No. Put the game in the foreground through interesting additional information and your own thoughts, don't try to put yourself over with funny voices and sound effects. Ask yourself: what can your inner monologue add to the esperience of watching the game footage?

Also, absolutely prerecord the footage and do a voiceover afterwards, especially if you're doing a blind run. For that matter you might also want to edit out all the parts where you walk around aimlessly not knowing how to proceed, because that's practically guaranteed to happen at some point unless you know a game very well. Obviously leave in everything that results in a spectacular fuck-up and becomes entertaining.

Prerecord and do footage afterwards: it just works out better.

For starters, if shit goes wrong, you can do a retake without having to remember what you were going to say, and talking while playing makes your gameplay suck.

Evidence:

From now on, the KH2 LP is going to be pre-recorded then voiced, because last take (not The Bouncer interlude) went to hell in hand basket. Morgan was too tired to talk straight, I brought up Kimba the white lion (Kimba, the white lion. He's the bravest little guy in the land) and then when we were listening to the finished video we discovered that for some reason Kingdom Hearts 2 was recording at full volume, drowning out bloody everything.

It was impossible to know there was something wrong until the video had gone to print and was reviewed, so having recorded the actual gameplay first and then done the simple task of recording your own voice over it makes it easier to not only correct/adjust any problems but also to plan out your words.

Anyway, which Deus Ex? The new one, or the old one? Invisible War is a standalone game that shall not be spoken of, as it's only canon ending is Alex Denton murdering everyone and then snapping the game disc in half.

If you're gonna do the first one, use the Shifter Mod, which among other things:

Better aug's
More weapon utility (alt fire)
Random drops: Enemies may carry surprises!
Useless Melee Weapons (Stack, and are now throwable!)

Furthermore:
Unrealistic Mode (hard as hell...but...)

Ok I will try pre-recording it first. Though from experience that wont help the volume issue I'm afraid. Gonna see if I can fix it before I bother

the newest one, though from what I know of the first it probably would have made for a more interesting LP.

Also, guys, what kind of run do you think would be best? Or should I just go with my natural playstyle

Marc v4.0 09-17-2011 11:15 PM

the best playstyle is the one you naturally fall into, you can't really go wrong

Kill everything, use only heavy thrown objects.

Adam 'Murder McVendingMachine' Jensen.

to check, do you mean, this or something more like this? *So glad I found one of him actually using a vending machine for murder

cause I am under the impression both are possible in this game

Krylo 09-18-2011 03:08 AM

More the latter.

Yes it will, you can change game volume to put it on one level with your commentary. Then amp it up again to a reasonable degree that doesn't sound fuzzy.

Just for the love of EVERYTHING ever. Don't be one of those shitty LPers who make the game volume nearly inaudible. I hate that and it will make me punch you.

And don't use noise removal if you don't know how, just don't, it sounds like you're speaking through an iron pipe, like all the voice actors in Baten Kaitos. Does anyone even remember that game? Anyway, most of the time audio quality can be greatly improved by deactivating noise removal. No one minds hearing your cat in the background. Just don't have an overly squeaky chair, okay?

what I will try to do, I just recall back when I first tried recording things I cranked the volume settings to their max and it was still quiet. Somehow it got better, though it was still on the quiet side.

Might be because I'm stuck with XP version of windows movie maker, I dont have alot of options

PyrosNine 09-18-2011 08:06 PM

Use VirtualDub, it's not exactly user friendly but it has lots of options, including audio and whatnot.
