played yet, and a fancy dice bag.

I know myself too well to risk delving into that dangerous world of collecting cards.

Yeah... I have a lot of shit.Oh Hawk, you sweet summer child....

I've been mainlining Magic since '94 and have hoarded quite the collection over the years. I think I'll take some pictures post them up later.

As for other TCGs, I've dabbled in Star Wars, Pokemon, Battletech, C23 (and the Xena spin-off), Highlander (of movie and TV show fame), another space-themed game whose name I won't remember unless I find my old deck for it, and a few others that have been lost to time.

You monster, why aren't those duals sleeved?!

The ones in decks are. Those came out of a binder so they'll go back to being decently protected when I put them away. Honestly though, there's not much you can do to an SP/MP condition dual to hurt its value short of setting it on fire. My wife cracked a pack-fresh dual from a Revised pack over Christmas. That one went straight into two sleeves and a toploader.

Currently I mainly play the Yugioh TCG (yes I play Duel Links too) and Card Fight Vanguard. Though I've recently got back into Magic The Gathering. And Pokemon TCG which I play casually online.

I also use to and plan on getting back into Hearth Stone soon.

My Pokemon collection is mostly old cards since I main play online, same goes for magic though I'm starting to buy into the current set rotation for Standard (though not jumping into the meta yet). I however have thousands upon thousands of Yugioh cards both old and new since it's the main TCG I play and Vanguard is gradually coming into second place for most cards I own.

Yeah... I have a lot of shit.

Oh man, I don't know a single thing about Magic but I could spend hours going through that shoebox alone.

As for other TCGs, I've dabbled in Star Wars, Pokemon, Battletech, C23 (and the Xena spin-off), Highlander (of movie and TV show fame), another space-themed game whose name I won't remember unless I find my old deck for it, and a few others that have been lost to time.

@ you both- you're both avid players, but are you collectors too? Would you seek out a card you don't have even if it wasn't worth putting in a deck?

Card Fight Vanguard

Oh man, hahaha, I only know about Vanguard because Mimori voices one of its characters... and starred in the musical version of it (a musical about a card game being one of the weirder things I've experienced). I have two Vanguard cards!!! They came as promos with a magazine I bought and I have no idea at all what they are.

I'm a collector with a lowercase "c." I do go out of my way to pick up at least four copies (or eight if they're amazing) of every common and uncommon in every set. I generally acquire a decent stable of rares and mythics through drafts, prize packs, the occasional booster box, etc., though I don't go out of my way to waste my time on rares whose prices fluctuate so much unless I really need them for certain decks.

I used to be a bit more voracious in my collecting, but in the last couple years I decided that I had hundreds of thousands of cards I really didn't need, so I've been cutting back and giving away piles of what's left of the commons and uncommons to my friends after I've sorted out a few play sets.

I do collect sealed product though. I've got boxes and boxes of unopened booster packs stretching all the way back to the early days of Magic. Mostly they stay unopened because the packs are technically worth more on average sealed than the cards that are potentially in them. Some of them I've got earmarked for fun retro drafts some day when I get enough corresponding packs to make it happen (I'm so close to an Ice Ages/Coldsnap/Alliances draft...). Most of the packs are either unopened prize packs or older product that I've picked up from store credit after winning a local event.

Generally speaking I either buy singles (often playsets of 4) of stuff that I'm actually going to use in a deck, unless it's specifically for an edh deck that only requires 1 copy. I tend to only trade with others when they have something I have been unable to purchase online, or if they really want something of mine and I know I either have spares or I'm not likely to use that card any time soon.

Everything else either tends to build up as part of my collection which I'm happy to keep and would prefer not to trade, as I do enjoy just having lots of rare/mythic cards, even if most don't get used, or at least, don't get used anymore. I'm particularly stingy when it comes to trading away things like lands, especially my fetches, as I know they're always going to have value to me, either price wise or for use in deckbuilding.

On saying that though, I have on occasion just bought something because I wanted it, with no intention of using it in a deck, most notably with my copy of
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii87/Hawk_of_Battle/Progenitus.jpg, because why wouldn't I want this?
