Insomnia is an ailment, ailments are best treated at their sources rather than intercepted later-- at least that's ideal.
What do I notice causing insomnia in myself? Usually an imbalance of introverted/extroverted mindstate... sometimes I am around people all day every day and then later escape into introversion when I come home, and since I regenerate in that state I feel that staying awake is better than sleeping.
Another side is having too much introversion which gets you locked into staying awake, like a zombie.
What's the best cure? Harmonize your personal social dynamic, find a GF you really gel with, hang out with healthy friends for a responsible amount of time, go out and get tired, do stuff, don't get bored. Get tired, satisfied about your day and look forward to the next.
