No. They can't be played at all.

Yeah. There's stuff required by the 3DS games that the DS simply cannot do. In fct, I'm pretty sure the shape of 3DS cards is such that you can't even plug one into a DS. However, regular DS games can be played without issue on a 3DS.

Guess this means I'll finally have to upgrade to a 3DS now. Granted, my old DS-lite is still chugging along...

That makes me sad. I hate the 3D look of 3DS games. Especially since it goes all blurry if I so much as shift my viewing angle more than an inch or so.
