I kind of hate it because fuck discord and also I miss forums, but there we go. The internet has moved on to a more immediate and therefore less versatile means of communication, and NPF has moved with it.

Eh, these things happen. I am a little sad that I can't just stumble into an interesting conversation or some strange, spur of the moment forum game anymore, and that mostly these days I'm just stopping by to make sure that a whole swath of my digital life that I'm not....unproud(?) of hasn't been lost to the void.

Even on an active forum I could have come back to this thread after 2 months and continued this conversation. I don't know if I'd even be able to find something said two months ago on discord, much less have several topics of discussion available at once as is possible with mutliple threads. With Discord, you're either there immediately and constantly, or you by necessity miss something. Have something worthwhile you could have contributed to an earlier conversation? Too bad, the channel's moved on.

Discord is frustrating, as instead of there being, like, one chat channel aside this asynchronous forum there're channels for every forum category (or similar) that all update in real-time. It feels rather difficult to keep up, when you aren't logged in and reading regularly, much more than even the web-based chat or IRC ever was. And since Discord is typically something I use primarily as a voice chat tool than as a community tool, NPFU and other communities' chats are something I may check once a week, at most.

Of course, I recognize that some of that is a side effect of, like, largely departing online communities on my end. For example, I apparently decided to leave all of my Steam groups at some point, not that I've ever been the best conversationalist there.
