For those who didn't know, The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall has been released as freeware.

I don't know if you can have a dead sticky thread, but I'll take the risk.

Dink Smallwood is an old style RPG over a decade old but still pretty fun. It's compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac.

It's high points are its "bizarre" humor, classic feel and utter shitload of player-made add-ons (or D-mods) for you to try.

Just be careful about dealing with those guys on the forum, it's a dying community that pushes out the occasional mediocre D-mod and barely keeps up with compatibility. The site admins and driving force have been long gone and most of them are stuck in the past. I went ahead and left them after seeing that they weren't gonna make progress (no active site admin is a huge wtf).

So yeah add it to the list.

Never fear, I'm still updating this thing. The new list is on Page 7 btw, I ran out of space on the first page. Should have taken that second post :(

I forgot this thread existed.

Spelunky. An addictive platformer game where you, the Indiana Jones expy, explore a cave for fun and profit while trying to avoid the many, many things that can (and will) kill you. Along the way you'll pilfer valuable golden idols, rescue damsels for a hero's reward, and barter with trigger-happy shopkeepers for items that will make your quest easier more survivable. Part of what makes the game so addicting is that the cave is algorithmically generated each time you go through. Also, despite its punishing difficulty it very rarely proves frustrating. You'll get killed in situations like thesehttp://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2995/spelunkypz5.gif and all you can do in response is laugh and give it another shot.

There's a Youtube LP to be found here, but much of the fun in the game is in the exploration, so these videos may spoil the surprises.

Hey, the guys who did Wesnoth are doing a side-scrolling platformer now. It's called Frogatto and it's really a lot of fun so far. The gameplay feel solid and it's got a pretty relaxed difficulty level. Here's a review.

That's a pretty cool game actually.

I recently discovered Exit Fate, a very nice free rpg with some strategy gameplay and plenty of party options as you go along. Also the formation and magic systems are nice.

Unmanned

Quote:

I believe we are witnessing a two-fold process that consists, on one hand, in the separation of civilians and soldiers from the reality and the consequences of the war through technology and secrecy such as the myriad of undercover drone operations around the world. And, on the other hand, in the pervasion of stylized, sanitized or redacted depictions of war in news and entertainment. I’m sure older gamers are aware that the real war doesn’t look like Modern Warfare, but I fear that the proliferation of these cool, sexy representations has a overall soothing effect. This reinforces the doctrine of the endless global war, it turns what is supposed to be an exception, the last resort in conflict resolution, into something normal, a little thought in the back of our minds, a low intensity buzz that accompanies our everyday life.

I recently came across this.

Quite the resource for the bored of the board.
